Awesome to find a Billy Yang film on Everesting. I'm chronicling my attempt at a Double Everesting run in summer 2023. It's so fun to see others tackling the big things.
Hey Billy, another superb video. In November, I participated in a challenge which involved running two miles daily. I eventually came to love the experience of running. After the challenge, I started running farther. Then I signed up for a marathon. In the lead up to that, I found your channel and watched all of your fantastic work and got further inspired. Just last week, I completed my first 50k trail run. And already looking forward to the next adventure... Thank you sir.
Doers keep doing. Great quote. I'll say that one of the things that I love is that while often external impetus or organization provides us with a why, the great thing about these types of challenges and adventures is you can create them on your own and get it done. A bit harder, but still lots of opportunity to do this no matter where you are.
Billy Yang, your documentaries are WONDERFUL!😃 It seems like you're living your dream! Did your parents want you to pursue medicine or engineering (serious question)? I make a good living in medicine but MAN, I REALLY enjoy distance running! Your first video featuring your first ultra, REALLY moved me😢😰😃🏔🏃🏻♂️😧! I'm getting my endurance back, training for my 19th marathon and trying to figure out how I can cut down my hours in the hospital 🏥👨🏽⚕️😫, so I can get more time on the trails🏞🏃🏽♂️😃! Anyway, keep up the great work you are doing! I'm so happy for you! Peace!😊
I loved watching this whole thing, but especially the last guy in because that's been me and you have no idea, or maybe you do, how much everyone's cheering means as you struggle in After that, I always stay for the last guy ( usually pretty much on my heels, so no big deal really)
It'd be interesting to hear who you feel this event is aimed at Billy and how it fits into the broader ultra/endurance community? Over $4000 for what is essentially a 30 mile hike up a hill with ski-lifts down (plus a bit of "glamping") is an eye-watering sum. It's not a great exaggeration to say you could go on a mountaineering expedition up a real big mountain (Denali perhaps) for not a huge amount more money. I ask because this seems the antithesis of much that appeals to me about the ultra scene generally. No real sense of self-sufficiency, a bit of a built-in cheat (the cable car down), and in my mind hard to value the community "support" when you're a $4000 paying client rather than a standard participant in an event mainly staffed by volunteers. Strikes me as a corporate events selling the idea of ultra events rather than the real thing.
I didn't do this to see how it "fit" into the ultra space. It was a different kind of experience, one I was invited to, and one that I wanted to share. Plain and simple. Clearly it's price prohibitive for a lot of people but I'm also a free market guy. If there is an audience for these kinds of events, I say more power to them (and they do sell out). Ultra marathons aren't for everybody but a high end event like this might make it more palatable for those with means but also want to suffer and challenge themselves physically/mentally.
@@BillyYang you do good work, no doubt and I'm a subscriber. However these kind of events are so out of your norm and probably offensive to your main audience because they are fake.
Everybody has to earn a living, if they can get 250 people to fork over $4200 for a weekend more power to them. I too was shocked to see the cost of this event (think Fyre Festival!) but i’ll pass and vote with my dollars on other ultra events. The rest will take care of itself.
@@doubleplay4 offensive? Fake? I'm with Billy here. There's nothing wrong with experimentation and a diversity in event types. Besides if you're one to think there's something inherently evil in people having money, then one could see these as a magnet to reduce the number of people with money in lower-cost events. RDs experimenting with this kind of event and proving its viability could inspire another RD to try and create one that's similar but lower cost. Shaming experimentation gets in the way of innovation.
@@Drewb18c1 this is not experimentation this is an event to take peoples money and make them feel good about themselves. I can easily afford to pay and enter this type of events but I refuse to do so on the basis of principle. More power to organizers it's a free World but I'm also free to express my opinion.
I'm afraid I find all the discourse about the idea that your success only depends in your ability to commit with your goals very unfair (not so say insulting). I love the idea of pushing oneself further but I always keep in mind that literally there are millions of people who work incredibly hard all their lives and are never able to reach their goals for reasons that definitely they can't control.
Oh my god ! Is this a Google/Microsoft convention with all the speeches and the gurus ? Waaay too fancy and fashionable for me ! This is not trail running
We also have an Everesting event in Denmark, who would have thought! Hard to imagine in a country that is almost flat as a pancake, no peeks over 600 feet. The concept is a bit different. To get in you have to collect money for Doctors without Borders. If you collect the equivalent of 150 US Dollars you're in. You have to do the uphills as well as the downhills within the time limit of 30 hours. It's a looped course where you have to do 32 loops and around 80 miles. If this sounds too hard you can do the Mount Blanc or Galhøpiggen (the highest point in Norway) in stead.
I get why everyone is commenting about the price but this is a endurance event for the well off, nothing more, nothing less. I wasnt sure at the start of the video but I think it's a good event if you have the money to pay for it. Its a endurance holiday lol
I would do an event like this if it was reasonably priced and held somewhere like Sycamore Canyon in Malibu or Crystal Cove El Moro Canyon in Laguna Beach. Camp at the campsite at Sycamore Canyon and go up Overlook multiple times in 36 hours to make 29029. Camp at El Moro campsites and go up BFI multiple times in 36 hours to make 29029. That would be a fun weekend.
Nicely done as always. As for the event itself appeals to people who have money and exploits their desire to achieve something which seems hard and gives hem a false sense of accomplishment. I'll pass, with this kind of money I can go and run in Europe for two weeks or trek to Everest base camp.
Excellent narrative, superb documentation. I can definitely see the appeal of such an event...but I was missing one thing: diversity. Is this normal for events like these/ ultra-endurance events?

