This is a great idea... I work full-time outside the home. I'm way too tired at the end of the day. I have Multiple Sclerosis I battle fatigue all the time. I will setup a routine like thismy husband can't cook much but just an hour a day would work for me
I appreciate your effort to put your own spin on an established routine. I love the original system, but we all have different living spaces and different lifestyles. NOTHING should be so 'cookie-cutter'!
I'm so glad I can help at all. There is so much to do all the time, I think we all feel it sometimes. The best we can do is make a plan and try it out. 👍

I must have been living under a rock, but I just discovered this system through Diane of Denmark. The funny thing about that is that I live in GA and the Fly Lady is in NC - so close, but had never heard of her. I’m waiting for my book to arrive and found your video helpful to anticipate how I might approach this system. I found your video very helpful. Thank you.
You did a really nice job. Thank you for sharing. Like you, I am passionate about homekeeping and staying organized. When I watched your video, I thought of how lucky your family was to have you since your routines help keep such a peaceful home. I have followed Flylady for years and decided to remake my Control Journal; the one I made years ago was way too large. The things I added this time were: 1) a Seasonal Checklist- I have a fall checklist in there now that I have refined to fit my house and I will do the tasks each week or so over a two month period. I am working on a seasonal checklist for the other seasons. 2) Errand page- Previously, I just listed these items on Sunday in my planner since my errand day was on Monday and then I could refine it on Monday morning in order of furthest to closest distance from my home. 3) I have a page for my ex-husband who helps me with handyman tasks. I put everything on that page and he installs things for me.😁 4) A Flight Plan page in front that lists the "Week of:", "Monthly Focus:Paper Clutter", "Weekly Zone: the Kitchen" and then I list Monday to Friday with the plan/general guideline or flight plan of the day. (I have established all of the habits by now but secretly get excited for the paper clutter one since I can shred! I don't have any piles anywhere but a lot of medical in notebooks for my severely disabled son that needs purging.)So mine reads: Monday- Grocery/Errand Tuesday-Appointments Wednesday- Garbage and Anti-Procrastination Day Thursday- Calls Friday-Loose Ends and Pamper Day Saturday- Extra Cleaning Sunday- Sleep and Project Day And finally, the tabs on my notebook are: Flight Plan, Daily Routine (just one page with all routines on it), Focus Cleaning (daily clean items with one room each day of the week, think BWP), Zone Cleaning, Seasonal Cleaning, Menu Plan, Grocery List, Errands, and my handyman tasks for my ex-husband. Hope this helps. I love seeing how others do their control journal as well.
I have 5 kids so i assign each kid a new zone a week so all zones get cleaned each week ...we use it for their chore system and that way its even and everyone can do everything
Thank you for training up your children. My motto is independence from the womb; what you can do for yourself then you should be doing. Also it teaches them how to work cooperatively and how to care for others. We are raising them to be adults. Great job.
Ha! Ha! "None of your beeswax." Loved that. I'm getting closer to starting my own version of The Fly Lady method. Years (okay, decades) of only cleaning when it got so bad no one was allowed in my house, well, that's over. I need an organized cleaning routine. Upon my death, I don't want to leave a cluttered mess for my family to deal with. I'm 61 so I will have a while to enjoy my clean and organized house.
U know after seeing ur video ur right i was wondering about the fridge i CANNOT do that just once a month i even end up putting it on my anti procrastination day because it gets so grungy i will implement the daily zones thank you!
I love the idea of fly lady but struggle with only hitting each room once a month as well. I kind of need a daily routine because otherwise I'm just going to fall out of routine and things won't get done. I like your idea of hitting a different room/zone each day and it all gets done in a week. That makes much more sense to me. I'd rather spend an hour each day in each area vs. 1 hour a week all over the house and 15 mins a day in each zone afterward. I feel like there is just too much to do in a house this size to only clean 15 mins a day. We homeschool too! Your morning routine notes were helpful and similar to what I do in the morning as well. :)
I've not seen the free day before. Tuesday is Plan and Play day for menu planning so you can grocery shop on Thursday. This is new to me. I've changed my zone cleaning to similar tasks cleaning...like dusting/cleaning all ceiling fans in one day as I have the step stool out etc. My attempt to work smarter.
Totally agree to each their own. I do flylists. I'm more of a list person anyways. So I do a list on the fly of stuff to do. If I get it all one great, if I only get one thing done great. I procrastinate some when I'm home after work so this works. And its subject to schedule so if im out all day due to schedule difference I'll skip that day and start the list the next day.
Absolutely! Everyone's life is different and our lives change a lot. It's good to be flexible for sure. This is just where I was when I made this video and now life is a little different for me so my routines are a little different too. :)
I'm building my control journal now and I had to modify a lot of the zones and the weekly flight plan, like for example my weekly blessing home hour is on Fridays because I don't have to cook on Friday and I can clean the house during lunch time (I work from home). I'm sure I'll be making a lot of more modifications as I go but that's ok Marley said you can adapt to fit your life style.
In the weekly homeblessing hour you feather dust the whole house every week but deep clean your zone. Only when in zone do you need to take apart book shelves . Feather dusting gets up all the dust.
Michelle Kulas this and other chores like it, are why I do my zones once a week. When I followed Flylady there were areas that didn't get dusted every week because they were not in that schedule. Its important to take whatever system you like and make it work for you. Is dusting every room part of the weekly home blessing? I guess that's essentially what I do. I love Flylady but definitely had to make little edits. 😉
Note that the WHB as FlyLady promotes it is a quick feather-dusting every week of just the flat surfaces; the she does the deep cleaning...move and dust items during zone cleaning. WHB is just a spruce it up so it “looks” good, then thoroughly clean during zone cleaning. The WHB just makes it go a little quicker when you get to the zone. All that said, I love the idea of Zone-A-Day cleaning. Not any more work, just laid out a little better for me.
@@blessedwifeandmama yes. That's been pointed out a few times now and I can't change the video. It's also been suggested that the dusting that is part of the weekly home blessing is more of a light dusting / surface clean and not a 'move everything out of the way and dust behind it' kind of dusting.
@@blessedwifeandmama yes. that can be done with the right, light (and magnetic) duster anyway. it should hold for a week. I always did that - I am new to the Fly Lady system, but that dusting part at least I did and it does work very fast. depending on how much delicate items you have on your shelfs and how much you have to dust around. I don't have that much. but with a light federy duster even that is not that big a deal. apart from that dusting thing, I like May's control journal and how she handles it.

