I'm surprised they didn't feature Viktor Krum in any of the Goblet of Fire artwork. I know he's not a major part of the overall story, but he is the Bulgarian seeker.
Hey, a bulgarian here! :) I'm glad that you liked the covers. Do you know that the painter Lyuben Zidarov, who painted these illustrations, is almost 100 years old, he is born in 1923. Just a curious fact. :)
These aren’t my favorite. They look a little young even for Harry Potter. They feel more picture book than middle grade book. But I do love that they included extra art inside. It’s a really nice touch.
My friend who lives in Thailand jut send me a pic of the new edition of HP (I think it's 20th-anniversary editions too) and the cover arts look really nice. idk if you have seen it.
Oh yes they are magnificent. I have the replicas of the books too. they are my favourites out of all the languages that I have they are bloody magnificent
I want to thank you, Peter. Not only for sharing your collection and knowledge, but for developing my appreciation for cover art. Love it! And now, thanks to you, the books are like pokemon....gotta catch 'em all.
Great video! I love when you talk about books. I wish you’d do a video like this of all the artworks/editions in each language. It’s kinda meditative for me to watch
As a Bulgarian , I just want to say that I'm a big fan of yours when I saw your video, I was so happy because I didn't expect anything like this. I love Harry Potter with all my heart, and when I watch your videos, I feel like I'm there at Hogwarts and it's all real. Thank you!
I can not get enough of those covers! They are so amazing!! I want to become a Harry Potter collector just to see those covers! Keep on collecting, you are amazing!
I think that white image in HBP is meant to be Dumbledore. He is falling out the window after Snape casts the killing curse. It looks like arms, legs and beard in there. I really like the spines of these books, especially when they are all lined up together. They are simple, but have nice colours. I think my favourite covers include the most recent German set, Armenian (particularly the Philosopher's Stone cover), and my third usually changes depending on my mood, but at the moment it is the Swedish 20th Anniversary edition.
This is very whimsical - oh haha you just said the same word - like the hard covers, it’s fun seeing all these interpretations - feeling blue (like many others of course) so thanks for posting Peter!
I am living vicariously through your Harry Potter Collection. Lol! So awesome! Love the Aunt Marge picture! Almost spit out my juice I laughed so hard!!😂🤣😂🤣
Bravo!! I'm happy that you bought the Bulgarian Edition. I'm Bulgarian and live in the U.S and I started following you maybe like 2 weeks ago and I was surprised that you bought the Bulgarian ones.
I’m so happy that you’ve found these. I’m from Bulgaria and when I say the goblet of fire book and saw about The quidditch World Cup I was so joyful. I’m proud being Bulgarian and love that people have made Bulgarian book covers of my FAVOURITE BOOK SERIES!! I’ve made my friends love Harry Potter ❤️❤️ Btw I love ur vids and I am a potter collector too 🥺❤️❤️❤️
Yes, I love these! Thanks for sharing them in detail, and also for letting us know your personal reasons for loving them. Right now my favorites are the original Italian covers, the new 20th anniversary German covers, and the Japanese covers, but they do change! I will say the Italian covers always stay at the top of my favorites, though. 👍✨
I think my all time favorite is just the german one. The ones I grew up with and it always gives me a little smile when you move your head a bit and I see harry in my beloved way on the backs of the soft cover versions
🥰Probably my all-time favorite covers are the Jonny Duddle UK books and probably a close second are the 20th anniversary editions from Kazu Kibuishi. But of course, I'll always have love for the original covers from Mary.
Karolina Marinova growing up I never knew its written with a T, just because all of the bulgarian movies dubs used the Voldemor pronounciation.. Voldemort always sounded soo weird
I think the Bulgarian translator Maria Maslarova did a very good job at researching the origins of the names and identified Voldemort comes from french and means something like the flight or death. That’s why we all in Bulgaria never really knew about the T until I heart the first film.
It’s super cool you like them! We don’t like them in Bulgaria because they’re such a missed opportunity for a real artist that has actually read the books to so something truly artistic and fresh to inspire new generations of harry fans.
The art style reminds me a little of Albert Tucker, and the more I look at them, the more I like them- especially the Death Eater army. My favourite covers are still the current UK/AU paperbacks, though. Thanks for sharing! 🖤
Hii . Your videos are awesome !! If you want to know what’s the artwork on the inside of the half blood prince I think it is dumbledore falling from th astronomy tower when killed by snape.
my favorite Harry Potter book art is done by Kazu Kibuishi, his work is stunning I particularly love his cover for Sorcerer's Stone and Order of the Phoenix. My second favorite is the Japanese version.
My favourite covers are probably the Swedish ones. I've always disliked the Finnish ones and going to bookstore in Sweden and seeing them there made me fall in love them. I also really like the new cover arts we have now. Multiple countries seem to have the same new cover.
These books aren't really my cup of tea, but I can appreciate the talent/work behind it. Also your explanation of a child-like image making the whole series feel more whimsical wasn't something that I had ever thought of. So I can understand the appeal now. But I think my Original Canadian/UK covers will always be my favourite, if just for the nostalgia.
I'm not sure these covers were for me. They were definitely interesting and I get the appeal of them, but just not my favorites. I just love how many variations there are of the cover artwork though. We can all have our favorites.
I only have the original paperback ones and the cursed child hardback and recently got gryffindor edition and illustrated edition of the philosopher's stone.
I love whimsical covers too! and these are wonderful! Have you got the Thai 20th anniversary editions? I love the covers there. Different style, but whimsical too!
My bias is definitely the American edition that I grew up with 😅 But I also like the 15th anniversary Chinese edition! But thanks for sharing these new additions!
I'm very biased towards Mary GrandPre's covers because 1) love her drawing style, the colors and the choices she made with the key moments and elements for each book; 2) they're the first edition Brazilian covers, so they'll always be my favorite just for the emotional aspect of it all. So my top 3: 1. USA (Mary GrandPré) 2. France (especially the Deathly Hallows one, I just find it so beautifull and melancholy, it matches the atmosphere of the book perfectly imo) 3. Japan (from a purely aesthetic point of view, I think it's the best one, the artwork is simply stunning, looks like it should be framed and displayed somewhere lol)
Hi Peter! You've got lots of kind regards from the artist who did the Bulgarian Harry Potter anniversary edition books, Lyuben Zidarov. Maybe you're unaware of his age: 96 years old! (no typing error). And he drew the covers and illustrations just about 18 months ago. Actually, he happens to be the most widely recognized book illustrator in this country, having illustrated many of the young reader's classics like Andersen's Fairy Tales, Arabian Nights, ETA Hoffmann, Treasure Island, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, etc. The premiere of the new Harry Potter edition created something of a storm in Bulgaria. Many purist fans condemned it, lots of others liked enthusiastically and eventually, the books got the Big Awards of the Sofia Book Fair last December. Warm greetings, Phil
This is soo random...but could the inside cover drawing for HBP be Snape receiving Tonk's Patronus in the beginning when she finds Harry in the train.. it looks similar to the Patronus drawing in book 5
I think the "some people don't like it" is a soft way to put it. A big chunk of the fandom here dislikes the new covers (to put it lightly). I'm glad you enjoy them, but the artist himself admitted that he did not read all the books beforehand (or subsequently for that matter) and openly blasted the series and called it filler literature. Which for me, as a long term fan of the series, is absolutely unacceptable & insulting. I also find the art style rather ugly tbf. Egmont could have done so much better for the 20th Anniversary editions in Bulgaria.
The sad thing is so many bg not known artist would have died to make the covers and who knows how beautiful they would have been, but they had to pick the communist style well known artist...
The Bulgarian anniversary editions almost made me weep with sadness when i saw them in the store. They are just... bad and ugly as all hell. And don't get me started on what the illustrator said about the books (not his art, but the books themselves). For the first time in my life i wanted to throw a book in a fire.
Hi, Peter! Before i will tell you my top 3 translations i will tell you a few things: 1.First is first. Thank you that you collected my country translation This is my top three translations: 1. The original book cover of Harry Potter from English(the britanic english) 2.The Romanian but isn't so inspired at the book cover 3.And the Harry Potter translations for adults. Thank you!
Fun fact, the t in Voldemort is silent because it comes from french Vol de mort, whici means Flight of Death ^^ Azkaban also comes from french la cabane (hence why the n is not silent here :p ) which technically means hut/shack/cabin, but here, is used in its second meaning, which is "jail" in slang ^^
I love the editions that the spines make the Hogwarts castle the most out of all the editions arround the world! I just wish I had a friend in the USA that could buy and ship them to me because i cant find them anywhere here (europe)
I'm surprised they didn't feature Viktor Krum in any of the Goblet of Fire artwork. I know he's not a major part of the overall story, but he is the Bulgarian seeker.

