Always a pleasure to view another Pontus video, thanks for the review! I couldn't agree more on the slipcases, I prefer the top to bottom curve over any other design. It is more stylish both on the shelf and in hand, the spine is more visible and it it easier to remove the book from its slipcase. Disadvantages? Maybe price is why they use slipcases that are quick and easy to design and make...

And thanks for watching! :-) I agree, I'd assume that price is the main factor for these (boring) slip-cases, sadly.

    Fantastic, as usual.
I was going to disagree with you about the slipcase. I've often thought they would look better straight. But once on the shelf, it became very obvious that the box undermines the beauty of the spine.
My personal favourite is the slipcase shape with the curve on top and bottom that follow the curve of the spine, covering the pages, with the straight sides that come down just before the hinge of the boards. My American Gods has this style, as does East of Eden, both from last year. But it isn't new. My Scarlet and Black from 1966 also uses this design.
We by Zamyatin, which is very new, has yet another design, where the curve is a cutout that begins and ends a little more than three centimetres from the top and bottom. I think it works for this particular book's design but I wouldn't prefer it if it became standard.
I love your cat. It has the floof. More cat please. Always.

The standard long curve they use now also has a pretty deep history. My Le Mis from 1976 uses it.
I think the recent Crime and Punishment would have done well with the same box treatment as East of Eden. It's such a nice design, and so exact.

Thanks! I totally agree about the slip-case design that, for example, 'American Gods' has is very neat and I will try my best to film more videos of my fluffy friends! :-) Thanks for watching!

Peter Matthiessen has written many wonderful books. 'Under the mountain wall; in New Guinea, 'The Tree where man was born', his great Africa book, 'Sand rivers' in Tanzania, 'African silences' in West Africa and several others. All amazing writing.

I know this won't do much for your plea for folio society to stop what they're doing, and im sorry for that, but i like the non-curved slipcases. I think they just look alot better on the shelf, the cruved cases kinda make the book look clumsy, like the spine looks wider in the middle of the book and also with the non-curve the books slide and escape much smoother out of their slipcases (prisons).
I agree that sometimes it looks bad, like the steppenwolf for example, when its much too loose and too deep inside and easily tumble around in its prison. Great video though
