You lay the powerbait about 5ft behind you, making sure it doesn't tangle with anything then just swing it overhead so it doesn't hook you in the ears.
@sockmanB I never use treble. I always use #6 or #8 size single hook. Remember, these trout do not steal your bait, they typically swallow your powerbait.
This is my "fun" trout pole. B&M WPCR12 West Point Crappie 2 Piece 12' Fishing Spinning Rod from Walmart with a cheap Shimano FX 2500 also from Walmart. The line is a 20lb braided line with 8lbs leader.
The regulations on leader length in CA is very specific yet confusing. The intent of the 6’ maximum has to do with promoting ethical fishing practices and to prevent snagging. What? I do not understand those reasons. Even the definition of a ‘leader’ is specific yet confusing. In fly fishing (which is 99% of what i do), the definition is very easy; the fly line and the leader are very easily identifiable and definable. However, in conventional fishing, i can see how you would be able to make a defense that ALL the line in your reel is just one long 150’ leader. In any case, read the regs. As for the 10’ leader in this video, it seems that it’s NOT ILLEGAL for many reasons….so fish on! Nice video and explanations. Thank you!

@@hjkjccdggjhvb Actually, when the lake was at 47-55%, I fished at the same exact spot always. As of now, the spot that I always fish is under the water. That's why I can't fish at that spot. But when I did, actually, I not only caught fish each time but we usually limit most times and there were always 4-5 of us.

@@hjkjccdggjhvb Brother, they are not by the shore, they are in the deep during the summer months. The reason why I'm out there is because I'm targeting 40-60 ft depths. The deeper the better. That's why I'm using 10ft to 12ft poles with 2 (3/4) ounces of egg weights. I'm launching them out as far as I can throw. Based on the charts, it will be about average 50ft depths. @ thank you I guess first cast it won’t come off but if you cast again with wet bait it will come off
@afg3233 From personal experience, you rarely get a chance to reuse the same powerbait. It either bites or it's gone when you reel it back.

FYI, in CA any leader line over 6ft is illegal. Stay out trouble guys.
