This song has always carried a strange sense of melancholy for me. I don't know if it's just the time in my life that I played it during or some sense of attachment to the game because of how much time I spent on it, but I always felt a sense of sadness from this song, because this was really the last big area in the game. The journey I had gone on with these characters was coming to a close, and I didn't want it to end. I fell in love with the game and its world, a seemingly endless sea of secrets and things to do at my fingertips. Hearing this song in the dark, snowy landscapes of Tantal really made it sink in for me that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a beautiful game, and that this is pretty much the end. Despite its... plentiful... flaws, I love this game with all of my heart. The characters, the world, the music, everything. Even though there is still a heffty chunk of game after Tantal, with the Cliffs/Land of Morytha and the World Tree, Tantal is the last proper settlement in the game. It is, to a certain extent, the last impression of the game's world, and it is a tragic one, with the people living in poverty over the preservation of a false heritage. That tragedy adds so much to the weight of this piece, as the context of the piece changes, I feel. It isn't just melancholy because of the end, now, but now it is also a reminder of the tragic circumstances of the Tantalese.
It is an insanely good OST, with SO many amazing songs. I can’t think of a single song I didn’t like, and I can think of 15 or more that are top tier. Every theme goes so well with its area
I love the Tantal night theme. I can fall right asleep to it. I really like Incoming, battle in the skies above, and those who stand against our path as well.
