  • Ina Pinkney, the Breakfast Queen of Chicago, joins Joyce Graff to speak about Post Polio Syndrome, which can impact someone who survived polio. It tends to occur 20 or more years after the initial illness. In the Western world, polio survivors are mainly seniors today, but in the rest of the world, where polio is more recently eliminated, there are many survivors of polio who are younger and are just entering the danger zone. Many survivors and physicians are working together to learn about this syndrome, and to learn strategies for managing it that they can pass to the younger generation. See especially Polio Health International at post-polio.org and the Rotary Post Polio Syndrome Advocacy Group at / postpoliosyndromeadvoc...

Thank you for this video ! I am a polio survivor. I contacted polio in 1953. I do have post polio and have been having a lot of challenges walking. I thank you for the information. I am using a walker but I feel I am in need of getting a scooter. I was just able to use a cane and it seemed like it changed overnight. I have been very active and now noticing I have to slow down. It’s very hard for family and friends to understand. Thank you again for this video.

Thank you for this valuable information. I loved the video by Dr Hannah on her book Autumn Ghost. Where can I purchase her book? I am a polio survivor (1953) living in Maine.