As a proud bulgarian potterhead, I loved this. Thank you!

Wow! 👍✨
Fun fact and his personal style is on every single children’s book from communist times. Now on harry potter. It’s just not right
That’s really cool ❤️⚡️🧹
@@Vassleto I find it fits a lot with Harry Potter, what do you think doesn't add?
🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
I find it funny that almost all Bulgarian fans hate this covers
And here's you love the hell out of them😂

RK The character we definitely hate them a lot. The only people that like then are non-fans.
I dislike them, too! :D

I wish we could get print on demand harry potter books with cover art of whatever country you prefer. That would be so cool. Decadent, but cool.
Yes and it could be in the language of the person buying, changing only the cover! It would be incredible!
Yessss, I'm Bulgarian & freaked out when I saw your video!!!!!!
I am from Bulgaria and here almost nobody is loving those covers :D Glad you enjoy a Bulgarian version of our beloved book, tho ♥

Oh my gosh I just looked them up and they are BEAUTIFUL. Haven't seen a prettier cover in my entire life😍
The best ever covers I think.

Wonders are written , the thought for ages are really compelling " don't judge a book by it's cover" I wonder how to state for this collection
I like the Bulgarian designs too! And I am VERY particular when it comes to design.

Actually on bulgarian Voldemort is pronounce "Voldemor", without "t"
Karolina Marinova growing up I never knew its written with a T, just because all of the bulgarian movies dubs used the Voldemor pronounciation.. Voldemort always sounded soo weird

Yes
My favorite part about the art is the scenes the artist chose to paint. All strong scenes that stick to the readers.
It’s super cool you like them! We don’t like them in Bulgaria because they’re such a missed opportunity for a real artist that has actually read the books to so something truly artistic and fresh to inspire new generations of harry fans.
My favorite covers are the Persian ones for how ridiculous they are! Persian GoF always cracks me up when I feel down!
I saw the new Thai covers that are coming out soon and they might be my favorite. I know you’ll get them and I am expecting a review 😬
