No, actually he didn’t. He had taken the car out of gear to shut the engine off and bring it to a stop. These cars don’t have starters, just an in/out gear box so when they bring one to a stop like that it isn’t possible to hit the throttle and “blow oneself up.” The flare up you see is simply oil being released from the engine, probably due to back pressure from the engine stopping so suddenly.
@@robbiddlecombe8392 That sucks that they don't come to your area more often .The supers are awesome to watch...I grew up in and still reside in Northern Ohio..My Grandfather owned a sprint car and ran it in the supermodified class back in the 70's and 80's..and also ran it in USAC sprint division during the 70's....in fact his team won the 1975 USAC sprint car national championship with Larry Dickson as driver.....Those were good times...Well I was just a kid back then ...but great memories!
@@robbiddlecombe8392I have been to many supermodified races live over the years, and yes- you can actually FEEL them go by in your seat. They ran an exhibition event in 1995 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (believe me, they found out quickly it wasn’t the place for them). Ten cars, a one mile track… and the entire front stretch stands vibrated like crazy when they came by at speed.
Thank you i was there for the first one. Thanks

24:32 driver hits the throttle, could have blown himself up

damn, fire is always scary!
That track is far too small for those cars
These are the types of tracks they run on all the time...
