I really just pay attention to water temp / salinity. Always help if the water is clean, but as long as the winds aren’t super high I’ll go out there no matter the direction.
Where are you finding your small shrimp to buy or are you throw netting them? Can you buy small crabs like Peeler and Fiddler crabs? I use Gulp Peeler crabs for casting or bouncing on the bottom but I haven’t used them for Sheepshead.
Depends on the day really. We usually check all the bait shops. You can ask them to look in the tanks or just ask what size shrimp they have. Bridge bait has had some small ones here recently but it’s always changing. Sadly fiddler crabs aren’t sold in the bait shops here so if you want some you’ll have to catch them yourself. I got some from a buddy of mine out there who had a few leftovers! Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Great video. Really like that you explain how the jetty cork is rigged. Do they get many sheepshead at the Galveston piers? I really need to make a trip down there next year. Never caught a sheepshead.
I’ve definitely seen them caught at the piers / rock groins but the technique is a little different. I’ve seen folks use dropper rigs and just straight up fish the bottom rather than the suspended float style.
My favorite spots in Galveston will have to be the Rocks near fort San Jacinto, the rock groins, or the piers. You could also fish the south jetty but it’s very slippery up there so be safe. I’d suggest taking a look at salinity levels in the area before you go out tho. As of right now the salinity is about 10 ppt higher in Freeport over Galveston so I’ve been trying to fish there a little more. Good luck!
Dangerous is really subjective. So long as the waves aren’t completely crashing over the jetty and washing people away it’s fishable. That being said it’s always wise to keep an eye out for rouge swells. Just cause you aren’t gonna get washed always doesn’t mean your gear is safe. We’ve been out in some rough conditions before just gotta be extra careful is all.
I remember the days of RGC watching me slay sheeps while he was struggling. Now he’s teaching a sheepshead masterclass
Hahaha appreciate it brother. I remember those days too 😂
What wind direction do you look for when fishing for jacks and Spanish mackerel?

I use outkast corks all the tim but I tie both to top of cork
Yea I like the swivels just cause it helps my line from getting all tangled. OutKast corks are really nice tho!
