Jackson's points being shot down constantly was really annoying, especially on a podcast labeled the Epstein Island special. Jackson had a good point about one of them possibly blowing the whistle and it was played off as a joke, there is no reason why this could be seen as unbelievable.
I think Jackson is in charge of the titles, it is lame though he's been like "bullied" for like 6 years that the podcast has been going on xD.

They do it a lot yeah and I don't like it. It is a joke usually but Jackson has a lot of good points and they just dunk on them because he is Jackson it feels like haha.
It's weird when Jackson tries to prompt Charlie to continue or even be present in the conversation of a certain topic and Charlie is a contrarian or dismissive and then literally that week he'll make a video where he talks at length about whatever happened with funny word play and metaphors and shit like that, it's just odd to see. Even nowadays, at most Charlie is just like "I made a video about this." and then leaves it at that or says the least he can about said topic.

@xandergonzo4853 The red thread podcast seems to be different. Charlie seems more engaged, and it's great how Jackson gets more of a spotlight he is a big reason why I keep watching.
ABOUT DUBS...
· The classic way to solve characters already speaking in the dubbed language they use in Spanish dubs is using a strong accent. For example, Puss in Boots in Spanish just has a deep Spanish southern accent.
· You can also just change the language in a way that still makes sense. Terminator's "Hasta la vista, baby" is "Sayonara, baby" in the Spanish because they found a way to keep it foreign to the characters but still reasonable.
· Another example is how "motherfucker" usually becomes "hijo de puta" (son of a bitch) in Spanish dub because it's a way to level how intense the swearing is supposed to be.
· The dated localized jokes are golden when corny enough. I'll always remember how they made Salem the Cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch mention Julio Iglesias and Raphael instead of Richard Simmons and Liberace. Tremendous switch, really dated nowadays.
Another thing with dubs is that they have to match the lip flaps on the animation. One to one translations cant work as they mouth either opens and closes to much or not enough.
Alot of the older naruto games suffered from this as they did one to one instead of changing the words
Two instances of localization that I really enjoy are for the old DS Pokemon games and for another old DS game called Fossil Fighters, the puns that were used in each of the games as well as how understandable they were for like an 11 or 12-year-old kid are part of what really made me enjoy them
Fossil fighters was my shit, I got stuck in the temple trap for months until I found someone with another copy and went back the area to see how to get out, childhood favorite
Re the AI Magic card art discussion, I think Andrew is giving WotC way too much credit. They 100% knew they were putting out AI art and were just hoping nobody would notice they were cutting corners.

Charlie spoke about it on his channel when he referenced Mutahars video but I’m not aware as far as the other people. The “list” at this point is just referring to everyone who was connected to Epstein and knew about his actions and may have even partook in them as well.

Imagine AI translation gets to the point where animes can be dubbed and still have the "original voice actors" tone and "voice". People shit on anime dubs cuz they are often an afterthought if done at all, sometimes coming out sounding awkward done by another person reading a translated script. So.. maybe potential?
I like how the localization Jackson reads is directly from Trails into Reverie lmfao. As someone who has played the series, the localizations only gotten more... favored as the games went on due to the localizer switch from Xseed to NIS. It isn't necessarily *too* egregious, but I can see it being problem in the future if not toned down and ironed out better.

that artist quiting was not an overreaction, it was a protest against that fact that wotc just before christmass fired a lot of staff including artists from the promo team. and now it turned out a promo picture was made with ai art. so they essentially replaced artists with ai.
As someone who played magic for 10 years, the game and WotC is in the worst state they've ever been in. It's been a steady slide downhill for several years now. Not to mention the 30th year anniversary. I've sold most of my cards and selling the rest when my LGS is buying cards again soon. Just print out proxies and play the game that way, it's all just overpriced cardboard anyways.

