Once you get the feel and can throw those properly then move up to your fairway and control drivers stay away from the 11-15 speed range you will throw a putter further then those. So pumped for the number of potential new players that will come from Brodie getting hardcore into the best game that nobody knows about!! Making me practice even harder for the upcoming season! Keep at it dude can't wait to see your progress.
One thing that was touched on a little (talked about them being new), yet it is great to mention is that as you break these discs in the characteristics will change. That is why people will put 3 of the same discs at different stages of ware. As you play what you start with you will "grow out of" certain discs or use them for different things. Great Video! Would be nice to see one in a field with a follow flight.... well in the spring.
I am so impressed so far with most of the videos, the instagrams and all the hype that disc golf is getting. Brodie, you are very active in sports, you will bring a lot of followers to disc golf and it will become more recognized because of that. Thank you for that. Also, you are very fortunate to be able to play and learn from some of the best in the sport and you are teamed up with, at least in my opinion, the most versatile, humble and all around best player in the world, Paul McBeth.
When I saw the video of you throwing a round with Paul and Simon...Dude I have to admit that I thought you'd never figure out what you're doing. But now seeing this and following the results on your Instagram page - wow! Keep it up and thanks to you and Pablo for explaining why/what/when certain disc does what it does! Good luck for the season 👍🏼
As a player myself, I'm loving the insight and how informal the video is. Also the story we're getting from someone starting their (hopefully long, healthy, and professional) career in the game is cool to see. Great questions and answers and direction. This is excellent content for beginners and good information for any players. I appreciate this. Thank you and y’all have me PUMPED for this upcoming season!
This video was helpful. Thanks Paul and Brodie. Though I’m not sure everyone should try the force because it’s pretty overstable. But I am looking forward to the midrange one and putter.
Yea the force is a great disc for those that know how to throw already. We def suggest learning how to throw a putter first. My starter pack is a magnet, buzz, and heat
@@BrodieSmith Fantastic picks for your starter pack! I started with the same but in x plastic; having the buzzz and heat in a premium plastic was a smart idea. Definitely my recommended starter set for newbies.
Is it safe to say Discraft won the off-season? PP and Brodie are 2 stellar additions to the team but these vids with Paul are so top notch. I love where all of this is headed. Best of luck Brodie. Excited to see the next video drop.
For anybody new to disc golf, the reason understable discs are easier to throw is because to get any disc to turn right (right hand back hand like Brodie was throwing) you have to throw a certain velocity. So the understable discs want to turn right already. Discs that already want to turn right don’t have to be thrown as hard to go straight. That’s why you’ll get more distance at first with those. You’ll notice that some of the overstable discs were actually too fast for Brodie’s form still. If you throw something too fast or too overstable it will dump hard left without much distance. But this was a great video Brodie, keep it up and I’m rooting for you!
PSA The Force = Advanced Disc Golf If you’re just starting out, keep your disc speeds between 5 and 9. Choose a putter that feels good in your hands, and learn how to throw that along with a Buzzz first. If you can toss those 150-250’ you’ll be able to sling Fairways out to 300-350’ and distance drivers even further than that. TH-cam has all the tutorials you need to progress in this sport, and if possible you should record your throw. (It’s the best way to figure out what you’re doing wrong/right) The Force will always be there waiting for you, and if you hold off on trying to throw it right away, you’ll be crushing with it later on. Also just want to say I’m loving this content. Keep it up!!
Fantastic guys. Really enjoy these videos. I live in South Africa and have been playing for about six months. It is unfortunately incredibly expensive to ship discs to South Africa and we can only salivate at all the lovely discs you demonstrate. Ewnjoyig every moment of disc golf. A fantastic sport
I love Brodie, he's like, " That was good, right dad?" 😂😂😂😂 Jk Paul is everyone's disc golf dad. These videos are awesome and I cannot wait to support Brodie on the tour. I'm waiting for Brodie's own disc, I'm thinking of a discraft version of a Condor.
It would be awesome to see some of your tournament play progression. Like showing us not only some shots of you playing, but also getting some insight as to how you are mentally/physically dealing with tournaments. A lot of new players/tournament participants would benefit from hearing someone new to the world describe their competitive experiences.
