  • Whilst we were streaming today we caught what seemed to be a number of silver balloons released very close to the airport (which looked to be by mistake) less than an hour after that #Gatwick was closed as there was a hunt for a #drone was it connected?

    I saw the video Monday morning. Well done for the footage.
    Radio Sussex at 9.00am said it was a drone, so I contacted them and pointed them to this video.
    I didn't get to hear any other news reports, but hopefully they changed their drone bashing to balloon bashing instead!

  • @kalpat5753
    @kalpat5753 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Unfortunately the media citing incidents like this as possibly or definitely a drone incident is giving those who are hobbyist drone flyers a bad name. If this continues the CAA and DofT will bring in more Draconian rules that will kill off the hobby. Responsible drone flyers are aware of the rules around airports and prisons and with up to date software cannot fly in those restricted areas.

    • @ClanLawrence
      @ClanLawrence ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The idiots disregarding the rules are giving hobbyist drone flyers a bad name. There are many incidents with drones being flown too close to airports, you don't always here about them in the media. These are genuine cases based on drone detection equipment. Up to date software does not prevent flight in FRZs.

      They never claimed anything they made a suggestion. They “believe” drones may have caused it that’s different from them 100% claiming it did. This is true for most media outlets excluding the rubbish daily star because they completely make things up.

    Of course it was the cause, it’s not like Gatwick don’t have form for demonising the drone hobby as it’s easier to do that than to admit they made a mistake. Thank you for posting this clip, I live in the faintest of hope that as as result of this next time there is an aerospace incursion the authorities state that as fact rather than immediately stating as fact there was a drone attack, and I trust all the media outlets that claimed as such, will immediately post retractions and clarifications that it was in face, a bunch of balloons and not a drone.
    Right?

    It's important to properly identify any forms of aerial anomalies first incase others become misinformed as it could unfairly damage the reputation of fit and proper drone operator's whatever the operator's category happens to be whether it's below or above 250g in accordance with the CAA drone operator's code. Everyone within the drone community should know this by now that it is a serious offence not to try and fly a drone near any kind of airport not to mention that of other sensitive area's.
    However on this occasion, thankfully this was clearly not the case regards to drone's as someone(s) has either deliberately or accidentally albeit recklessly released what can only be identified and described as a bunch of silver foiled helium filled party balloons that blew over the runway.
    This is potentially extremely dangerous to all occupants onboard the aircraft if one of those balloons got sucked up on any of the Rolls-Royce jet turbine engines and could easily delay all outbound aircraft's taxi times considerably resulting in increased runway duties being imposed for all operating flight firms affected due to this disruption.
    Although sadly these eventualities do happen on busy International airports which is why the fast acting efforts of the staff and runway personnel are the first to act quickly, effectively and efficiently in ensuring that everything on that runway runs safely and swiftly with as little or no hiccups as possible!

  • @dwilliams6346

    They are very close to restricted airspace aren't they. Just one of those suddenly malfunctions and darts off towards the runway and an engine eats it. Surely after the chaos last time these residents should know better. 🤷‍♂️

    • @testpilotian3188

      They are well within it, the flight restriction zone around Gatwick extends from Sidlow Bridge (near Reigate) down to the other side of Crawley to near Tilgate Park and much longer in the other directions. People simply don’t care, I work a public facing role and there’s been a social shift in attitudes since Covid.
