Bula vinaka. Glad to see you doing a vlog about the Vatukaloko Tribe, its lands, stories & etc. My mom is from Vatukaloko & shes from the Chiefly Household there. Always grew up listening to stories about their people & their history. Vatukaloko People are independent type of People interms of the Vanua. They've always been like that from the beginning & They dont pay homage to any other High Chief except their own which is the Tui Vatukaloko. The Tribe of Vatukaloko consists of 12 tribes. They used to be united in one place in the past but now many of them are being scattered, displaced around Fiji due to the works of Cakobau & later on Rt Sukuna. But it doesnt stop them from knowing who they are & where they from. The 12 Tribes of Vatukaloko usually come together during Functions such as installment of their High chiefs, etc. They still know themselves till today even though many of them has been displaced around Fiji. And also this people are still very rich in their culture, protocols & their traditional ways of life. Thanks for the vlog.Hope to see you do a video of hiking up Mount. NAKAUVADRA.
Vinaka, Makareta. Thank you for that detailed comment. A historic injustice was done to the people of the Vatukalolo which is still ongoing and unacknowledged. I hope to visit Navosavakadua's grave when I go to Rotuma. I honestly feel that with the right ceremony and protocols, involving all five villages of the Vatukaloko, he should be reburied in the village of Drauniivi. Theirs is the most compelling need for a formal 'soro' ceremony from the people of Bau. The injustice they were dealt was by the colonial government as much as Cakobau and his European allies in their uneasy government formed in 1871 but all we are left with now is the historic burden carried by the island of Bau to meaningfully carry out an apology. Yes, I am planning a trip to Nakauvadra. I'm especially keen to see the ancient Narara stones up there - Fiji's version of Stonehenge. Can't wait!
Thank you for taking us along with you in your Vlog, otherwise I would never have got to see it in person. Thanks to you and your guide for sharing the information with us. It was very infomative 👍
My pleasure, Moira. My only regret was I didn't get to fly my drone to give an aerial view of everything. I'm not a religious person but there was a real sense of something profound there. We will be returning to the site soon to see the only evidence remaining in Fiji of the ancient gods of Lutunasobasoba and Degei etched in stone.
Vinaka for sharing. I'm glad to watch this Vlog,as a decendant of the Yavusa Nakorowaiwai my forefathers are relocated in the beautiful island of Totoya Koro ko Dravuwalu.Kai Kubuna I wai.
It certainly is! We're actually supposed to be going back to Nakorowaiwai next week. And I should be filming from the Sigatoka sand dunes soon which looks like something out of a Lawrence of Arabia desert setting!
@@robert3987 It is on the main island of Viti Levu where the forest is so dense that a single-seat American P-39 fighter which disappeared in it during a mission on April 22, 1942, was only re-discovered in 2004. Tara riki na cola vina Mr. Sahu Khan. Binge watching your videos now. Wonderful. Nakorowaiwai, Fiji's very own Waterloo or Pass of Thermopylae. I hope that you will visit the Yasawa's and see it's treasured pass.
Vinaka, Willy. Nakorowaiwai was a big moment in Fiji's history but sadly so little known about. I should be returning there in about two or three weeks. The Yasawas is big on my list. I just need to build up a following with subscriptions on TH-cam before I make the leap to other islands in Fiji and other parts of the Pacific.
Hasn’t changed much ,was there for a feasibility study in 1973 and again 2016 for a short visit. Fiji museum has some some good pictures of the place. What a memory’s. flashback bro.vinaka! Ke mani.
This is too beautiful to watch🤩 Love the beautiful hill tops & the battle site that came with it. You can just imagine back in the days how the ancestors were living their lives back then. Thanks for the beautiful adventure bro😎👌🏽
Bro there's a place in our place here in Vuda, Lautoka the old and first fijian village of our ancestors before they disperse to Nakauvadra and Verata... It is called Korovatu, it is built on the rocks.
Vinaka vakalevu for sharing this soon to be forgotten part of our history. Hopefully sites like this are made into historical sites to preserve the past
I highly recommend you read Gov. A.H. Gordon's 'Letters and Notes written during The Disturbances in the Highlands (Known as the Devil Country) of Viti Levu, Fiji 1876. I contains diaries, memos and letters by colonial officials when the colonial government was fighting a war against the tribes of Navosa who refused to bow down to the Union Jack and kiss the King's ring.
Thank you ever so much for that info. I do have a pdf copy of the book that I downloaded from archive.org some time ago. A fascinating read. By a coincidence, I’ve been reading ‘The Bane’, a series of European settler/planter responses to Arthur Gordon’s remarks that Fiji shouldn’t be treated by them as a White Man’s Paradise.

Bula David. It was quite an ordeal getting a pass from Yaqara Pastoral Company (you absolutely need a pass). There was a gate near Drauniivi village that we entered through. From entry to the battle site it was about 30 mins. There is another gate near Fiji Water.
Almost certainly on top of the regulated cattle farming that goes on with Yaqara Pastoral Company. The hinterland is vast. I've been told there is some cattle rustling going on too with rustlers from the other side of the Nakauvadra mountain range.
Have you read Forbidden History by prof.Rob Nicol it will blow all previously held beliefs out of the water for example Tom Baker was never cannibalised

Thanks. This is the first time I've heard of this old story. Looking forward for more.
Yes. I've had such a positive response to it on TH-cam, I'm thinking of revisiting it with more facts.
Was uneven: Cakobau's guns against:stones, clubs and spears. Massacred!!
Totally. There’s a lot to tell. I didn’t realise it would be so popular so I’m going to do another vlog on the topic. 😃👍🏽🙏🏽🇫🇯

I’d like to try. It depends on how sensitive the authorities are to a vlogger.

Cakobau was fighting the war on behalf of the Methodist church he had no power
More truth needs to be told
You must see my vlog on Drauniivi where I attempt to uncover some of those lost stories.
Cakobau was always doing a favour for the colonists. They used religion as a weapon to lure us into their system which we live in now.
There are feral cattle in the area?
