YES!! We were on the second balcony on the right side of the stage. It's ALL TRUE. Grownups were weeping and stomping and screaming. My mom took me. I will never, ever forget it! She was so tiny. And so powerful. Never in my life have I seen anything better.

I have a truly eclectic musical collection of favorites-superb jazz, folk, bluegrass, classic rock, country-rock, classical composers, R & B … whatever hits me in the gut; the prerequisite is that it’s gotta be TOP-NOTCH, whatever the genre.
Among the crowd of all-time great crooners and popular singers, I have a slew of Sinatra’s albums, Dean Martin, some Perry Como, one Peggy Lee, etc. etc., and three of Judy Garland’s Capitol LPs (Alone, Judy in Love, and this Carnegie Hall stunner.)
THIS album is so majestic that it is played ANNUALLY (by me) on a staggering surround sound system, with a bottle of champagne on hand to start the show, in a comfortable chair, and some single malt scotch to sip as the magic continues to unfurl. In other words, playing this album is a yearly *event*, which testifies to its grandeur, I hope.
As I mentioned, I have many spectacular recordings, but no combo of live music and charisma-loaded performance/musicianship in my collection matches this legendary work. I can see why it became (and has remained) a cultural phenomenon, much like her Wizard of Oz, St. Louis, and A Star is Born films. Garland is *the* gold standard, especially at Carnegie Hall. Untouchable.
Some years ago, I heard that artist Rufus Wainwright, who I knew only by name at that point, was actually going to duplicate the entire Garland concert, AT Carnegie Hall, no less. I was amazed at the ambition and bought the recording out of an abundance of curiosity. Wow. What a shambles. I’m sure some of his other, self-written work is quite good, but the entire thing came across as one of the most ill-advised stunts I had ever encountered. Almost like a blasphemy 😄 (I mention this because I noticed in the tribute video the assertion that “some have tried foolishly to reproduce this night …” and my mind went immediately to the Wainwright project. What a tomato-can of an attempt, but perhaps it led people to discover the original. Oh, well.)
Anyhow, this album is unquestionably one of the great all-around recordings of human history and captures the one-of-a-kind magic of the incomparable Garland. Every serious record collector should have this and at least one of her 1950s HI-FI Capitol studio long-plays. I haven’t explored her 1940s work because few film soundtracks, curiously enough, feature in my collection. But I gather she has a wide body of studio cuts from that era, beyond the film standards that most know and love from her. Gotta get on that, I think.
At all events, kudos for this tribute to a watershed American classic record.

There are only several moments in my own lifetime when I wish I could have been witness to something historic...this is one. There are moments just playing the recording, that reduce me to tears. I can't imagine how it would have affected me to have also seen her that night.

At a local used record store I recently found an original copy of the record in near mint condition. Not a single scratch on either album. They had it priced at $3 if you can believe that. What a find!

Oh, how I would have loved to be there that night! I was only 9 years old, but when the double album I bought it by taking an advance on my allowance at the time. My mother bought a stereo record player so we could hear the recording better. I still have the album!

I played this album so much, I wore out my first 2-record set and had to buy a replacement. That was later followed with the CD when that technology came out. As Rolls Royce sets the standard against which automobiles are compared, for me, like millions of others around the world, Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall sets the standard against which all solo concerts should be judged.

I need to post a tribute to this album all these years later after my first hearing this truly incredible recording. I was introduced to the Carnegie Hall album at a music store in 1961, and I was totally lost to Garland's talent and voice. Yes, she had me at the first few notes of the overture. ( Let us not forget Mort Lindsey her musical director. ) To this day, March 15 2017 it remains in my heart. Thank you Judy, I could never thank you enough, but let me offer this tribute by my writing this post. KOR-

I had this on vinyl in 1961, loved it I heard that some woman in the audience actually threw theyre mink furs in the ilse as a gesture of love during the applause,i dont know how true it is, but the appreciation and cheering went on for so long ,it must have been one of those very special " nights to remember " I recall sales of this concert went sky high on the billboard.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤

There's not a single Garland afficionado on the planet who doesn't know that line: "I know. We'll...we'll sing 'em all and we'll stay ALL night..." Gay de rigueur.

What a beautiful tribute! Thank you for making this. Make ma happy & cry. Please make another one at Judy’s 100 birthday in 2022. Sure you’re planning.
Also I think a feature film of her live performances should been made! Maybe putting this and that footage together could make this happen. If necessary, how about crowdfunding? I’ll be in!

When you consider that the modern world of entertainment is generally considered to be over one hundred years old, that this very special fabled concert, should be so frequently mentioned as "The greatest night in Show Business History", is simply staggering...I mean just think of the thousands upon thousands of performances done over all the decades, live shows, radio, tv, nightclubs, etc etc,
