  • In this video, we're going to break down all the components that go into a typical trading algorithm by looking at the framework that the vast majority of trading algorithms follow. Furthermore, I am going to show you a platform that allows you to do everything from researching strategies, developing, testing, and hosting algorithms all in one place.

    Great intro. A follow-up python based algorithmic trading from scratch as well as a shared source code repo would be even more appreciated.

    I'm new to coding but it's a new passion of mine. I've been trading stocks and options for a few years now and can easily make 10-20% roi a month consistently. I cant wait to fully dive into this.

    My question is that from the retail discretionary trader's point of view...."How am I going to beat the institutional algos that seemingly are always there to trade against me?".....THIS I'd like some insight as it is the reason I came to video via search, but was a bit irrelevant to my query.

      Thanks for the comment. Scalping strategies bring their own challenges. One of the biggest challenge with scalping is the tight margins since the profits usually are relatively small. Nevertheless, I'd say that it is certainly possible to develop an automated scalping strategy.

    How long do you think does it take to be able to trade with algorithms? I could learn at least 4 hours a day. Multicharts or Python?

    • @TradeOptionsWithMe
      @TradeOptionsWithMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t really give you an exact time. This totally depends on how much you already know and how fast of a learner you are. But before using any live algorithms for your trading, you should feel very comfortable with a programming language like python and the API of the algo trading platform that up you are using. Furthermore, you shouldn’t be a newcomer to the world of trading/finance. Besides that, it depends on how long it takes you to find a good strategy and to implement it.

    • @TradeOptionsWithMe

      Thanks for the comment. If you want to see examples of actual algorithms, you could check out my algorithmic trading playlist. There I have multiple videos where I show you how to code actual trading algorithms and I plan on adding more such videos in the future. Some of them, I have been paper trading since the release of their videos, and they have been performing quite well. But note that the performance over such a short time frame isn’t really indicative of general performance.

    Hi Louis, great bit of knowledge.
    I guess from the accent, you are from Germany? What university teach such knowledge on trading+ coding?
    Are you self learner, or there are study programs teaching all of these?
    Thinking of any suggestions for my kid for path forward 🤔
    Best
    W

    • @TradeOptionsWithMe
      @TradeOptionsWithMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi W,
      Yes I’m from Germany, but I lived in many different countries. Most study programs don’t directly include how to code a trading bot, but programs such as quantitative finance go in that direction. Otherwise, a degree in computer science will give you a stable foundation for quantitative trading since, in my opinion, the finance side is easier to learn.
      I hope this helps.

      Thanks for the question. If you are looking for a broker for discretionary trading, I recommend tastyworks. You can check out my review here: tradeoptionswithme.com/reviews/option-trading-broker-reviews/tastyworks-review/
      If you are looking for a broker for algo trading, the answer depends on which platform you use to run your algorithms. If, for instance, you use QuantConnect, interactive brokers is a great choice of broker that they support.

    which trading platform does this support? Does this work with Robinhood?

    • @TradeOptionsWithMe
      @TradeOptionsWithMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the broker has an open API, you could trade through it algorithmically. However, the most convenient way would be to develop and host your algorithms through an algorithmic trading platform. But then you can only trade with those brokers that are supported by that platform. For a list of algorithmic trading platforms, you could check out this post: tradeoptionswithme.com/best-algo-trading-platforms/
