Secular Tv and music thing to me is very much blown out of proportion. I have had full breakdowns over it bc I feel so bad and unworthy about those things. But when I think about it God blesses us with worldly things bc we live in the world. We can enjoy those things as long as it produces good fruit in our spirit and we don’t worship it or think it can save us and as long as we remember who is in charge. I think that sentiment is very legalistic and is what causes Christian like me on a spiritual journey to be in full breakdown mode.

One thing that got me, was in older scriptures that women weren't allowed to be in public while having a menstrual cycle. Originally I personally believe that some dealt with hygiene. This was before pads and plumbing. So, we all know what its like to run out of supplies... but Jesus still blessed the woman who was on her period for YEARS. He acknowledged her and wished her well. He felt pity for those who were cast aside. There are things that I don't like, but it's found outside of religion too. Hypocrisy and greed. You gotta find a balance with God and Jesus and the people around you. They are love but also don't like things that are bad. At least I see it that way.

i'm only a few minutes in but i absolutely hate the way he said "justin's wife hailey" as if she's not her own person.
a little bit more into this and i just really wanna know, what do these people do all day? do they never watch non religion based movies/tv shows? speak with anyone outside of their little bubble? how two grown people can seemingly be so close-minded is beyond me. i grew up catholic, went through all my sacraments, and feel i still have a relationship with God even though i no longer go to church regularly. however, i have never been able to understand this type of fanatical christianity. for these two to be so about "the word of God" and only doing what "the word" says, they're extremely judgmental which is really frowned upon in this almighty "word" they speak of.
newsflash morgan and paul, the way you interpret the bible is not the way everyone interprets it. the relationship you have with God is uniquely yours. stop trying to force everyone into the same relationship.

To be fair, no one knows what the lovers in Song of Solomon looked like. So screened sex scenes are more graphic than erotica. Having said that, the woman in Song of Solomon fell in love with him when he already had dozens of wives, and I don't see Paul and Morgan complaining about that. But if there's a sex scene on TV between two people, who might even be married in the script (historical dramas mainly) and they judge that. I respect where they're coming from, and even somewhat agree with it,, but there is inconsistencies.

why do they think that they are allowed to gatekeep Christianity? who the hell are they? everyone interprets things differently. if someone doesn't practice religion the way that you do, it doesn't make them bad Christian's. they're so judgemental and snobby, i can't take it. what happened to God being the only person allowed to judge us? as a Catholic, i'm sure they would disagree with me identifying as such because i like to wear tight dresses, short skirts, low cut tops, bikinis, etc, but the God that i believe in doesn't care about what i wear or what i look like. He cares about me as a person, and the kindness, compassion, and empathy i have and show.

"He that is without sin, cast the first stone", "Judge not that ye be not judged", "love thy neighbor as thyself", "bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you." "...the Lord looks on the heart", and "I the Lord will forgive who I will forgive, but it is required of you to forgive all men" are all I want to say as a gentle reminder to these people. They are right that Christ is about love, but more than that. Christ wants his followers to be the bigger people. He wants them to turn the other cheek, to be meek and humble. Ranting about how other people aren't living up to your moral standards and calling them out on it doesn't fit that description.
I understand they think they're in the right, pointing out all the flaws in Hailee Bieber's conversation. But at the end of the day, what did that accomplish other than painting themselves as "holier than thou" Christians? Which, in my opinion only cements people's negative experience with Christians like them. I think that deters more people away from their beliefs than encourages them to investigate further.

What gives anyone the right to tell someone how they walk through their own life’s journey, “you’re doing it wrong/ Nope! you’re beliefs aren’t valid/ unless you do it my way you’re going to hell” ? Regardless of the specific programming, television, film, and all the companies adjacent to them, are in the business of making money. Christian or not, this is the livelihood of all participants.

I love that you use the Samaritan woman as an example because she’s also an example of how yes, in Paul and Morgan’s eyes, Jesus would’ve been giving up his righteousness because him even speaking to someone who had five husbands and was living with a man would be the equivalent of a sex scene. Of course, Paul and Morgan use the Bible for their own benefit instead of looking up context, understanding the actual definitions or doing any research whatsoever. It also seems so convenient that they completely forgot that, while they are Biblical literalists, Paul literally says it should be all things to all people.

