My condolences on your mother’s passing. I know it’s never easy, but, may she rest in peace. As far as fiber festivals go, in early September I enjoyed the Scottish Yarn Festival. A few days after I came back, I went to the New Jersey festival on Sunday. And, since my 1st grandchild decided to come early, I am now able to go to Rhinebeck. We will have to arrange a meet up! You both showed so many projects! My favorite has to be that scarf. Really special!
I would like to hear about the Scottish yarn festival! Janet & I will look for you at Rhinebeck. Jackie is also going, but with a different group. Congratulations on the first grandchild!
I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing Joy but I'm glad to hear that she had a good life. I found knitting so helpful after my mother died and that is when I started watching podcasts. It really helped fill the void. Your Columella turned out so well. I love all the jewel tones. You must get comments when you wear it to go out. Such a unique pieces. Your Christmas socking is just lovely. For not knitting this summer you sure caught up fast! Best wishes.
P,S, 1. Thanks for the fun tip about the sock cuff club. Even at almost $20 CAD it's a good deal -- and I've struggled to knit colourwork socks that fit, so this might help; 2. Out here we have Fibre Festivals in the spring and the fall. I went to one in Camrose, Alberta in May (The Rose City Fibre Festival) and to another (the Prairie Fibre Festival) in mid-September. There was also one farther south in...August, I think. There are wonderful dyers in Alberta and B.C., and shepherds for sheep and alpaca all around the province.
First, Joy, my condolences on the passing of your mother. Yes, a good, long life -- and a loving one, from what you said -- but I'm sure you miss her, and will hear her voice from time to time. My mother died 20 years ago a few months shy of 88...and that's certainly true for me! RE: your beautiful scarf that has off-white angora as the background: Angora comes from goats as well as rabbits...so I expect each source has a different feel to it. Is your angora from rabbits? Or goats? RE: Sock ribbing: I confess I'm a 2:2 fan -- k2/p2. It's a stretchier rib than 1:1, which is why I like it. Abd how does the BFL wear? I'm not a fan of ultra-soft yarn (e.g., merino, especially high grade, or even BFL) for socks -- unless they're bed socks and don't get much wear. I prefer a sturdier wool (with or without nylon). I don't know about you, but my feet don't care about softness; I reserve fhat for my neck, arms, or torso (as in sweaters). Just a thought. Just something to think about! Good to see you two together again; watching as I knit...
I tend to avoid merino for the same reason, however BFL calls to me and is difficult to find, usually. I do have another scarf made from BFL that is pilling. As far as I know, all angora fiber comes from rabbits. There is an angora goat, however the fiber from it is mohair. And I did learn from this article that people do shear rabbits! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angora_wool
Some beautiful knits there ladies 😊, thankyou for some great company whilst I’m sat knitting my own socks for Christmas 😊
@@Julie-ix7wv thanks! Enjoy your sock knitting 🧶

Thank you for filling us in about fiber fests in your part of Canada. It's always fun to hear about them.
I want to one last March in Dixon, Tennessee and plan to go to one in February in Mississippi. I live in Alabama.
Oh! I've never been to that part of the country. I hope Hurricane Helene wasn't too bad in your area.
