  • Exploring An Abandoned Catholic Church
    This church has closed its doors, apparently forever, as a worship space for Catholics. The church, which opened in 1923, held its final Mass in 2020.
    The reason for its closure was because it had joined and merged with another parish due to declining attendance and a decline in funding.
    As it sits decaying, the beauty and detail still remain.

    So glad to see that you did not disturb or desecrate holy things on your exploration. Thank you for that.

      Hi John, I try not to touch or move too much around when I’m exploring a location. I go in explore, take picture/video and get out.

    Surprising that they left some of the holy vessels there such as the ciborium and chalice. Usually those would have been taken and not just left. At the very least they could've been given to another parish to use.
    Edit--just to add, and as speculation: aside from the holy vessels, some of the vestments have also been left, which is strange. Usually these would have been taken as well. Based on the video, I would think that the church was closed not because of declining attendance, or else many of those mentioned would have been taken and not left there, but that most likely the Eucharist has been desecrated, which forced the diocese to close the church. That is just my speculation based on the video since it's still odd the holy vessels and vestments have been left there. No priest would have these things just be left, and would have been transferred to another parish.

      I did some research and I found online that this parish closed and joined another parish down the street. They sited financial reasons and low attendance. There maybe other reasons but that was all I was able to find.

    What about the Holy relics of saints that are in the altars? I hope the chancery office is aware of this church. Reminds me of the demise of the former ST. ALPHONSUS COLLEGE in Suffield CT...a beautiful seminary on a hill.

    the Wooden Plaques next to the windows are called The Station of The Cross. And the little doors that are on the sacristy and Alter are called the Tabernacle, The cups are Chalice's and the bowls are Ciborium, Ciboria, or Ciboriums...LOL Im very surprised those were left behind due to their significance.

    • @KingOfExploring
      @KingOfExploring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for that information! I knew that the Ciborium were of significance. Even if this congregation merged with another...why would they leave so much behind?

      @@KingOfExploring The incense burner and all the stations are supposed to be removed.. That's crazy unless they are still using it for storage. I'm not religious by any means but you know some kid is going to steal all of that stuff. I just don't get it..
      Oh and I hope you don't mind but I did post it on my fb personal page.. this was well worth the share!!! I love he fact you talk to the audience and interact with them. Great Urbex man!!

    Coptic Orthodox Church would love this venerable church. They are growing numerically. In Manhatten the Coptics now have a beautiful old RC church.

    There was one in our town that was dated 1886. They tore it down and put up apartments, such a waste. It had wood carving and eight two story stained glass windows , all wasted.

    I really hope that this church would be restored and maybe the city could have the church considered historic. That way, the building would be protected.

    • @KingOfExploring
      @KingOfExploring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve heard two different rumors. The first was that the city pulled a permit or something deeming the building “unsafe”. Then I heard that this congregation merged with another due to lack of funding and declining attendance.

    Closed and locked does not necessarily mean abandoned. If the owner of this property has a legal deed to the property and maintains it, the fact that it is not used as a church where services are no longer held does not make it "abandoned". Disused might be a better word.

      It's in the description--the church was first used in 1923 and was used until 2020. Most likely part of the reason it closed was because of the pandemic.
