  • Finally finished the pickup video from three weeks ago! Meet Moon River (barn name: Luna)! To stay up to date on her training, make sure to follow my instagram (@camillesmustangs) and facebook (Camille's Mustangs) because it is hard for me to stay on top of editing videos while I am in school and training horses.

I am glad you said "No one taught you," because I have had people tell me to get a tip mustang, one that is already gentled... But I don't want that and my reason is because of that connection you make with the horse! The first person with the horse make a huge difference to them, makes that connection, wins that trust, and that is what I want! Thank you, we all have to start somewhere! You, Sam, Elisa and a few others give so much info, and do a great job with the horses, I want to do that also! My problem is, no one around here wants a wild mustang boarded, so I don't have a place to get one right now!

@@CamillesMustangs I have, I have been doing alot of research this year about how to adopt, training, the challenges. My first one is one I want to keep and if things go good, then I will think about getting to be a tip trainer and the shows. But first I need to get onto property so I can get a mustang. I am working on that, my son will help me with getting a fence up, and everything! I keep looking for a boarder, but that is not working out! There are alot of horses here in Oregon, and I am only a few hours away from a mustang holding. So, right now I am getting things together while I look for a place. I'm sorry about the other one, she is pretty! I watched your video bids on her! Watched Sam's also. Sam has her hands full with her mustang! But you both are great trainers and they will be wonderful to whoever buys them.

As a Southern California guy, who owns nothing but three large (adopted from shelters) german shepherds and knows nothing much about horses (except they're wonderful creatures), let alone the "makeover," but I can assume certain things from a layman's (journalist) prospective on herding wild burros on the desert. I think you anguished over your decision, and I applaud you for that . . . but I also think you made the right decision. As a volunteer at a pet shelter, I oten marvel at (and complain) about the tendency of organizers of adoption events to send three-legged dogs, 18-year-old cats, etc., to the event BECAUSE NO ONE was adopting them. Duh. They came back, time and again, still not adopted, while pens and pens of healthy, happy and extremely adoptable pets stayed penned up . . . perhaps never to be adopted, perhaps to be "euthanized." I hope your mustang lives a long, healthy and happy life (I'm pretty sure she will) and that the mustang you turned down does the same. Better the BLM face the facts--fortunate or otherwise--with their experts and their funding. I'm NO horse expert, that's for sure, but I enjoyed this video . . . and I empathize! The fact that you took so much time agonizing over your decision is indication of your good heart. Thank you for posting this!

Vet gave 3 possible causes for a lump of that size and very nasty infected bug bite, cyest or cancer. We were told bug bite it would be some medicine and it would be fine. Mustangs are not for novices! Unless the buyer has a trainer set up or is an experienced trainer, buying a wild mustang can be a bad and even fatal choice. I hope you emphasize this to your audience because I know of a few "trainers" who have tried selling wild caught, newly broke mustangs to novice riders, even to one friend of mine who had NO horse experience! No matter how well a trainer trains a wild horse, it does take years of life experience for any horse, any breed, to be considered a well broke horse.

I have no issue that you chose a different horse. I do have an issue if the BLM doesnt get your prior pick medical attention immediately. There's no excuse that makes it okay for them to neglect that mare's facial condition becUse they have her in their care! I'm in the dental field and even in horses there is chance of sepsis and pain would lead to other issues like losing weight, etc. They are responsible to put her in a squeeze chute, sedate her, take x-rays, give her antibiotics, float her teeth, or even extract a bad tooth. Just tossing her out to live with it without knowing is straight up neglect, so thqt is never a solutiin for a horse they have captured and in their custody and care, period. I have no respect for any of them that would allow that neglect.

Despite this if you were looking to gentle horses I would encourage you to try and find someone who does break horses and gentles them. Working in person with them will be wayyyyy more helpful, at least it was for me. You could also look for a person that breaks horses and learn from them, it doesn't have to be mustangs specifically.

So she should have taken on possibly thousands of dollars on a horse that was just supposed to be for a competition? What horrors? They just live out in the fields. If they come down with something that impacts their daily life, they do get put down. If you aren't out there adopting medical cases, you can't judge much.

julia gray her and my parents live in a different city (I’m in college station for school) so the only help I give her is through texting or calling her. She does have a trainer back home though. She doesn’t have a TH-cam but you can follow her instagram - @epona.mustangs

There are plenty of mustangs out there that are already trained and beginner safe. I bet your trainer can point you in the right direction if you tell her what you are hoping for. Alternatively, maybe your trainer will let you help with their current one. :) Even the seemingly small stuff will teach you tons.

Keep riding, soon enough you'll learn the ways of the horse and understand how they move and respond to the way you move.
If you like reading, I recommend books by Monty Roberts. He has some haters because he hasn't always gotten stuff 100% correct but not no one is perfect, and the only way you can learn is to make mistakes
Also, when you are confident enough and your trainer let's you, try riding bareback. It'll show you how a horse moves and responds to pressure of your legs better.

I absolutely adore horses and would LOVE to train a mustang! But unfortunately, due to medical reasons I will probably never be able to. :( I have a TERRIBLE back and pinch my nurves so often and so badly that i have permanent nerve damage in my back. But i used to train and ride horses when i was younger, and I miss thoes days.

I don't know if this was what the other person was asking, but if you sign up for the EMM and are unable to compete (like your sick) or need to drop out for some reason do you have to give the horse back, or will it go to auction, or can you just keep it as a personal horse?

Can someone please tell me the difference between youth & extreame?

    • @mcperformancehorses8516
      @mcperformancehorses8516 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Youth generally just 'halter break". They compete in hand, like showmanship, and in hand obstacle course, not under saddle like the adults, Its a little bit easier because you have more time to focus on groundwork, and much safer! The adults have to do both, show in hand and under saddle. The Extreme Mustang Makeover is one of the competition names, they host both a youth and adult competition.

Good decision to let the injured horse return to holding. You have to dedicate your time to a horse that will be adoptable. And with a sore in/on her mouth, may be difficult/impossible to train.

I am kind of in the process of looking for a house and if it’s an option, it would be my dream to have a horse. I’m curious if it would still cost an arm and a leg to try to cheaply provide for said horse without depriving it of anything necessary or essential. Ive spent a lot of time around horse just not familiar with the $ side

That looks like an impacted tooth to me. Had SEVERAL ponies with issue. Pretty much as soon as the issue is taken care of by a dentist, the swelling goes away.

Luna is built really nice. I love low set hocks like hers.. usually they track up nicely and with her a hairs breath ‘set under’ behind, well that’s why we saw her beautiful and scopey trot as she went in and out of the pens. She’s got a good butt, with good angulation so she’s going to be very athletic! ❤️🦄

I’ve always wanted a mustang and always known they can be stubborn but at the same time extremely reliable horses. And been thinking about going to theses events to get one. Do you have any tips one what to look for and what to look out for with wild horses and tips on gentling them

I've heard that buckskins could have dorsal stripes, and duns could not have leg stripes (idk what they're called) so I' not sure what the true difference is. As you said in the video, buckskins can NOT have dorsal stripes, correct?

As long as you fulfill the requirements, you can get approved to adopt. Google BLM Online Corral, the info is all there.
