The stinger does not use a camera. It has a single pixel that contains two elements, each sensitive to mid wave infrared and near ultraviolet respectively.

So in short: insert the battery, open the IIF-antenna, press the IFF button, wait for signal, aim the missile in correct way, push button to release the missile, disengage the safety, press and hold the trigger.. All of this in just couple of seconds as the enemy plane is whizzing away from you. It is absolutely crucial to have proper and throrough training so all of that is done in correct order and no steps are forgotten under the stressfull couple of seconds.

The uncage button unlocks the infrared seeker so it can move inside the head. The seeker is normally locked into place for reliability reasons during shipping and handling. Uncaging allows the seeker to track the target easily without the operator having to manually follow the target very accurately before launch.