I’m new-ish to your content. I was raised evangelical, and now definitely consider myself more spiritual than anything. But I definitely appreciate your take as a progressive Christian. One thing I’ve noticed (in both this video and with Hannah, discussing the Covid vaccine) was this weird verbal frey that she and Morgan get when they are about to be ultra critical. Dramatics on high. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ There’s this whole tone of “oh not really judging, but I really am.” A big reason why I stopped associating myself with traditional religion was these kind of people. Where it’s almost like they are upset that they don’t get to sin, so they sit around and have discourse about the way that other people are living their lives rather than turning their focus in word towards their own application of faith. I’m really glad that you brought up the fact that in a lot of sects women are not able to preach. One of the last churches that I went to when I lived in Houston Texas was one of those, the only place within the church for a woman was facilitating Sunday school or volunteering in the office or in some other traditional role. Not even the pastors wife was allowed to speak or be acknowledged in that way. A lot of these women that have platforms in around their faith would be pretty upset if we were going by that standard.

A part of me genuinely wonders if part of why Morgan seems *so* increasingly incensed & agitated - even more so than Paul - at Hailey & Yvonne, is *fear* regarding examining her own relationship with Christianity. Because if Hailey & Yvonne *can* in fact have an authentic relationship with Christ *as they understand Him* - that looks different than hers - while maintaining a greater degree of female equity & autonomy (hint: they absolutely CAN), that risks forcing her to examine how much of her own autonomy & her *individual* personal relationship with G-d that she's "submitted" to Paul. Which I imagine might be terrifying.

The whole believing in the correct God of the bible is interesting to me because I was raised Catholic and since its so structured most Catholics generally believe the same things. It always puzzled me how churches of the same protestant sect would have the same veiws without the same massive chain of command. (And I'm sure that there is some type of leadership structure there, I am just unaware of any). And it makes sense to me for the pope to say "this is the God of the bible that Catholics believe" because he is the head of the church. It seems weird and a little self important for Paul and Morgan to be declaring that their interpretation is the only interpretation. Especially since I thought the whole protestant movement initially started so that people could interpret the bible themselves in their language rather than being told what to believe by the priests who could read Greek and Latin.

I wonder if Paul and Morgan realize how much of their rhetoric they preach can be turned on its head and used to question their opinions. They talk so often about how being challenged and having difficult conversations is good, but they continually dismiss challenges made against their own beliefs and neglect to have the hard conversations that do need to be had, not just the ones they want to talk about.
This video of theirs makes me angry for so many reasons, and it's difficult to temper that anger and get to a place of respect for them, but ultimately it just makes me so sad. If we can't meet one another where they're out and extend a hand of unconditional love, then what good is any witness we may make? Jesus wasn't so concerned with whether or not people were following the Law to the letter as much as he was concerned about people's mindset and attitude. The way I put it is that Jesus focused more on rectifying sins of the heart as opposed to the more "tangible" sins. Rectifying the former will always lead to rectifying the latter, but not vice versa (case in point: the Pharisees)
I could rant for much longer, but I don't want to talk anyone's ears off. Thank you for making this video, B; it's a breath of fresh air to hear someone address the nuances to their conversation that they neglect to address themselves.

Not as a believer, but as someone with a Literature degree the whole "this is Not the god of the bible" irks me soooo much. At the end of the day, the bible is a Text. The second you read the Text, you will Interpret it. More than that, the bible is so old and has been translated so many times that different bibles will ultimately present you with slightly different translations. so almost by Default, even if you actively read the bible from start to finish, people will have different takes. Because different people interpret a Text differently. Now, you can argue in which ways you can support your interpretation by using the Text. You can build an argument for your View of the bible. You CANNOT say that your interpretation is the ultimately correct one over all the other ones.
Im German, the German bible (luther bible) is a modern Print of a 16th century Translation from the ancient hebrew (old Testament) and greek Texts (new Testament). Which was done against The wished of the catholic church. The King James bible was published in the early 17th century and translated from hebrew, greek and Latin. It also came with specific instructions by King James to ensure it adhered to his conventions. Just by the Nature of their production, those two bible translations will be slightly different, and so might be your takeaway from it.
And each modern bible translation will be very different from the original texts. Acting like the bible is a Monolith and a definite work that will only give you one single Version of god is just not realistic and turning it into an absolutism is harmful and dismisses all congregations that arent yours.
Sorry, rant over.... The whole "the bible says x because i Said so" Thing just... Annoys me. A lot.