Hopefully true, recent eps have been lowkey insufferable. I'm overstating my hate but I swear the podcast is just falling off and more and more the boys just seem either, a.) tired b.) in a bad mood or c.) just not at all interested in the topic of conversation. Think it partially has to do with the fact that they cover negative news and information so much more than they do positive stuff.
As an artist though I can understand why that high profile artist left the company, especially with alot of studios trying to sneak ai in to replace most of the artist on the teams. It's upsetting and scary to even know it's being used in your field cause it plants the idea of "I might be getting replaced soon"

As someone who has done art for around 20 years now I totally get why they quit. If you saw the shit show on art sites that are supposed to be a place for pros even if you saw that at your job you would be rightfully pissed.
As someone who’s trying to learn to draw I understand why people are angry about AI (I did before, just trying to learn out it into a whole new perspective). It’s a slap to the face that a company you’ve worked for years just to toss you away and attempt to use AI to cut artist costs.

clearly none of them read even a bit of the documents that was released or have any clue to why certain people was on the island, or know what the island was used for. I love the show, but the amount of research within the epstein documents was very little it was clear as day.

i actually use my tablet along with ai art :p don't get me wrong its still bad marketing for them cause they want something cheap and fast but even if it becomes obsolete for drawing, people will still buy them cause of osu
I'm really glad Andrew brought up a more nuanced take on the whole localization issue. I have a degree in translation and these are exactly the types of issues we were taught how to deal with. In my personal opinion, a good localization will leave the same impression on the target audience as the original had on the original audience.
For example, the patriarchy comments are really overstepping if it changes the meaning completely. However, if there had been some hidden hint or message that an English speaking audience wouldn't catch but a Japanese audience would, I don't think it would be wrong to add a nod to it in a way that retains the original _intention_, if not the form. If you keep all the oddities of the source language (such as the myriad of omissions that Japanese communication entails), you may end up with something so unintelligible or unnatural that it's no longer enjoyable to read/watch.

@@vsimp2956 the AI translation is incomprehensible, unless edited, and even then it's usually wrong or just very dry (see random visual novel translations). So yes, it is still lying to you anyway. Low IQ, just like Kaya.
@@vsimp2956 Especially with how good Machine Translations have gotten. The Magus Bride translation is really damn good, once the other companies see all they need is an AI and a single guy to oversee it, the localizers are absolutely cooked.

I think as well it all depends on if your a fan or not because I’ve always loved AvP I’ve played all the games read the comics watched the films so for me seeing them together is great, it’s the same with marvel I loved the comics so seeing those crossovers is amazing to me but for someone who isn’t a fan it’s just another super here film and that’s it

When it comes to food advertising; almost every single cereal add that shows milk in a bowl is actually using white glue (school glue, Elmer’s glue) in place of milk. They also use a platform that need a layer of the glue to hold up the cereal, making it “float” in a controlled way.
Food advertising is near inherently false advertising because 95% aren’t even using food for the advertisement - and when they do, it’s substitutes. They use paints and resins instead of soups - but even the actual fruits are painted and encased. Your “ketchup” might actually be a cherry syrup or something like that, because it holds up better in the photo shoot. The “melty chocolate” is actually honey with food coloring.

47:50 I didn't expect Trails to be indirectly mentioned on the Official Podcast so this is a surprise haha. There is probably a middle ground for localization but some lines get a bit too far and the opposite sides hate each other so much that discussion can"t ever be healthy unfortunately. I'd rather games I play to be closer to the original intent but that may be because I'm not American and localization is not targeted towards me (I'd play an American game if I wanted American expressions).
The problem is there ISNT a middle ground. There are only one normal side, no actual localizing side, and then a bunch of psychopaths.
The sides that exist are "just translate it" and "We need to change all the characters and stories and motivations". The localizers are narcissists who want to push politics and if you go to their Twitter they DESPISE japan and are usually outright racist against the Japanese.
We are in a situation where the questionable moral fans who want translations are being smeared despite being objectively better than the racists trying to change everything and call it localization. There is no side that just wants simple localization, regardless of if you think localizers should exist. (Personally I don't think they should.
