  • Approaching the system of a K-Class star.
    The new Orrery Map is now centred on the player ship instead of the system's central star, which allows for much smoother movement and greater zoom levels. It is also now fully 3D, so you can easily see the inclination of any star system to the galactic plane.

    Very cool! Thanks for the update videos, they’re fun to watch! Any plans for making the bridge more visually dynamic? Star Trek bridges seem to always have a small blinking light or moving graphic that always made the ship feel…alive. It never felt like a set people were acting on but a real command centre for a complex vessel. Looping infographics and sounds would make for some cool yet subtle ambience! (lol which would later just end up as a 10 hours of Starship Simulator bridge ambience to sleep/study/relax to video)

      Yeah for sure, the Bridge is only about 50% done at this point. There will be numerous UI screens that show graphics and make noises, but none of it will be there for the sake of it. Every graphic and every button will have an actual purpose on the ship :)

    Beautiful. How much does the size of the universe affect the overall performance of the game?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The galaxy generation system has been carefully optimised so that it only loads the data you need in the moment. For example, planetary textures are only generated when you are close enough to see more than a distant dot in space. The area where stars are generated is 8 Quadrillion cubic lightyears, but because of the procedural nature of the system it only ever generates what's near you. Size wise, the game and entire galaxy currently weigh in at less than 2.3GB. This particular video was also recorded on a 1050Ti for comparison.

      @@StarshipSimulator That's great. I always like when the game is well optimized and I have a stable FPS. It makes the game more immersive.

    Will the ship take damage from being so close to the star?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It will eventually, depending on shield and hull plating strength. That's not implemented yet though.

    Do you have any plans on bringing this to Mac, specifically the apple silicon M1 or M2? I'd love to be able to play this, looks absolutely amazing!

      Hi Ben, unfortunately, not at this time. If we are ever able to hire a dedicated Mac developer, then we absolutely would :)

      @@StarshipSimulator that's disappointing but completely understandable given how niche gaming on the Mac is. I'll be keeping an eye on the project tho as it looks really good. Absolutely loving the attention to detail with the ships systems and planetary generation!

    Is there a way for us to view a roadmap?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We haven't got an up-to-date roadmap online, but if you join the Discord there's almost daily updates. Ultimately right now we're working hard to get a public tech demo finished and polished (~2 months ish), and then after that we'll switch gear into getting the full game done. Optimistically we're hoping to hit Early Access for the full game this year.

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right now the planets are only viewable from orbit, but we do have planetary landings on the roadmap for the future.

    For me, it doesn't make sense that you arrive nose-up-against-the glass at the star of any star system... what makes more sense is that 'when you arrive at the outer heliosphere i.e. beyond the farthest planet, you then get the UI to show you targets within your star system.
    Or (if you've already chosen a destination, it goes right there...
    PS: orrery-wise... make it so that it's USER-RELATIVE from the rear-most navigation seat... then you can reach out in first-person and move the orrery around with your HANDS (even tho it's in the middle of the room). :)

    Very cool game i can't wait to be released i saw the minimum requirements but it will work on my rx 550 4gb and i5 3th gen 8 gb ram ?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 4GB GTX 960 running on an older i5 is getting around 30fps in testing, so there's a good chance you'll be able to run the game. With upscaling you might get around 40-50fps. Either way the base sandbox will be free, so it won't cost anything to find out :)

      @@ainsleyfrastructurekpopmashups Hi :) Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you if it would definitely run the game but we have a demo coming out on Steam on Oct 3rd. Give it a try and let us know :) No, you wouldn't be able to run custom music on the bridge, sorry.