Got some beastly throws going. One of the things I've been picking up with driver profiles is what profiles can tell you the actual stability of a disc. One factor, especially for high speed discs. Is the bevel on the rim. If the bevel is concave, it can usually attribute to stability. Convex can usually attribute to understability. Although, the Thrasher usually blurs the lines on this. The Nuke is a bit more outward on. I have an ESP nuke that has a fairly convex bevel, and I can pop it flat. Flex it. Or hyzer it. I have heard from many, as well as witnessed that ESP plastic tends to lean towards understability due to it's softness, as well as it's sensitivity to temperature.
Thought I would give a little more detail of what they are talking about for anyone interested. Hyzer and Anhyzer are general terms that explain how a disc is going to fly depending on how it is thrown. Hyzer is the direction the disc will naturally turn as it slows down, Anhyzer is the opposite direction. For a Right Handed back hand throw and Left handed forehand throw, hyzer is going to be the disc turning to the left with anhyzer to the right. For a Left handed back hand and Right handed forehand throw, hyzer is the disc turning to the right with anhyzer to the left. Stability- Overstable, the disc is going to want to hyzer sooner and harder than usual. Stable, the disc is going to fly pretty much straight from start to finish. Understable, the disc is going to "flip over" and turn anhyzer.
The combination of disc selection and release angle is the magic of the game. Three dimensional fairways challenge you to not only select the right disc, but to throw it at the right speed and angle to navigate them. On top of that, there's not always a truly correct choice, as many holes offer multiple lines to attack the basket, each with their own risk and reward. IMO a player can cover every combo of stability and release angle with 12 discs. Starting out though, a player should have 3: an understable fairway driver, stable/understable mid, and a stable putter, and should try to restrain from buying more until they can throw a roller with that fairway driver on a flat release. Once they can do that, the whole world of shot shaping opens for them and each disc becomes a tool rather than a solution to a problem. Your starter set linked in the description does exactly that with the Heat, Buzzz, and Magnet. It's great to see you and Paul working through disc selection in an approachable way!
It's pretty awesome to see you getting into DG! Never followed you before but I'm super stoked to see your progression given your background in ultimate. It didn't quite seem like you knew what you were doing. By that I mean you crush a fairway that would have probably gone 400+ like Paul was saying, but you weren't very impressed by that. 400ft is a HUGE marker for players. Let alone to be doing it with a fairway. Keep it up brotha!
The majority of people who play Frisbee will throw a fairway driver further then a distance driver... Simon said it best 90% of players shouldn't throw distance drivers...
So awesome to have connected/discovered Disc Golf and Brodie Smith in the past year and now have them come together. 2020 will be awesome. Another golfer to root for but I feel i know Brodie a bit more going in.
Excited to see where this goes, Hope I continue to see more disc golf videos with Paul and Brodie, entertaining and great for promoting the sport to those who have never played before, this is awesome, good stuff 🤙
Dope! You're bringing the game to so many new people! Keep it up. I'm an Innova guy but I'll be rooting for you Brodie! Also a driver with a dome will tend to be a little more overstable but also glide more. And that Crank SS is your roller...that would have gone 500'+ on that angle.
Brodie! It amazes me how you seem to understand the science and lingo as Paul talks about the different aspects of the discs and flight characteristics. I'm not sure if you remember me inquiring of any interest you have of Disc Golf during your [decade of] days of being the Skying Goat of Ultimate. I'm ecstatic that your passion for Disc Golf is growing rapidly. The Ultimate crowd that I believe you will draw towards Disc Golf will grow Our Awesome Sport like a surfer's wet dream wave. You have to watch them fly to truly understand. Starting out, all drivers are just different names and colors. Then you throw them and the numbers start to make sense.
Obviously you have some muscle mass built up and understanding of disc flight as an advantage, but watching someone start this great sport and all the steps and moments of understanding come through is amazing. Great series, keep up the good work!

I want a Coach McBeth!! And dammit; I’m subscribed to see your progression. I’ve played for over 10 years now but when I first started somebody told me to find a disc you feel comfortable “playing catch” with. That turned out to be a Buzz, but the idea was if you can consistently hit somebody in the chest from around 100 ft you’ll nail the midrange game and be able to focus on driving and putting.
