    Hi Heidi, This is a wonderful instructional video!! I love to sprout my wheat berries (and spelt berries too!!) and then dehydrate them and grind them into flour. It is so nice to have sprouted flour that I make myself and that I don't have to buy at a premium!! Love, Mary

      Aloha! Can you prepare your dough without dehydrating? I’d like to be able to soak for 24hrs, rinse, prep dough then let sit again for 24 hours for a no knead artisan bread.

      If you have a KitchenAid stand mixer, they make an attachment grain mill for about $100. Also Mockmill makes a mill designed specifically for the Kitchenaid stand mixer for around $200 that actually grinds using stones (not metal burrs like the Kitchenaid brand). Both are a little more economical than the much more expensive grain mills themselves. And if you're just starting out and want to experiment without spending a lot, a good, inexpensive coffee grinder works, although it does take longer. A lot of it comes down to the type of sifter you use as well. Having a nice fine mesh sifter makes a huge difference. Go for an 80 mesh or more to get something close to an all-purpose flour texture. You can add back what's sifted out to get flour with more fiber. This way you can adjust to exactly what you're shooting for.

    You must be the Energizer Bunny's Sister! Have you tried the ancient wheat called Einkorn. Oh my! I made pancakes and was totally surprised that it could taste so much better than organic whole wheat. Highly recommend trying Einkorn or Emmer Wheat.

      I have been wanting to try it, it is finding it for an affordable price is why I have not yet. I did a look again into Azure Standard, I have yet to order from them because there are no drop points near us and I cannot seem to get one set up here myself (I think they do not want to drive to our remote town), however, I found even with having to pay shipping through UPS, I can get a better price on it through them so I have it in my cart for when I am ready to order

      Without watching this whole video again, I do not recall what method I used for drying, the wood stove or the electric dehydrator (I do both depending on the time of the year) but you can also use a cookie sheet and dry in a low heat oven with the door cracked open

    Hi Heidi, You are so awesome! You answered every question I had before I could ask you. Wheat had started giving me joint pain and it makes my knees hurt. Studying I found the wheat is sprayed with a chemical and then dried into the wheat for the market. You still believe doing your way will help remove the poison? I love bread but I had stopped eating it. If you think I could have a sandwich with the rinsing, and sprouting I will give it a try.

    • @uddercharmsfarm8159
      @uddercharmsfarm8159 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Do t buy sprayed wheat! Your probably talking about glyphosate as the chemical which is some bad stuff! I believe organic does not have this.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is why I only buy organic wheats, not the ones that have been sprayed. I would not guaranty that soaking will remove the toxins

    Could you dehydrate corn in a Nesco dehydrator prior to grinding? I'd like to make Masa (for making tortillas and taco shells), but the corn must first be soaked in lime to make "nixtamalia" and I don't want to grind it wet in my GrainMaker because the burrs are not stainless. But if I could dehydrate the processed corn, that could work!
    So, can corn be dehydrated?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I am sure you can dry the hominy once it is done so that it can grind up for a good masa harina

  • @kerncountyrd5263

    So, I don't have a wood stove. I do have an Excalibur. If I have to use my dehydrator, what temperature and for how long would you recommend?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can use any dehydrator and I have before when I used to soak my grains but did not have a fire going. Since flour is typically baked anyway, I suggest 125°. Length of time will depend on your humidity and your dehydrator. You simply have to keep checking them through the day
