      It’s a difficult note because of its placement and doing it in full voice like she wanted to for this song is very tough to execute; that note in particular and especially in a full voice and to keep it in tune on that octave and the next octave up too. Both both octaves E5/E6 in particular are difficult to execute on certain instruments as we’ll definitely on flute, piccolo, Eflat Saxophone and on trumpet. In band on that note the music instructor had to go to almost every student in the symphonic band and guide them individually on trying to perfect that note. And in choir that happened to with our choir professor most of us had to try and sing it in mix voice as belting consistently and in tune was no joke-not easy at at all!

      No one. Absolutely, NO ONE, can belt an E6. It's not at all humanely possible. The only way a person can hit E6 is by head voice/falsetto/whistle register.
      Also, they said high E above *middle* C. Middle C is C4, meaning high E above Middle C is E5.

    They wanted Christina to hit the E5 the way SHE hit it, that's why just anybody wasn't called. Christina's belts tends to be more chesty and less mixed, and maybe that's exactly what they wanted. It's clearly obvious they could've asked others to do it, but they wanted her to hit it.

      Wilmer Pineda Celine Dion is a real singer and a true artist and she’s not hated. I think Christina lacks the likability factor. She is talented, yes, but she’s her own fan. She’s too obsessed with herself that it doesn’t leave room for us to be fans. She’s arrogant and rude to her fans and her team. It’s not jealousy. Christina is not a big star simply because people don’t want to deal with her. She has had MANY chances to go the distance over the past couple decades and she had ruined them all.

    I read it so many years ago that they (producers) consider Celine Dion for this song before the young Christina. But when Christina Aguilera sang in front of the producers, she instantly got the job. Funny how some comments here about Mariah or Whitney could've easily hit the note, it's not just about hitting the high notes, it's about on how you hit it. For a 17-year old, that's impressive!
    PS ; Oh after 22 years, she dropped the new version of Reflection. A semitone lower than the original but so much powerful and soulful. Congratulations, Christina! 👏👏👏

    Reading a lot of comments like "E5 note is not that hard to sing" are you guys for real? They were specifically looking for a singer who can belt E5 in full chest, not mixed. And hitting E5 note or any notes in 5th octave is hard especially in full chest voice.

    • @japaniamanga3191
      @japaniamanga3191 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well if you have proper tranning, even in full voice, you can do it, but i don't think it's just the E5, this song is hard to sing on it's own. So belting throughout the song and then hitting that note that's what is pretty challenging. But just the note on it's own, it's true that it's not that hard when you have proper tranning. But when you don't, yes it seems impossible to sing. So maybe that's why people are saying that.

      That happens when you watch too much Sohyang I mean not like her heady E5s are even pleasing to hear, they're too bland rather. I'd rather anticipate for her chesty yet youthful sounding and easy D5s.

      E5 ISN'T a hard note for a true soprano. Kelly Clarkson or Ariana Grande, for instance, could pop out an E5 in chest voice while hungover and taking a dump. Hell, I'm a tenor and can hit a solid E5 in chest-dominant mix. The fact that she as a girl of 17 struggled to the point that they had to bring in a vocal coach speaks volumes about her natural placement. She's always been a mezzo with an upper head-voice extension.

      Because that's how the song was written. If the singer didn't have the range to hit the notes required as written (and that was the highest, climax note), then they would need to find another singer. Yes, singing it greatly (in a general sense) does not depend on hitting that exact note. Singing it the way the composers desired does.

