Example: create layer 1 with a dozen vertical black lines on a plain white background. Create layer 2 with a dozen horizontal black lines on a plain white background. Can you show both layers together (without either layer covering up the other) so that you see a complete mesh (like on a screen door)?
No. A page is just a container for stack of layers. Every blank page we create comes with a layer already. The objects we draw are on Layer 1 by default. We may create additional layers to organize the objects.
I wish it still worked like this. The latest version looks like 3 steps back from this, can't drag layers above/below others easily. The View/Print/Lock buttons are on the far right now, not the left, so it's hard to follow across to which layer goes with each status, and the buttons aren't always shown, they get hidden, and you have to switch layers to find out if it's visible/print/locked.
Why do the layers collapse when rearranging items im the object manager? They really screwed that up and makes this simple task exceedingly cumbersome.

Later when you wanna edit company information, you can go edit in the master page instead of editing in every copied instances. That's the advantage of having the content in master page. And for why create layers for name and phone, she has chosen a simple example to demonstrate layers. Imagine you have a drawing with hundreds of objects, say for example a vector illustration of a monster. It's effective to put together the objects illustrating eyes in a layer, rest of the face in a layer, and the body in another, for the sake of ease in selecting, editing that particular section.

How to select multiple layers AT ONCE? How to click VISIBLE layers all AT ONCE? How to click EDIT LAYERS all at once?
