Tommy, when you played it in Kentucky, at Woodsongs, you inspired me to pick up the guitar again. Soon after, I went back to college, got my degree and now I teach orchestra. I can't thank you enough for that. You're the man!
Wow! When you said you'd heard Chet play this in 1962, I nearly choked. It was 1962 when I heard Chet play it and fell in love with it, and it was the driving force that led me to learn how to fingerpick a guitar. I was 18, in college, a good pianist, but just tinkering with and learning the guitar. Chet was my idol, and Windy and Warm just grabbed me. I *HAD* to learn how to play it like he did, which meant conquering Chet's version of the "Travis style." I obsessed with it for most of a year, and one morning I woke up and knew, and I grabbed my guitar, and my thumb and fingers suddenly knew how to work together! I'll not ever forget that day that I actually played Windy and Warm "Chet's way" for the first time. This video definitely goes to my favorites.
at the end, when he catches the strings and looks at the camera - a feeling of accomplishment swept over me. i could feel his accomplishments, born out of years of dedicated, hard work and natural talent, in that one look. what an amazing musician he is.

He is the most amazing guitarist I have EVER come across, that includes players like Chet Atkins, Hendrix, SRV, or whoever else you could mention. I am currently learning this. When you start with the first few bars you think wtf is this song this simple? But then to make it groove and slap like Tommy does takes months of doing it over and over and over.
That infectious groove and those exquisite bends make this a great performance. I could go around all day and bob my head to this groove. I’m puzzled by how Tommy manages to keep a steady groove going while doing bends that seems like they have all the time in the world. A masterclass in performing and very inspirational.

Dear Tommy, I'm a 24 year old and I've been playing since about 13. I played my ass off for 4 or 5 years and played a good amount until about 21 but sadly I haven't picked it up as much lately. I kinda been working on my voice a little too, but as of the past month I've been going and listening to the people that inspired me to play and I'm finally picking it back up again. Have to say you and Chet Atkins are my biggest inspirations for fingerstyle (also been listening to Jimi and Randy Rhoads) but your cover of this and House of the Rising Sun are now on my checklist of songs to learn. You make some amazing arrangements and I would be happy being half as good are. Thank you for just being in my life along with everyone else, don't know if music would be the same without people like you and Chet. This song is very sentimental to me. I had an instructional 33-1/3 LP that was called "Play Along With Chet" back the early 70's. Windy and Warm was one of the songs taught on this album along with Nine Pound Hammer. I was amazed that I could fumble through these songs and almost play like Chet. You are awesome Tommy!
