Rider Phil Anderson once said about Bernard Hinault 'He's so strong its unbelievable. I got the character to win, but I haven't got the strength Hinault's got. He's a true leader. Hinault was not tall in height, but he had so much stamina.

Finishing a full five minutes ahead of the next rider on the stage up the Alpe d'Huez...Hinault and Lemond clearly were the best, and when we see so many sprint finishes in today's TDFs, winning margins of only fractions of a second, not multiple minutes, we have to say that they were probably the greatest two talents of all time.

Couldn’t have said it better…this made me an amateur rider beside my studies for 6 years. Also the early-mid 90s were a fantastic time in professional cycling. These characters…albeit tainted with doping but today and the 2010s to a certain degree a far cry from these riders.

Robert Millar living a lie! I wonder what he may have achieved if he could have embraced his true self?!