I have a Literature and Language degree and I am annoyed by this too. I don't have a problem people discussing the spirit of a verse but direct quotes don't fly for me.
When someone tries to quote a verse to pick on certain words I find that disturbing. If you cannot quote the original don't get hung up on single words and expressions. You are not following the word of God but of a translator.

This video ercks me ,who are they to judge someone on their belief or version of God? Everyone follows and worships differently the Bible and teaching are subject to interpretation person to person ,telling someone they worship wrong is dangerously , I'm not religious but I was raised to be and they are incredibly judgey I always found people in church to be very accepting and it feels like they are on a " I'm a better Christian than you" route and I'm sure there is far more in the bible with regards to judgements than cursing . I see them also using sex and intimate relationships as an evil when that is so damaging its hard enough to live in a world with temptations all ready with out being afraid of natural feelings and desires xx

They are conflating absolute truth with personal life convictions. There are absolute truths about God and what it means to be a Christian, and then we are each personally called to certain convictions that make our walk with Christ as purposeful as possible. Not every Christian is called to the same personal convictions - drinking, language, etc. We are only called to be aware that our convictions can be a stumbling block to others in their convictions. Making absolute truths of convictions is legalism.

You know honestly the more I re-watched Paul and Morgan's video the more I want to do a response to this. It's just so stupid. First of all: Evon is not saying that she curses or has pre-marital sex in real life she is ACTING.
This would be like if I went up the actor who played Thanos in Infinity war and said "Hey man, look....you really shouldn't have such a flippant attitude towards life" - everybody would think I was an idiot and rightly so.
If Christians can't act like bad guys then we should just stop telling stories.....because every story has to have a bad guy even in the Bible.

I'm honestly surprised Paul dislikes swearing so much considering I've heard him use "triggered" so many times. Which has become an ablist slur for people with PTSD (survivors pf human trafficking like myself or veterans, among many others) to minimize a symptom that causes frequent hospitalizations, physical brain damage that can be seen on scans, (and I've even had loved ones die from them) down to being mad so people can't get the help they need or be taken seriously, so the cycle of abuse continues. Think similar to the R word being weaponized against the disabled. Is it just curses that don't cause harm he doesn't like?

Paul and Morgan make me wanna throw my bible away lol the way they frame faith and Christianity makes it sound like a fucking drag. I can’t imagine being so judge mental of other people’s lives. Like if Paul and Morgan want to live in a world where God is just checking on your every move and keeping track of all of your “wrong doings” then they are free to do so, but that’s not what being a Christian should mean in my opinion. The gospel isn’t meant to force us into living in fear of judgment, it’s meant to be good news that Jesus died for us, God is forgiving and loving. Paul and Morgan are just privileged and willfully ignorant.

I've been binge-watching your videos and normally I don't comment on years-old content, but my goodness, I couldn't help it on this one.
    1. The term s*xual immorality as it is used in fundie-adjacent circles doesn't fully describe the contexts in which those passages were written.
Based on the context cues in the original languages, the s*xual immorality that both Jewish people and Christians were told to flee from were sins in which one person had an unbalanced sense of power over the other.
They mainly involve SA, ab*se and exploitation of children and teens (both boys and girls,) lewdness involving animals, adulterous affairs, spiritual (and political) leaders corrupting/exploiting their subjects for s*xual purposes, lecherous and lewd behaviour towards people in public, and using SA against one's enemies as a weapon of war.
I recognize that not everyone has the time or the means to learn how to read the Bible in the original languages, but it really helps with expanding one’s understanding of the text so it's easier to avoid making broad declarations about the text that is devoid of context and understanding the culture/history behind it.
(Also, there's no tension for Yvonne regarding her faith in Christ and her doing spicy scenes as an actor because she's publicly/proudly a virgin and is saving herself for marriage/committed to her beliefs.)
Anyway, keep up the great work. The depth of knowledge you have and the compassion with which you share it is obvious and makes you a great companion to listen to as I go about my day.
