Thank you so much! Building the channel will probably take time, but the likes and comments (like the one you just gave) are nothing but positive at the moment. All the motivation I need to keep going!
Thank you so much for this incredibly well done breakdown! It was gonna take me ages to get this down by just watching Tommy fly through it. These videos helped so much! Everything from the timestamps to just making something that at first glance seem incredibly challenging to then seem easy once broken down. These have to be some of the best guitar tutorials on youtube and it baffles me that you only have 5k subscribers.
Thanks Walter! All it sometimes takes is for someone to lift the veil, isn't it? No worries on the subs, I only started this year and the number has been growing steadily!
Thank you for putting so much time and effort into compiling this video. I've watched Tommy's insructional videos but he never goes into the details in slow mo so I can never pick it up with my limited guitar and ear skills🙄. I've only been practising the guitar for 60 years so cant expect too much too soon🤣😂. Many thanks again👍
I've put off learning bridge 3 for years because it seemed beyond what I can do. But we can't visit our friends, it's pouring down with rain, so now I guess is the best time to learn it!
Tim, I'm so glad I found your channel as your lessons detailing higher end finger picking has allowed me to play songs I never thought I'd be able to play. Thank you.
Thanks for going in depth - slow & specific. It's very helpful. I'm just starting to learn fingerstyle, but I've been playing guitar for 45 years (as a hobby - on & off).
Tim, hi...I did some agent work for Stephen Bennett, Muriel Anderson and a few shows for Richard Smith, so I have been around a lot of great guitarists. I have been playing for a long time and I learned this song when I was about 18, HOWEVER I learned a few moves watching your lesson, so thanks very much. Everyone plays this tune differently it seems, especially Tommy. You never know what that guy's going to do. I only met Tommy once, but I watch him a lot, especially if I want to feel like crap and feel like using my guitars for wood for the fireplace, lol. Thanks again, you are an excellent player.
Thanks Perry! I'm realistic and realize I will never be at Tommy's (or Stephen, Muriel or Richard's) level, for that to be the case you have to be able to devote your life full-time to playing and that is not something that I see happening for myself. But I'm very happy to be able to recreate these pieces and shed some light on them for other people!
@@TimVanRoy Don't sell yourself short Tim, because you are exceptionally talented. You have to be to play these tunes with such precision, but I agree that people like Tommy, Richard, Stephen, Muriel, pretty much live and breathe the guitar. I don't think I have ever seen Stephen without a guitar in his hand even at the dinner table, lol. You're quite talented. I think of all the players, Richard Smith probably amazes me the most.
It took me two weeks to learn the song note by note, now I can barely paly it with tons of mistakes. It takes courage to learn something challenging like this when life and work keep me so busy, but glad I decided to do it and this will be the best investment of time of my life.
Getting started in this style is extremely challenging, but once everything clicks you will find this one of the most rewarding genres of music out there. Just stick to it and things will come in the end, no matter how long it takes... ... Guitar Boogie is another thing though :-D That tutorial should be done roughly by the end of the year... if I can learn how to play it myself, that is.
I only just found this channel but you teach so much better than most channels on here! The way you slowly build up the parts of the melody makes it so much easier to learn, rather than being overwhelmed by the complexity straight away :)
Heard this song yesterday for the fist time. Immediately decided to learn that tune. So I'm very glad that I have found this great tutorial. The perfect way to approach to the different phrases. Thank you very much for the step-by-step instruction and for the different variations.
Just wrapping this up after a couple of months of study and practice. I devote 15 -30min each to it daily. A fairly difficult song to play because of all of the movement and that bend on the D string. Making that bend takes some practice to get right. Thanks for all the hard work you put into creating this lesson. Would never play this tune correctly without it.
This is a great tutorial, esp learning without a capo (learn the true notes and chords then capo up to fit the key you want). But for those wanting to play Tommy along with this tutorial just download a Chrome extension called Transpose, and set the transpose slider to +2. Many thanks Tim for your great tutorials
Fabulous tutorial, explained 1st class, Kept wondering when it was going to finish, so much in it compared to other stuff, I shall work hard but will get it hopefully. Best regards & thanks.
Hang in there James! It's a matter of things "clicking" and you'll take off. Keep everything relaxed (and make sure your guitar is setup properly so you don't have to apply a "death grip" on those chords)!
Fantastic Tutorial: Wish I had started with Windy & Warm. However, I completed Blue Moon Tutorial #1...I’ve learned what to play but it’s another thing to make it sound fluid; playing what I’ve already learned (no matter how clumsy I may play it) helps me get a better attitude about learning the new bars I’m learning in order to complete a song. Thanks, Tim
Hey great job putting together this tutorial. I myself spent a long time analysing Tommy's various performances of of this piece around a year and a half ago when learning this song. There are a few things that you got “wrong” (i.e. not exactly the way he plays it, at least in the performances I’ve seen) but overall a great overview of the song and a great resource for people looking to learn it.
Hi Julian! I have absolutely no problems with critisism as long as it is done politely (as is the case with your remark)! And I understand what you mean: I learned Windy & Warm from one of Tommy's earliest recordings (in the -gasp- pre TH-cam days), and have always played it in the same manner. I should have checked more recent versions when making this tutorial, since you are not the first one to make this remark. But I think the lesson still holds up well for people taking their first steps in this song!