Your films always inspire! Thanks!

Love your movies! Love it! Love love love it!!
Yay, it's like Christmas treat when you release a new film man.
My wife and I loved the video and got excited about this event for 2020 .... until we saw the price tag ... wow !!! $4195 ???
But what if I told you that you get an anti aging face mask in your yurt?
it is for those who can pay it, they get exclusivity and such, i does not make it that much better event than your local run event
Great job, Billy! Great video and great blues music! Keep it up!
So solid Billy. This is a really uplifting video.
wow, what an awesome event. I am blown away.
Such an amazing story teller!! Thankyou.
Very cool film, inspirational to watch
Fantastic billy keep em coming bro ! Thanks

Good stuff, Billy!
Como siempre, fascinante el trabajo del señor Yang!!

Another great movie Billy!
dude, this event looks insane. goals. wicked video man
Great vid, Did not know about this event, thanks for sharing !!
Amazing.... but almost $5000 US is pretty steep for your average endurance junkie☹️
Whatttttt
$4195 AUD or USD $2861
wow. it looks like you do get a bunch of gear, housing, and food....but hard pass at that price.
Yes... you pay for fun
This is obviously for those with money. Kind of like the “retreats” arrested development makes fun of.
Well done Billy! Loved it!
Great work as always Billy!
Great video as alway! 👍🏻
This event looks awesome 😀

I agree with you. That's why my goals are only about things that I can control, such as being MY best rather than being THE best.

What a cool event
SnowBasin is great mountain, it was the location of the 2002 Winter Olympic’s downhill event.
Definitely ready for the UTMB man
Gee Rich Roll is a handsome bastard.
DizzlePup 100%
I suspect that this is mainly due to the use of anti-aging face masks (3:06).
Love it!!!

This inherently looks boring but if done with a bunch of good friends sounds fun.

I mean, what am I...chopped liver?
Billy Yang Films in your last film you are the diversity 🤓
What happens when they change the height of Everest? All that great merch will be a waste
Don’ters keep don’ting.
Billy, did you have to pay full price to participate in this event?
alcatraz no I did not. Never knew exactly how much it was
I’m so tired of seeing success as being wealthy.
Uuhhmm....not really... sleeping, smiles, good food...jokes.gonlola rides..where's the struggle???
Just kidding..