Love the collaboration between the two of you. Since this is a teachable video, I'd find it more helpful if you could include 2-3 key take aways when you wrap up your videos. Thanks for the distance driver tips!

Paul dropped many nuggets of knowledge but most importantly for someone just starting u only need 5 discs 2 putters 3 midrange try and get one of each stability in the midrange and start by only throwing those it will teach you proper fundamentals and show you what you need to work on. Once you get the feel and can throw those properly then move up to your fairway and control drivers stay away from the 11-15 speed range you will throw a putter further then those. And always remember mate have fun it is an amazing sport to learn and play cheers
bodies said it perfect, " we're doing this so you can see me going through this journey" I have never played a round in my life but look forward to this summer, I didnt know what discs to get so I just ordered whatever I saw nate pull put of his bad on " in the bag" so I got his 2019 line up, lol, now I see some new kool discs I wanna try but I've already got like 22 discs I've never thrown hahaha , I might have jumped the gun but this winter is first time I heard of this sport and I'm in love , so ya I wanna be ready when the snows gone:) good luck Brodie it's so cool ya made the change over to disc golf!
Disc golf is about to be blowing up. I’ve been playing for 20 years and I’m 27, up until recently, not very many people have heard of it. Y’all are doing wonders for the sport. Keep it up 👍
So pumped for the number of potential new players that will come from Brodie getting hardcore into the best game that nobody knows about!!
That video was over a year ago and it was freezing cold. We were just trying to stay alive haha
@@BrodieSmith that explains a lot hahah
As a player myself, I'm loving the insight and how informal the video is. Also the story we're getting from someone starting their (hopefully long, healthy, and professional) career in the game is cool to see. Your mentor ain't half bad either ;) haha
Newer view and I'm diggin what I'm seeing. Keep it up Brodie!
I’ve been a fan of you, Brodie and disc golf for years and to see the two come together is amazing! Makes me wanna get out and play more
Brodie: "This is the one everyone needs to try out first. You gotta try out the Force".
Thousands of people now think disc golf is not for them.
PSA: If you're just starting disc golf DO NOT buy a Force lol
DONT BUY A FORCE FIRST!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
If someone HAS to throw a driver when just starting out and can’t be talked into sticking to putters/mids for a while, they should pick up a heat.
Lol
😂😂😂 overtstable meet hook for beginners, Brodie may be new to disc golf but he has solid arm speed already from his Ultimate background. He actually surprised me in this vid
I’m new to this sport and this video helped me understand a lot more about throwing discs correctly. Thanks guys
I'm really digging watching Paul walk Brodie through all of this. Y'all are doing such a fantastic job. Keep it up!
This is a Great video for people who want to learn more about the discs! Thanks guys!
Love that you're joining such a great sport and community !
Been having so much fun!
Hahah your revelation on the different types of disc color, stamp design, and foil color!!! It is like those multiplication problems in elementary school when you try to find out the amount of possible outcomes given a set of variables (answer for disc golf = billions). LOVE watching you discover and then translate into "noob language" the beautiful sport of disc golf....I am only 2 years into the sport and you are having the exact same thought process we all have when realizing how intricate disc golf really is!!! Subscribed!
Its great to have Brodie back with consistent uploads! Really enjoying these videos about disc golf, there’s so much I’ve learnt just from these past two videos! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m so stoked to watch you grow in disc golf, I’ve been dying to see you give it a try for a long time. Can’t wait to see more!
Dude stoked to have more of your content. Disc golf content trickles in during the off season.
You guys are a BIG help, I don't wish to compete, just have fun, but I'm learning loads watching you guys!
Glad to see this.. thanks Paul for taking the time to school Brodie
I am really enjoying watching your progress. Good stuff. Always a tidbit or snippet of info learned as well.
I really enjoy this video series. Its awesome how well you guys are explaining the sport for new players. Grow the sport.
Thanks Brooks!
We're expecting big things from you Brodie. 100% behind you. Go get 'em.. Can't miss with a 5x trainer...
