Lets go back a few years when AliExpress and Amazon weren’t a thing and people sold products over the TV and people had an insane Idea that either never made it, disappeared after one airing or made them millionaires! This is exactly when a man called Gary Dahl sat in a bar with his friends. This is when an incredibly genius and incredibly stupid idea at the same time hit Gary.
Back in the day he worked as a marketer which gave him the perfect ground to create everything he needed for his million dollar idea.
The Pet Rock.
Yep you heard that right… Gary sold a simple common rock for a couple of dollars that he bought for a few pennies. And since he was smart he launched the product right before Christmas and had his whole marketing set up to target parents and friends who needed a funny gift for kids and people asking for pets.
But Gary didn’t sell a rock, he sold an idea, a joke, a prank! He sold fancy packaging, paperwork with training tips how to raise and maintain your rock.
This was the actual product.
After an amazing first run, Gary Dahl quickly made over 2 million dollars in profit with a simple idea and his pet rock. This success was so big that you can still buy it today! But now for a whopping 29,99. And not only that! „Pet Rock“ today is in the Oxford English dictionary as a saying for a short trend. How amazing is that!
Have you ever heard of wish bones? Well apparently wish bones are bones of animals that are shaped like this so to people can hold on to them and break them apart. The one with the bigger piece of the bone will then have more luck in the next days or how ever long. Sounds kinda weird I know.
One thing I remember very strong was my very first iPod touch. I wasn’t the first one in my school class who had one but you were definitely one of the Coll kids if you could get your hands on one of those!
After a while the first apps and games came into the App Store and with them came insanely stupid ideas that made some lucky dudes a lot of money.
Now this next Idea is probably one of my favorites since I’m pretty confident in saying that nobody on this planet loves Christmas more than me! I’m basically Buddy the Christmas Elf when winter comes closer!
There is company called Santa Mail, that for only 10 Dollars send you or your kids a real letter from Santa! Isn’t that the best idea ever?!
They even went so far to actually get an address on the North Pole. So if that’s not amazing, I don’t know what is! And well… the made way over 1 million dollars in profit, so I guess that magic worked out great!