I would sing in class trying to get a Freestyle Singing Scholarship and for fun, and an E5, E above middle C, and Eb5 is not easy to do, I had to lower it for my voice for the songs back then. Since I am an alto and falsetto mix, and I had to make it an E4 or Eb4, or even an E3 as a 16 year old. 3. It is not easy to do, watch footage online of the Backstreet Boys rehearsing, Kevin and Howie D. since they are at the extremes. 4. She recorded harder songs after this: 1. O Holy Night 2. Yea plenty of professional singers can do it with “ease” but that doesn’t just come out of nowhere, it takes talent, persistence and drive. An E5 is a high belt and shouldn’t be scoffed at. How are y’all gonna tell people who actually do music for a living that singing that high isn’t hard? Lol just because you can hit the note don’t mean nothing. I don’t think anyone is understating how hard it is to belt an E5 or discrediting Christina’s talent. The main point I’m seeing here is that for a soprano like Christina, an E5 shouldn’t have been that hard of a note to belt to begin with. I mean, she belted a G#5 in Lady Marmalade. In terms of her tessitura placement, an E5 is right on her sweet spots. It’s even more impressive that she was able to actually belt the E5 considering that she really never had a solid belting technique which would’ve allowed her to belt with a lot more ease.

  • @Sloppyjoey1

    E5 isn’t hard for a soprano but the distinction is in “full voice”. Most non sopranos are in mix by D to E5

  • @becauseisaidso92
    @becauseisaidso92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    The reason she struggles with E5
    Is that when she belts
    She doesn’t use her light original and authentic Soprano voice
    But instead
    To create a much bigger voice and larger sound she does this chesty belting voice that is much much darker and heavier than her real voice
    You can notice the difference between her modal voice (speaking voice) and singing voice
    It’s just because she doesn’t use her real tone

    Is nobody going to address the fact that the song doesn’t even have an E5 but an Eb5? (Literally a entirely different note/pitch/frequency/sound for anyone not familiar with those terms) This has always bugged me. And then for the clip they showed of her singing the note live, she was flat 😑 … and they said they were “relieved” she hit it… 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Man ..if they wanted E5 they could have easily ask Mariah at that time

    • @blakegillpuente3904
      @blakegillpuente3904 6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Mariah had already done "When You Believe" with Whitney Houston for The Prince of Egypt Soundtrack that same year for a different company (Dreamworks, I think?), so they probably didn't want to ask her to sing a song for Disney, too. But Whitney or Mariah would have been incredible, too! I'm actually surprised Christina claimed to have trouble hitting the E5, since during her early career it seemed like E5-F#5 was her sweet spot/go-to that she can't really do as much. Usually now, she lowers the key in Beautiful to bring the G5 (may be an F#5) down to an E5 which seems to still be pretty comfortable for her.

      Angel Johnson I doubt it- she's hit well beyond that in full chest voice, especially in her prime (90's). Her Christmas album is a pretty good vocal showcase (Jesus, What a Wonderful Child is a great example).

      Blake Gill Puente I think they wanted a Stronger and sharper voice for the song!! Mariah would have been a bad choice,becuase her voice has a very soft yet heavier timbre.I think they should have asked celine dion instead.

    Honestly if Jessica Simpson got this song first instead of Xtina, Jessica would have no trouble reaching that E5! In fact Jessica does PHRASED E5s in her song I Wanna Love You Forever that last for 20 seconds!! Way more than 1 second of Christina's E5 in Reflection!!! So there are other singers who can reach E5 not just Christina...

  • @purpleboykk
    @purpleboykk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is more understandable to put it this way. They were looking for a singer. Young singer probably that was specifically HAS TO BE WHITE and HAS TO HIT THAT NOTE so Christina checked that box at that time since she's with Disney before that so it was easy for her to get that deal. I think that was the case actually. A lot of female singers can reach Eb5 and it's really high actually but I believed they were looking for fresh blood, female, white with big voice

      Filter Paper bringing too much chest voice down could cause strain. Head voice could lighten up and free the voice. That's why mix is important.

    For people sayng that the note is easy to lots of sings, it is NOT, an E5 is common, but NOT in full voice... The majority of singers do it in mix (That Aretha Frankling/Jennifer Hudson metallic sound). In full chest voice like they want not even a opera tenor can do.

    I don't believe she couldn't hit a high Note because when she came out she was always able to hit a high note.
    that's why she was able to make genie in a bottle also that was her signature go to.
    that set her apart from other singers so I don't believe that she already was a good singer before the Mulan soundtrack, but I think that the 2020 version of reflections from the soundtrack didn't sound good at all.
    in fact the original 1998 sounded better and that doesn't shock me usually the original is always better.
