Notes: Track names from hidden sound test menu. "WARNING OF PUYOPUYO" is cut short and faded out at the end as the actual track continues increasing in pitch until it is silent and then rolls over to low notes again. In theory this is possible to hear in game by staying in the "danger state" for long enough but generally you will either lose the match or recover before it plays that long--so I left it out. - เกม

Most Puyo Puyo games tend to have great soundtracks. Even Madou Monogatari for Mega Drive sounds good.

Far from the last game on the Mega Drive--came out in 1992 in Japan. I believe a Super Famicom conversion came a bit later.

Retro Gaming Guitarist, Puyo Puyo is basically on just about everything back in the day, surprised it isn't on the modern consoles. The last re-issue of the game was on the Wii I believe, or at least the second game was (that game is pretty much on just about everything).

What an incredible soundtrack. The limitations of that time didn't put any limits against the effort put here actually. Nowadays they don't put any effort to the soundtrack, or they don't even put a soundtrack, and care more about the graphics.

you're both right. there was a lot of trash back in the day, but there was also quite a few games with very gifted composers who knew how to really push the limits of the soundchips. now that systems have the resources to use recorded audio tracks for music, they're mostly drumming up whatever gets the job done, but there's still great stuff like halo and mario galaxy.
Octopath traveller, halo, shadows of adam, just a few ive played recently that have music so good i stopped the game at points just to listen
Absolutely adore this soundtrack. For a cute and simplistic puzzle game, it goes unreasonably hard.

Wasn't this game ported to the West has Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine? I recognize the Final of Puyo Puyo has the 2 Player theme from that game.
It was. The localization was pretty drastic but it kept some of the music, in a slightly rearranged form. They're different enough I might upload Dr. R's too someday.

Now that you mention, the music in the US version is a bit more... rough (that may be because of the emulator used in the videos I listen, but I'm not sure). Regardless it would be great if you could upload the Robotnik's soundtrack to truly listen to the differences.

6. Sunset of Puyo Puyo plays during the credits.
There are unused versions of Brave of Puyo Puyo and Theme of Puyo Puyo that you can only hear in the game's sound test.

How does a puzzle game have such a good soundtrack!! I really wish sega hadn't made almost all models of the mega drive/genesis with such shit sound chips. The original model 1 chips sound so good
you can barely tell the difference unless you listen on a good hifi stereo or with headphones
@@queercommunist Nah. My old model 2 sounded god awful on tv speakers. A friend had a model 1 and I had to upgrade to it as well.

It's weird hearing the Dr. Robotnik tunes rendered differently, or rather vice versa. I think the localization team did a great job and they're better tracks in Mean Bean Machine vs the original source game.

Despite the many remixes and arrangements of Satan's theme over the years, the original is still the unhinged king of this series music. that guitar solo alone is the most raw and rich thing I've heard on any 16 bit console.
Man. This is *significantly* different from the _Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine_ soundtrack. You wouldn't really think it would be, since they're the same game and all... but the proof is in the pudding, I guess.
Even weirder considering you'd think such sinister and foreboding themes would have suited Sega of America's tastes better than what they got...
I started with Kirby's Avalanche back in 1995, discovered years later that Mean Bean Machine game was the same thing... and that they both originated from this. funny how both of those games got [unique from each other] music from this. I still prefer the Mean Bean Machine approach though.
Kirby got the warning theme from Tsu, nothing from this game.

How did MBM do a bad thing to Puyo?? If anything it saved the franchise in the west because if they would've released Puyo Puyo as is, it wouldn't have sold well in the US and the franchise would most likely become obscure. MBMmade everybody love the game

Well if you know of Cardcaptor Sakura, you should also know that it came out in the late nineties too correct? And you should also know about the Genesis well enough to know that came out in the early nineties, because who doesn't know of the SEGA Genesis? Thus, based off common knowledge, you do know about Puyo Puyo being made beforehand but you just did not realize it :)
Medachod Keep in mind I was born in 99, so I lack any knowledge of the nineties. To me 90-99 is lumped together as nineties.
And CCS manga was made in 96, so technically it *could* have been slightly before a late Genesis title.

Not even close. I think the last official game ever came in 1998.
Switch I believe the last game ever released on the Mega Drive/Genesis was Frogger, which I fondly remember buying at Caldor... before it closed.
I think you are thinking about Madou Monogatari, the one from where the characters come from.
The last game in the squishy splats series on the sega genesis was "Titular Giant Remixed" which released in 1997 and yes it is apart of the series due to it taking place in the same universe as squishy splat and also the game is literally about a cat who learns martial art skills and it kinda acts like a sequel to the game gear games for titular giant.
