Wow! Keeper of Firearms for the Royal Armouries here - this is superb work across the board. Accurate, detailed, and beautifully presented. A big help as I am learning the Mk.II gun at the moment and without this video I'd be bugging my friends at Duxford for copies of the APs :)

Hi. I am a Korean and a fan of British airplanes during WW2. Your videos are really helping me to understand Spitfire deeply. Thank you so much and hope you go on your fantastic work. ;)

Who would believe that so many people are responsible for the guns working properly on a Spitfire! It's just not only the pilot pressing a button, but a huge chain of actions that made possible (or sometimes impossible...) for those birds to shoot! I imagine how reloading should work... Magnificent video, Brian!

One of my aims is to try to illustrate the work involved in keeping these great aircraft operational. Thanks for watching Jose.

Love the work you have accomplished. But...how many seconds of firing before all the ammunition is exhausted? Is there any model that allowed less than all guns firing? What was the average amount of ammunition used on a sortie? (I understand that is a loaded question, but is there even a number associated with that question?)
I hope you are thinking of doing some pre WW II silver wing fleet aeroplanes.

Thanks for your feedback. My growing series of videos is designed to offer various sections of the wartime AP Manuals in video format. As such, I am covering ground crew and aircrew instructions as they were offered at the time (1942). The rate of fire for the Browning was 1,150 rounds per minute. The pilot couldn't select how many Brownings to fire. It was all or nothing. The Spitfire Vb and Vc variants had a dual action firing button, where the pilot could fire either the Hispano cannon or Browing - or both. I will be covering the Hispano in my next video. I have no idea of the average usage of ammunition at the time. Thanks again for your questions and please keep watching!

@@ukaircraftexplored6556As already mentioned your work is fantastic. An excellent method of informing the public as well as aficionados of the Spit. I am well versed on the A.P. manuals and that in itself is a complex and little documented subject. Ex: when did pilot notes first start, (none for the Bristol F2b or Bulldog), the amount of information shown between the afore mentioned Bristols is night and day. And nowhere have I found "engineers" (mechanics to the Yanks) notes on how to repair anything. Pretty much "here's the new part, there's the old part, fix it" . The Spitfire and Hurricane have "Pilot's notes", but I have not found engineering notes. Never the less...keep up your great work and referencing. Cheers.

@@ukaircraftexplored6556 I forgot to add...for those of you counting etc. the armament would shoot for approximently 18 seconds.

how did the system get rid of duded rounds that were jammed in the gun?

But after around 20seconds the pilot has shot his bolt. Sounds like you would need to be close to make it count.
