  • Izzy found this jackfruit at our local Meijer store in begged and begged and begged and begged me to buy it. It weighed 17 pounds and it cost me about $38 to buy this jackfruit. We seen them hanging on the tree when we were in Maui and she remembered and begged me to buy it. Of course I gave in we brought it home and now Izzy and Noah are going to cut it open so we can see what it looks like inside and how it taste.
All of the family tries it we all have different emotions and then dad tries it and it doesn’t go too well. Watch and see what happens

We have a jackfruit tree here. We let it to ripe. Once it ripens, the yellow parts becomes sweet, soft and lil slippery. We eat it that way in India. As for the seeds, you can dry it out, then roast it Or boiled until soft.

Young jackfruit is nearly flavorless so that’s ideal for vegetarian pulled pork or other savory dishes and basically anything, and then really ripe jackfruit is the sweet flavorful tasting one.

I’m in Canada so have only tried jackfruit out of the can or in a shake from a local Vietnamese restaurant and it’s delicious!

canned jackfruit is probably cheaper and tastes better from all the sugary syrup that’s added😊

That jack fruit wasn't ripe it doesn't take such a hard time to pull it apart You should be able to just pick it with your fingers easily & it smell very good taste more like a ripe banana than pineapple and make sure to separate the part that can't be eaten Maybe it was still attached & it gave him an allergic reaction make sure it's RIPE properly you can have as it is or cook it

I get a similar reaction to the one your husband had when I have had dragon fruit. It is scary to not know you are allergic until you eat something and have a reaction.

Not a waste of money you all learned. Great experiment. And yes now you. Know. Teaching to try new things. Good job removing it from house. Allergies are awful to try to cope with

Plant the 3 of the seeds indoors just for fun over the winter and transplant in the spring outdoors and see what happens, keep doing indoor and outdoor until it won't take it any longer. A fun project to try.

I has jackfruit once. It tasted like grapefruit made of rubber with tree sap. It was sticky yet dry, rubbery and a mix of sour and tart. Like licking a rock and then sucking the juice out of grapefruit. Very odd. Never again.