PSA The Force = Advanced Disc Golf
If you’re just starting out, keep your disc speeds between 5 and 9.
(It’s the best way to figure out what you’re doing wrong/right)
The Force will always be there waiting for you, and if you hold off on trying to throw it right away, you’ll be crushing with it later on.
Another great video. Way to explain all the variation and what to look for and what to buy. Thanks
Theres a reason this man has over 2 million subs. Vids like this are the reason why. Class!
It's awesome to see your growth in disc golf from this video to the present
You have the best player in disc golf, coaching you, that’s bad ass! Good luck this year Brodie! See you in Waco!
Stability-
Overstable, the disc is going to want to hyzer sooner and harder than usual.
Brodie: literally anything
Paul: exactly
jk, nice vid guys, I can't wait to watch Brodie's rating skyrocket.
Excited to see where this goes, Hope I continue to see more disc golf videos with Paul and Brodie, entertaining and great for promoting the sport to those who have never played before, this is awesome, good stuff 🤙
Love these vids, always wanted to know more about what I’m throwing
Mid ranges are coming next
This was awesome for backhand! A forehand version of this would be great also.
Really digging the disc golf content, Brodie. Good to see you throwing the flatball again.
these vids are great! i needed them a few years ago, but better late than never. this content is gold for beginners. thanks, guys!
Cowabunga Dude!! 🤘😎🤘
I now finally understand under stable and over stable lol 🙌🏼
YEA!!!
Best Video in the series with Paul (very informative Disc review).....it's also great to see how "Seeking" Brodie is...with that attitude....the pro's better watch out....... : )
It's actually kind of cool seeing Brody learn as someone who Came to Disk golf from Ultimate Frisbee. Surprised we haven't seen any forehands out of him
I've been playing for a little over 8 years I still dont do that well and watching your videos has helped me improve bit by bit. Itd be kool to catch ya out in dallas, tx and watch ya play.
I love this. good job Paul and Hannah such a cute couple. Thank you too brodie for not yelling and being amazing.
Love the collaboration between the two of you. Since this is a teachable video, I'd find it more helpful if you could include 2-3 key take aways when you wrap up your videos. Thanks for the distance driver tips!
Been a subscriber for a long time because of ultimate. Haven't watched a video since...like the bridge throw boat catch?
But I'm watching, thumbs'n, and commenting every damn one of these.
Good luck dude. You gonna register for any Colorado tourneys!?
You gotta convince MKBHD to try a round of disc golf with you! Feel like it would make a great video and you both would kill it
We will def play a round at some point
Brodie Smith can’t wait to watch! Thanks for bringing more attention to this great sport man. Really appreciate it
started playing disc golf about 4 months ago and wish these videos existed then
Sorry I'm late to the game, but excited to finally be here
The vids keep getting better and better but there is a ton out there, already. Most aren’t this thorough, going through an entire bag with a throw to match and Paul providing feedback.
This is so awesome brodie and paul!! I hope to see these all year long!
Great content, cannot wait to see you rip it on the disc golf courses throughout the year, best of luck
Woo! More disc golf videos!
Lots more coming. Mid ranges are next.
@@BrodieSmith Sweet! Can't wait!
Hey Brodie I really think you should try out the Nuke OS! I’ve seen how well you can throw a hammer in Ultimate I really think you can utilize a thumber with that disc! I’m very glad to see you getting into disc golf! Good luck in the 2020 season and I hope to meet you out on the course!
Brodie: I like your analytic and professional take on disc golf. The first couple of competitons will show your (current) true talent, but at least no one can blame you lack determination. Keep up the good work! Waiting eagerly to see how you fare in your first competition.
Dude, he's already throwing like a champ. Excited to see him on a course soon.
Love the bag building vids. Also 5 time world champ Paul McBeth is my discolf hero
Gotta come to idlewild tourney. Simon said he was coming and hopefully paul as well!! Please dont give up, you are crushing it. I think this is a huge step for disc golf!
Just got off work and now some Brodie disc!!!!👍🏻💪🏻
Getting lessons from McBeast at the start of your DG career… Priceless
Keep em comin guys! These are a blast to watch.
