I love this. I have a calling to be a hmong shaman, but was not ready for it. I was guided to learn Shamanic Reiki because it really resonated with me. It has connected me closer to my hmong shaman roots and now using hmong shaman techniques with reiki.

I love this conversation it's layered. Very grateful to hear reiki and shamanism is somehow intertwined. I assumed I had to pick one: working with the medicine wheel or reiki. Beautiful. I'm learning more and more! Blessings.

I would like to write down a paraphrased excerpt from "Living Reiki, Takata's Teachings", page 35, with regards to "shamanism": A widow and a daughter lived on the edge of a sugar cane field. The daughter had grown ill and disturbed in her mind. A kahuna was called in and he determined she needed to be exercised and was possessed. So, he brought two assistants and they began to chant, and dance, and bang drums. Money started to fall from the ceiling where the widow kept her stash of money, the daughter began to scream, and the mother yelled. It was such a commotion that the locals called in the military who came to check on the house and people inside. The Kahuna finished and left with his assistants, while the mother cleaned up the mess that had been made. Mrs. Takata was called in, and with quiet, calm Reiki, over a period of weeks, healed the girl and there was no more need for a shaman.
This is my attitude towards people who do this kind of work. Reiki heals calmy, gracefully and with a certain dignity. I don't see any of those qualities in this thing called "shamanism". Further, while I have no proof of such, and many things may have added to Usui's enlightening experience, I think it's silly to say that Reiki and shamanism are linked, because to me Reiki is unique. It's passed on in an original manner, it's pure in its existence, and it's really nothing less than a miracle. It can be learned by anyone, is everlasting, and heals on all levels. To me, shamanism, is just a primitive form of religion practiced by people who never had influence by larger religions.
To put it another way, if you had a sick relative in the hospital, are you going to call your local shaman to come heal them, or are you going to contact your local Reiki practitioner to help? Pretty easy answer, if you ask me.
