    Those Russian wrestlers didn't start the war, nor could they have prevented it. They surely can't end it... let them wrestle. We want to beat the best.

      Russians are competing, just not specific ones. The ones that aren't, could be competing if not for personal choices. They were warned that they had to be neutral and stay away from sanctioned state-run clubs. The Russians who are competing managed to do it, so why couldn't they? Russians have always acted like they were above the rules put out by UWW or the IOC. These are the consequences to those actions.

      Yes. If you don't betray your country than you will be removed from Olympic competition. (Unless you rare from a NATO country and then you wont be asked to betray your country)
      Let me remind you that all of the reasons that the US went to war with Iraq were completely without basis & manufactured, but not a single US competitor was removed from the 2004 Olympics for supporting the US during the war.

      @@amanrob The bigger your public profile in a place like Russia the less freedom you have. Maybe some of these guys defy the government and a family member gets thrown out a high-rise building. Crazy to ask someone to take that risk over wrestling and make it out to be a personal morals issue

      @@imacarrot6570 If it is so evil and biased then why do they want to compete there at all? I find it funny you say that but the only ones ever caught for corruption in Fila/UWW were all former soviet republics, including Russia.

  • @pghend
    @pghend 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    maybe an explanation why they can not compete? How were the names chosen?

    • @amanrob
      @amanrob 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      They were instructed that they basically had to take neutrality oaths in order to compete and deny all support for Russia's involvement in the Ukraine war. The athletes also had to stay away from specific state run clubs, such as Dynamo Sports Club. Unfortunately several of the athletes were caught showing support or visiting those sanctioned clubs.
      The replacements were chosen based on the qualifiers. For example, you had to place in the top 3 at the last chance qualifier to make the Olympics. Kamal Bey took 4th place, but one of the wrestlers that placed in the top three at the qualifier was removed. That means that he moved up and got a spot in the olympics.

    The funny thing about all this is that if Russia or China was doing in Mexico what the US & NATO have been doing in Ukraine for the last decade then the US would have invaded Mexico 10 years ago. And ALL of their athletes would still be competing. The truth is that there is bias and the truth is that Russians and other Eastern countries really should not take the Olympics seriously.

    Russia cares more about conquest than it does about international respect and communication. The wrestlers should not be allowed in. It makes no sense. These wrestlers represent Russia, not themselves. This is a consequence of their leaders, they can leave russia and represent another country if they want to wrestle.

      As an American who isn’t completely delusional. I don’t know how you can even say that when you have Olympic champs on the Russian team and World champs who have literally beat Americans on the way to those titles. Sidakov, Uguev, Sadulaev all beat Americans multiple times. Russians can and have beat U.S. wrestler. Those would have been 50/50 and in the case of Sidakov 60/40 matchups. It was very competitive between the U.S. and Russia
