I feel he should have steered a different course. Keep it within the UK. Much smaller, much more manageable and much easier to set up and execute. If possible use mountainbikes to take groups over cycling trails through some of Britain's woods and combine it with camping.
Or even just in Europe like the dragons said. You could have legs in Europe for a premium and it's very doable compared to further a field.

Insurance in different countries, closed roads, unpredictable weather for different countries, people getting lost, accidents, flat tyres and much more that could go wrong like I can only imagine this being a massive headache every trip.
He should have started small, grew in potential and reputation, before aiming so far. It should be a step-by-step process.
This is why business plans are useful. Much better to plan for growth rather than try to do everything at once

Crazy to have been selling a plan for 25 journeys without doing a study for 20 of them, even if he had just stuck to Europe.
Did we watch the same video? He says very clearly that he still needs to study the other 20 journeys **before** he sells them to paying customers.
I hate these types of cyclists, I live fairly rural, they cycle in big gangs of 20 and dont get to the side of the road, they try to over take each other and think they are doing 50mph. I like cyclists on the whole, but doing it for fun and then making me late for work is a nightmare.

Cycling holidays are actually one of the most popular holidays here in the Netherlands. We cycle all throughout Europe as well as our own country. He should have come to pitch in Amsterdam - we've got more bikes than people, here.

I think Peter’s “Petrol head” comment/question was a lot smarter than people are giving credit for. I think he was hoping for/expecting a response that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the target market, by being able to cite statistics around the numbers of people making daily use of their bicycles for trips of more than a couple of kms. The fact that the punter didn’t or couldn’t put Peter’s concerns into context and show them to be misplaced was the red flag that PJ was *really* concerned about. At least that was what I took away from the exchange.
I don't see how you could take that away from him saying "I hate cyclists on the road - there are already too many of them". Nor do I think that you could claim that the target market was people who cycle more than a few km - it will be a tiny fraction of that demographic who would do something like this, just like the vast majority of people who walk are completely disinterested in a mountain hiking holiday.
I wonder what the insurance policy would have to be worth are we only had 6 out of a hundred run of the road by tired truck drivers doing there job.

difference between cycling and skiing is that most people who do multi day trips cycling trips already have the experience. You also need the fitness as well. You just can't take a beginner rider and do 20 miles in a day on a multi-day ride. A skiing trip, you can take anyone from beginner to expert and set out the logistics for them in a bow tie because you're not guiding them all over the mountain like you are cycling.

I know of a few companies who do this sort of thing for mountain bikers. Much more comparable to the skiers vacation he was referencing than a roadie bike holiday. But roadies do have disposable income and I could see something like this being super popular with them. This dude just tried selling them on the big picture instead of trying to start small and work his way towards it.
Yes, he needed to do a better job of explaining where he was at,stick to saying there was traction in financial side and left the big picture as a goal, and in the end that was about what Touker said.

Well. The entire Tour De France was wrecked a few years ago by one person with a cardboard sign.
Cars and trucks and bicycles and motor bikes etc all forced to be on the same road network shows us extreme degeneracy and dangerousness of puppet politicians. Especially after the road deaths and footpath deaths it causes. Everybody that lives near a train track with a pedestrian stairs/bridge above the tracks shows us that it's very easy to have constant flowing traffic from walking people, cycling people, train and car drivers with out any of them having to stop or be killed by a car/vehicle driver. Motor vehicles are protected by steel frames, a car drivers accident will permanently injure or kill a pedestrian or cyclist. The non good idea is forcing people that want to walk and cycle and drive vehicles to use the one road system. Jones sounded like Mr Burns here. 'Pedestrians?, cyclists?, away with them!'

When touker stated you needed snow to ski but could ride a bike in your back yard. I was waiting for a reply of, you can ski in your own country on dry slopes but people still pay a lot to go on ski holidays.

I lost a massive amount of respect for you Peter. If I was him you would have been told off. These Dragons missed out BIG TIME. There's companies here in the USA that do exactly this & they make well over this guys valuation.
I thought the same thing. Here in the US there's tons of bicycle events and charities and marathons and triathlons and sure they slow down traffic and it's minorly inconvenient but they have police and city workers helping redirect traffic flow and keeping cyclists safely out range of normal vehicles. The clogging up of roads is limited to select inner cities and only specific sections of those inner cities, to still allow free movement for vehicles. The majority of the cycling takes place on major highways, freeways and roadways on shoulder lanes or designated bike lanes, or keeping to the right (slow) lane, leaving the left (fast) lane freely accessible for cars and trucks and vans.
Peter makes it sound like there's going be 500+ cyclists invading the streets of Europe wreaking havoc and chaos upon the land and blocking every square inch of road so no vehicle could possibly hope to cross for hours and hours. That's simply ridiculous and unrealistic, and shows how little he actually knows about this industry and how it functions. It's a very profitable business model over here, so it should be profitable there.

@@p.v.7269 Well, from experience driving in the UK when cycling events are on country roads you can be stuck behind a train of 20+ cyclists for miles on end with no possibility of overtaking. It is a major inconvenience and obstruction to the flow of traffic. Roads in Europe are of a fundamentally different design than roads in North America.
Within the UK itself, small potatoes. It fits inside of Victoria in my country. I assume inside one of your states quite easily too.

Technically the company is still active but their website still has 2014 in the footer and their social media is pretty much dead.
According to accounts filed with Company House in Dec 2020, the company had about 75k in assets but over 337k in liabilities giving the company a net worth of negative £259,540. There also has not been any mention of them in any news stories or other media since 2015. So while they seem to still be trying to carry on, the numbers suggest they have dug themselves into a deep hole.
Maybe they can use that deep hole to reach Australia :O!

Netherlands here, a bike holiday is very common and internet is full of routes. All free.....
Personally went on the lf-1 route years ago. Goes through the whole of Europe along the coast and even has signposts....
Very nice but different things though, this offer probably includes hotels, air fares, tech support, maybe even bike rental or transport

Believe it or not, there are some people who revel in the idea of long distance cycling. I did it once from Holland to Denmark, roughly 1000km. Cycling is fun, you can take in the scenery slowly whilst gliding along, you don't necessarily appreciate your surroundings the same way in a car. There is also sense of accomplishment that comes from it.

The last thing any country needs is more cyclists on the roads. Im very much in line with Peter Jones and Jeremy Clarkson on this issue.
I don't cycle and I understand why you would not want roads to be close for a cycling race. But I also understand that people who commute to work on bicycles instead of driving are reducing traffic and making the roads better for us drivers. Bike lanes are good for cars.

According to other commenters, the company is not doing well. There are some places in the world that foreigners should not be hiking or cycling. It is too dangerous.
Man..this is a great idea though. I would like to meet people similar mindset and cycle from all of the way from UK to like Europe and back or something. Not the full trip to Australia but y'know..that kind of trips could be awesome.
