First Day of Camino de Santiago | No idea what I’m doing

- This video is about my first day of Camino de Santiago. I’m not sure why but I felt very anxious and nervous initially. I really had no idea what I was doing. I started walking from Porto, Portugal, and going to Santiago de Compastela, in northwest Spain. The route I’m doing is Coastal Portuguese Camino de Santiago. The whole route is about 300 kilometers (186 miles) and this is my very first long hike. Wish me luck!

How the Camino serves is crazy.. the moment you get so anxious and feel lost you find plums from home and directly feel home again! Coincidentally? I don’t think so ❤

This is very interesting, most people go from France to Spain, so it is fun to see a different way.
More and more routes to Santiago are becoming popular now. There’s like at least 10 places you can start walking from.

I did the Caminio across from France in 2015. It was the best but hard. I have short legs so it took me 56 days to do 800 km. But the comradeship and help I received along the way was magical. Try not to make mistakes, but they will come. Take them as part of the adventure, it is part of living. Most important get back in touch with your senses.

Honestly, I don't know what to say. I just thought you would travel some peaceful cities as you did in Mexico. It's way beyond my imagination. Why you are starting this reckless journey? That was my first thought out of concern for you. But, there must be some reason why you have to do this. And, I really hope you can find answers or something you are longing for. Take really really good care of yourself. Tighten the bag around your waist and chest. Take good rest if you feel any physical pain on your body. GOOD LUCK!!!

1. Are you using a selfie-stick? If so, can you tell me which one or what features to look for?
2. How did you get those wonderful shots of you walking from the side and the back view? I really want to be able to do that, too.

Loved your first day. This will be my camino in late August and I'm feeling excited but know I will also be anxious when the day finally comes. Did you train leading up to your camino by long walks at home?
Carol, good luck with your Camino! Yes I absolutely did, I jogged and walked a lot, still got some blisters on my feet, I’d recommend bringing some blister medicine (vaseline for example).

Hi David! My bag was probably 8 kilos minus food and water. I recommend to go as light and humanly possible. Only pack essentials, some blister bandaids and sunscreen

So in Portugal no, I didn’t need sleeping a bag but in Spain there are few government owned public Albergues, it’s super cheap (€6/8) but they don’t provide blankets. If you want to stay there, you’ll need a sleeping bag.

Is camino easy or difficuly? is it safe or not? How much money you need? Is there a fixed path, do you have to reach hostel before dark?
