It's very easy to know where you are in Iowa when looking at county highway signs. The first letter indicates where you are in the state. Example with May City that fooled you, is that the letter A tells you you're close to the Minnesota border on an east west road. East west roads start at A and go through J (I is skipped) and north south roads start at K (in the west) and end at Z in the east (skipping O, Q and U). Thus Osceola county is not near the town of Osceola (which is in Clarke County) it's in Northern Iowa (actually NW in this case). Also Bever is pronounced like the animal. Hopefully that would help anyone that wants to try this and not get incredibly frustrated. (Unless you get gravel roads in the middle of nowhere and there are a bunch.) FYI I'm the one that is has the best time.
Wow had no idea about that letter system, that's really useful! I found this website in case anyone else wants to read more: iowahighways.org/highways/countyrd.html
*slaps the roof of Iowa* "You can fit so many Valleys in this bad boy." My great grandparents lived in Iowa so I'd visit at least once a year growing up. One vivid memory I have is when we tried to visit the ice cave in Bixby State Preserve but we got severely lost and ended up driving through an Amish settlement. Ah, the early 2000's before smartphone navigation...
I’m always looking forward to a new episode of this series! Nice work Gavin 💪 In terms of my time in Iowa, my dad is originally from there so I’ve been there a few times, all at a very young age so I don’t remember much. Cool to see you play an Iowa map!
My only Iowan experiences have been in the Driftless Area, visited Dyersville a few times when I was really young, Dubuque in 2021 and Effigy Mounds National Monument & Pikes Peak State Park in 2022. All great places! Iowa is a surprisingly fun map to play. Just memorize the area codes, find a town name, and let your scanning abilities guide you to a solid time.
The May City round was hysterical. Why on earth is there no street view on the main road 😂. I googled it and I don’t know how to explain where it is but it’s very far from Oceola the city. I’ve been to Iowa once. My grandmother was born in Sioux City randomly for some reason. I love the Des Moines state Capitol building. My favorite of the 30 Capitol buildings I’ve been to.
I’ve only spent a night in Des Moines for a quick work trip, but I’d love to go back in the summer to catch an Iowa Cubs game. Also shoutout to Pseudo Sue from Toppling Goliath
Lived in Iowa City for two years. I was *convinced* that's where round 3 was at first instead of Cedar Rapids until you got to the downtown area. Interesting that they look so similar being sister cities with one another.
I've only been one county into Iowa, Osceola County in the northwest corner (I have some distant relatives there, and once went to a family reunion just over the border in Worthington, Minnesota). We only went to Sibley, the Osceola County seat.
Someone hasn't heard of the driftless area. And Iowa isn't that flat, it's the 18th flattest state, and RAGBRAI riders will tell you it's not flat, much less the easiest state to bike across.
My favourite series on this channel. Might do something like this for Canadian provinces! Great video as always
Or even Australian and Mexican state as well
The overpass by the Dewitt / Clinton sign I have gone over many times and thought I was going crazy when I saw it.

May City is a tiny little unincorporated town between Ocheyedan and Hartley in the far NW Corner!

Don’t forget the Villes we can fit a lot of Villes too.
Your voice is perfect for radio. So soothing

My fav series you've done, can't wait for the RI episode!!! 😎😎

My favorite Iowa memory is driving over the I-480 bridge to leave Council Bluffs and enter Omaha
Based
Ah, yes- Omaha. Nebraska’s ONLY city 😂
I grew up in western Iowa in Sioux City. I played rock valley in a basketball tournament too 😂🤙🏼
I played Missouri valley in basketball too 😂

My strongest association with Iowa in the early 2000s was Slipknot's Iowa album.
Iowa broke this poor man at the end 😂😭
Grew up in Iowa- been to Cownie a couple times for soccer tournaments.
Iowa

I lived in Iowa City for 7 years as a kid. I remember being pretty young and thinking Cedar Rapids was a really big city lol
Sirens, helicpoters, cicadas, buses......you never know with CG's videos.......LMAO
10:30 Osceola county is in northwest Iowa
Always enjoy this series - good stuff.
3:01 GGPD guest spot
That was the Iowa State Patrol after discovering CG's opinions on corn. 🌽🚔
I went to Dubuque in 2008 when I was four!
I live in southern MN so I've been to/through Iowa quite a bit. The area along the Mississippi is probably the best.
*landscape as flat as Kansas*
Iowa: It’s a valley 🙂
Iowa is the 18th flattest state, Kansas is the 7th. The few locations you see on here will trick you but Iowa can be surprisingly hilly in many areas.
watching you land in my hometown was insane 😭
nice time! here's what i've seen of Iowa:
💀
I googled it, May city is in the north west, have to zoom in way too far to see it
0:11 [citation needed]
The closest thing Iowa has to a "valley" is a pothole.
I wonder, in a list of states easiest to bike across, where Iowa would rank? I’m guessing 1.
I mean, that's literally the point of RAGBRAI.
Someone hasn't heard of the driftless area.

You already know your in iowa when you see something boring
Y’all were camping by my home town chariton
no corn?😅