Hello! That's a great question. My father actually suffers from arthritis and some of their health issues as well. He has chosen to break up his day into different sections of each zone. So if he is cleaning his kitchen on Mondays for example instead of doing a solid hour at once he will do 15 minutes four times throughout the day with breaks in between. Diane has been my biggest inspiration in FLYING though I have been a Larva ever since the pre-beginning; just never caught the full vision which is actually “do what works for you, but be sure and DO IT! The secret is to make yourself a routine you can follow and stick to it, adapting it for your life as you move through it’s different seasons. And try to have fun and bless yourself, your family, and your home with your improved attitude of what housework and running a home is or can be. And I am still working on the attitude part all the time. And seeing things come together puts a smile on my face, and my family benefits are huge.

Yup! He works and travels for work a lot so that I can be home with the children. He also does all the vehicle and home maintenance, deals with appointments, manages bills and all our household and family related paperwork. When he is home, he spends time with the kids and is usually the carpool dad for events they go to. 👍 He's awesome! We both work hard and support each other in different ways, I couldn't do what I do without him. 💕

@@mrsshankdesigns thank you so much May I will try to work like that and I have only a very small cottage here in Ireland but could never get away with a brief dust! I'm going to do my zones like you suggest from now on. Please make more videos as they are such a help to people like me. God bless you!
I love this thankyou ,👍👍👍👍joy
Thanks for sharing, check out Diane in Denmark, l think you’ll love her too.
Thanks for the recommendation! I looked her up and you're right, she's great!
Did you make a meal planning with Pinterest video? I browsed through, but didn't see one.
I didn't but I should really get on that!
@@mrsshankdesigns I'm looking forward to seeing it 🙂
I dust weekly as part of my weekly home blessing hour. If it’s ending up as two hours, it’s not a big deal to me.
Ditto on once a week
I just watched your flylady 101 week 1 check in video & really liked it, I also subscribed! I was really looking forward to this video but it doesn't have closed captioning :( I am legally deaf & there's no other way for me to hear what you're saying. Could you PLEASE add cc to this video? Thanks so much,
Tami
tammy brewster yes!! Absolutely I will do it for as many videos as I can, starting with this one. Thank you for watching and pointing that out. 👍
It's not showing up as of now, but I surely do look forward to it. Could you please contact/message me back once it's on? Thanks a million, Tammy
tammy brewster yes I will. I made sure CC was turned on for every video but for some reason, this one needs to be transcribed and I will do that this afternoon and leave you a note here again. 👍
Geez! Does your partner do anything?
This video is incorrect about monthly dusting.
Dusting IS weekly, “weekly home blessing hour”.
Note item 7, Monday’s.
You're absolutely correct. I will have to make a new video with an update.
Swiffers make it possible.
That’s not right. Home blessing is once a week including dusting. It’s just a deeper in the zone you are in.
You're totally right. Someone pointed it out to me after I posted this. 👍
