  • This video explains how to diagnose and replace a defective Pitman Arm on 1994 to 2001 Dodge RAM RWD Pick-up Trucks.
    The Pitman Arm on the truck used for this video had too much play on the joint that connects the Pitman Arm to the Center Link. This made the Truck unsafe and caused the need to replace this part to make the Truck Road Worthy and Safe again.

    Great job. Direct and to the point. Very clear explanation. Keep up the good work. So many people make things look hard and leave out the important details. You have it all covered.

    I had the big nut come off and the arm jump off the bolt while I was driving down the interstate going from Omaha into Counciltucky one morning in heavy traffic. Narrowly missed having a huge wreck! Make sure you torque that nut correctly! It's a wonder I'm not dead and didn't hurt anyone else. It was an old Chevy pickup that someone gave me when I was destitute so that I could work. The steering was real sloppy and I didn't get it checked. I learned my lesson. Hopefully my story will nudge anyone with silly sloppy steering to get their's checked before it's too late.

    Question once you replace the Pitman arm on a 99 dodge ram if it’s already in line would you have to redo Front in alignment

  • @MrOliverAC

    Help. There is contact between my tie rod and the frame (chassis). My truck therefore sways to the right, because the weight of the vehicle pushes the passenger tie rod end down and to the right.

    Does anyone know if the truck needs to he jacked up for this change or if I can reach it how it is will that work I have plenty of room just dont know if pressure is a factor

  • @smokeythehuman3596
    @smokeythehuman3596 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome video, does the truck need to have front end up on jack stands to do this? Or would that make it easier atleast? Call me crazy but took mine to a pepboys to have front end looked at and they found pitman arm idler arm and both upper and lower control arms to be bad along with rear shock absorbers and stuff to be bad and quoted me about 4k so yea fuck that I'll do it myself and this video seems to help pretty good

    My Pitt arm will NOT come off for the life of me. Jesus.. I've bent a puller.

    What brand Pitman did you use and why?

  • @tubbs200803
    @tubbs200803 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had to cut mine with a die grinder no amount of heat and hammering helped out. The puller I used was at its breaking point before i decided to cut it

    • @edkay3601
      @edkay3601 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, he got lucky with how easy the pitman arm came off the steering box shaft.

    • @tubbs200803
      @tubbs200803 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edkay3601 yeah I've never had such luck. Maybe 1 in 6 pitman arms comes off with a puller. And its always a small car where the pullers way overclassed for the job.

    So a 4wd model doesn’t have an idler or pitman arm??

  • @AhPhoey
    @AhPhoey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is this for a 2WD? My 4WD 99 Dodge doesn't have a pitman arm with a joint like yours.

    Dodge trucks and vans also have weak bushings in the steering box, which will exhibit the same symptoms; steering box play and 'death wobble.'
