Thank you Celso. I trust you are keeping well and inspiring the Rondalla Movement as yu have done. The NUS Rondalla has been disbanded. In it's place is the Singapore Tremolo Strings and they are developing in the Mekong and Straits regions. There are 3 models for the Octet: 14 strings, 10 strings and 8 strings. The training method, repertoire and performances are also developing. I will post information when this becomes active later in 2021. IN the meantime you can view the concert excerpt from the Singapore Tremolo Strings jointly with the Harmonica club in Singapore:

This is another piece by the same group. I am encouraging Singapore Tremolo Strings to expand and create new repertoire. th-cam.com/video/eGMi7x5N9Rs/w-d-xo.html

Thank you Emma. This rondalla has been disbanded. What is rising now is a remodelled professional group called the Singapore Tremolo Strings with 3 models in Octet formation: 8, 10 and 1 strings. There are also 10 such ensembles in training in Indonesia, Thailand , Myanmar and Vietnam. At some point the tutor for this new Tremolo Strings will be available and you can read more. The 14 strings model is a Filipino new design with some basic changes to suit this project.

Don't forget rondalla is a beautiful spanish heritage.

In its present form, this rondalla is considered Filipino creation.

@@celsoespejo908 Yes, actually from my research the actual Spanish musicians (including the church) never really taught the Filipinos in the very early days. Otherwise you would have had the much developed 12 stringed Spanish bandurria. Instead I found that where the rondalla first developed in the central Visayas where the Spanish trading ships (Galleon Trade) came and they played many types of tremolo instruments that one can find easily in South America today. The Visayans crafted instruments that resembled some traits of what they saw from musicians on board these ships from Acapulco but used old and local materials. The museums in some of the major universities have such early collections. More research and publications from the Philippines are needed. What we know well is the way rondalla spread into educational institutions in the 20th century because of government policy.

@ I agree with your observation.
The Philippine plucked string ensemble we call rondalla emerged through the inspiration and strong influence of Spain but was developed as as a distinct Filipino creation.
Always stay safe, with my best regards.

@@celsoespejo908 I see more South American influence (very in-directly). Are there cases of Spanish musicians (or religious) teaching Spanish Rondalla (to your knowledge).?

I don’t know of any such cases.

God Bless You and your family and God Bless Philippines.
