  • Trapping honeybees that had nested in a chimney. Really cool video of a simple trap to get bees to come out of a wall. Saved the bees and moved them to a safe place where they won't bother anyone.

To do a complete trap out, the nuc needs to be left there for several days or even a week after bees cease to exit via the cone. The cone can then be removed and the bees in the nuc can 'rob' their old home. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed watching it and good to see someone else's approach.

Great to see people attempting to remove bee hives alive. I know it's not always possible, but important to try especially with the declining bee populations in the world.

Thank you for this! I was thinking of doing something similar, as the house to be renovated has a 30 year old hive between the double-bricks. There's probably 4 hives worth of bees, at least. I was told they were in the wall, but I can feel them with my toes under the basement landing, so it might be possible, after establishing a catch route to the new boxes, to pump some smoke into the floor and wall, driving all the bees AND the queen into the new hives. Conveniently, there is a ledge right around the corner from the hive's opening, and these are the gentlest bees -- I thought the hive was higher, popped my head around the corner & ended up barefaced nose to nose with a lower entrance. No stings, no aggression. I'm thinking if I can get them into the hives, and establish that they have the queen out or give them one, we could set the hives on a tree-stand just 10 feet away. Then we could ensure the hive wall was smoked empty & access the hive through the wooden basement-steps' landing, possibly salvaging honeycomb & brood for them. What do you think?

If you have a frame of standing eggs and brood, slip that in the same day you place the box, the wax alone won't do much to entice them, but with brood it only takes a few hours and the nursing instinct tells them all to go in an take care of the brood, you'll see a queen cell started after 2 or 3 days. Shake all of the bees off from the colony you stole them from though. I found it also helps to place the entrance to the new box as close as possible to the original entrance. 2-3 inches at most.

You know, I never did get the queen from this colony. They died out over the winter and the homeowners painted and sealed up the chimney. If I were to do this again I now know to put a frame of open brood in the nuc box and the queen will come out and investigate.

Sometimes its difficult because they built a colony in very difficult areas like inside chimneys and the only solution would be break it

This solves one part of problem for the home owner. Yes, you have removed the bees, but their food supply is still there and leaving it will only attract less desirable pests like mice, roaches, and beetles. I've lost a hive due to small hive beetles and if there are any in that wall, they are going to end up with one stinky, rancid mess.

    1. Get a queen bee with some drones.
    2. Get her to breed in a small nuc box
    3. Wrap up nuc box wit paper box, seal it and put some holes on the side.
    4. Send it to WBC.
    5. ???
    6. Profit

Good video but as you can see, the bees were trying to go back into their original home. You had the nuc box too far away from the original hive. The nuc box needs to be located 'walking distance' from their original entrance. Bees exit via the cone, go the field, return with nectar and honey and will enter the nuc box rather than going into their original entrance when it's in very close proximity.

I have a similar situation and the bee keeper who is coming will have to go through a cut out in the ceiling of my laundry room in order to remove the honey and the comb. Otherwise it will attract cockroaches and mice. It is not going to be cheap either and he will take the bees and supposedly the honey will not be edible Because of probable critter infestation. ☹️

I live in an old log home with bricks on the outside. The former owner said he had so many honey bees in the walls that the honey was oozing down the living room wall. Well, we have those bees, but there is no honey. I've called several bee people and they don't want to extrude the bees. What am I to do? I'm not a professional bee person. They are making a lot of noise outside and are somehow getting into the house.

Without catching the queen you have not removed the problem…..you reduced the bees there for sure….but the queen will always have the ability to revive the colony…..you must leave the trap-out in place until she comes out….usually a long period….but eventually she will be persuaded to come to the new box….take away the frames of bees….put empty frames back in box….stay the course….checking for the queen on each frame….

You would leave the box there for 6 month and the queen will eventually move into the box providing the connection tube is more than 50 cm long. The queen will move into the box once the pollen is stored inside the box by the worker bees. When she starts laying you can move the box. But bees don't read books so there is no guaranty for it to always go your way.

The bees are not removed from the wall.
The queen is still in the wall and will continue to lay eggs which of course turn into more bees.
    The problem is still there.
If the customer had to pay for this service then the customer got ripped off for an job not done correctly.
If the queen would had came out, this job would not had been done correctly either.
The honey and comb left behind, would had created even more problem. It would had invited roaches, ants, wax-moth and many other critters thrive for years and would had called for an exterminator to come over and over again to get rid of those critters.
Better get an expert to do the job right.

not only that but all kinds of pests like cockroaches, carpenter ants, wax moths. it will ferment, stink etc.
A queen left alone will die. she needs workers. a new colony would kill her.

Right but you can treat the nest late in the winter when the bees done consumed most of the honey. early spring with some sevin or droin dust, seal the entrance.if no other options are available.

J&B. You have no idea what you're writing about. This is the best way to get rid of bees. Forgers will not come back with new honey. At the end, the queen will leave the nest or die of hunger. With no more honey there will be no more eggs and no new bees.

Exactly..I'll poof a couple applications of Sevin dust over layied with borlic acid, when the queen starts to lay eggs, they hatch, same problem but as they travel threw the sevin dust..they bring it back to the nest, track it,spread it threw out the nest,so the queen will get a share of the poisoning, the whole colony will be destroyed from their share of the strong odor, poisoning of sevin dust.. proven results.. 4 bees colony,in wall void.4 separate treatments a week apart..yes it did destroy the queen, the whole colony..

Kylah Flowers sevin dust or droin dust will solve that problem..sevin dust,it's very powerful, the same problem will repeated itself until the cycle is broken..to get the queen..poofed a couple of applications of sevin dust in their entrance way.the sevin dust ,it is very strong, poisoning.
