    The introduction ''...the simple to use Greenstar Comfort Controls Range'' got me. Simple to use my a**e. It's an absolute nightmare, and I regard myself as a bit of a techy who doesn't struggle with such things normally. But, much praise is due to the presenter in this video for explaining the basic functions in such a precise and well-timed manner. Thank you.

As we enter 2019 and snow is all around again four days in the cold but when I did get through to the helpline they were excellent and helped me reset the ‘ Paring’ Thank You.

    Thanks for this video. I just spent half an hour trying to figure out how to get all days - Mon-Sun. Your video shows that it isn't possible. • @DownhillAllTheWay
      @DownhillAllTheWay 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Worcester, Bosch Group - Thanks for the reply, but I don't think it's possible. After a lot of reading the manual, watching TH-cam, and general messing about, I finally figured it out how to get it all set up. I set times for all weekdays, then separately set times for the weekend days. The boiler doesn't cater for retirees, who are there every day - but that said, once the method is understood, it isn't much extra effort to set the weekend days. However, hitting on the method isn't straightforward. The button operation (which button to press at which time) is certainly not intuitive, and the customer brochure doesn't give much help either. Before you design your next boiler, you should fire the design team responsible for this and get a new bunch in!
      I might just mention that I was setting it up for the lady next door. I thought I'd be up to it, having spent a lifetime in technical support of large computer systems - but when a company is selling to the general public, they have to make the controls suitable for the use of people who have no idea of technology. The lady next door is terrified of this boiler - to the point that she has been living in a freezing house over the new year period, with the boiler switched off.

      I'm retired now, but spent my life incomputer hardware tech support on mainframes, so you'd think I'd be as well placed as anybody to set this up with minimal instruction - but I entirely agree with your feelings. There's absolutely no way to set this boiler up without instructions, and the ones that come in the "manuals" (I use the term advisedly) fall a long way short of the mark.

    • @kbultray
      @kbultray 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Entirely agree, the printed manual is appalling. I have spent a lot of time trying to work out how to reset the clock to GMT after the clocks were changed last week. The video has enlightened me, but how do Worcester expect elderly customers who have lived with analogue control all their lives to even begin to understand ? Also, my old Salus room stat had a blue pilot light to indicate when calling for heat and this feature was very useful, the LCD is a backward step Worcester, and judging by the comments above the wireless control is not proving to be very popular.

    My Comfort 11 Controller does not have Heating "On" and "Off" times. After much faffing, I have realised that my Controller is designed to have the heating on all day, but is set in four "time zones". You set the time on for the first time setting and the temperature for that period. When you want it to turn off, this effectively is the start of "Time setting 2". By selecting the temperature for time setting 2, you can effectively turn it off at that point by choosing a low temperature through to when you want "Time setting 3" to start (e.g. 16:30). By setting a higher temperature again for that period, the heating comes back on again until "Time setting 4" (the time when you want it to go off) by turning the temperature right down, or off. To clarify: 07.30 on at 22 degrees until 09.00, reset temperature to 15 degrees going through to 16.30, reset temperature to 22 degrees to 21.30; reset temperature to 10 degrees to turn off. Nightmare!

    • @christinegrainger6498
      @christinegrainger6498 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nikkicooper9928 Yes, it takes some getting used to, but having got the gist of it, I actually quite like the format. It is nice to know that the heating will come on when it drops to a certain temperature (decided by you), rather than it not come on at all because it is set to "off". It is especially good when you are at home all day and like to keep the house at a comfortable temperature which takes into account the weather outside. Having torn my hair out for days on end because I was used to the "on-off" format, I have to say that I actually prefer it. Just takes some getting used to.

      Thank you so much for this comment, I always have the same format as you and was really struggling to understand how to set the times.
      Out of curiosity can I ask what you have your target temp set at please? How does this feature work?

    • @christinegrainger6498
      @christinegrainger6498 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chelseasanderson3376 Hello Chelsea, thanks for your question. In answer, your target temperature is one that you decide is comfortable for you. Personally, I have set my heating to come on at temperature 20 degrees first thing in the morning, (say 7.30am - 9.30am) (temperature 1) so that the house and bathroom is nice and warm to get up to. Thereafter, if no-one is at home for the day, then turn temperature 2 down to say 15 degrees from 9.30am until half an hour before you get home (say 5.30pm). This is effectively turning the heating to "off"; the heating will only come on if the temperature falls below 15 degrees. Then set temperature 3 (home time) to, say, 20 degrees from 5.30 pm until half an hour or so before bedtime (say 9.30 or 10.00pm) (temperature 3). Thereafter, turn temperature down to say 10 degrees during the night (effectively turning the thermostat off). (10.00pm-07.30am). The temperatures you choose are entirely down to you and what you find comfortable. Of course, if you live in a particularly cold climate, then adjust these temperatures accordingly. Hope this makes sense and good luck.

    Question - I have a 2 rf, why isn't there an option to set an "off" time?? From this video it seems that "auto" mode is similar to "on", with no Off time function my heating is permanently on, and all that happens is the temp setting is altered to lower. So my heating remains on at all times but will constantly cut in and out according to the temp setting. I'm concerned that leaving my heating in auto mode is going to increase my heating bill, and it would be cheaper to just turn it on and off, is this correct?
    Fyi I live in a rental property so have inherited this heating system.

    I don't understand why with the Comfort II RF, you have no ON/OFF times for the heating...you effectively have to have it on from start to finish (albeit at different temperatures through the day). The Comfort I RF has clear ON/OFF periods...why can't I do this with my II RF?!?!?
    All I want to do is set Timer 1 from 05:00 to 06:30, and then off until Timer 2 from 17:00 to 20:00! How can this be done?

      I found this brilliant explanation in you tube comments* . I could not understand the Comfort II but I've got it now. Set the 1st time/temperature at your required temperature, then 2nd time (8.30) at say 10 deg (the boiler will not fire up if your house does not fall below 10 deg! It will stay off till the 3rd time setting. Set the 3rd time (16.30) at your required temperature. Set the 4th time at say 10 deg and again the boiler will not fire up. It will sleep peacefully until 5.30 in the morning. Press the button to ignore the
      5th and 6th settings as shown in the video. Neither my heating engineer nor Worcester Bosch technical department could explain this to me - and the user manual makes no reference to this whatsoever. I could not figure out why the boiler was not "turning off" when I thought it should. Good luck, and you will see - it wont be using any gas during the 10 deg period (of course if the room where your thermostat is gets colder than that (!) you'd have to set a lower temperature - say 5 deg - which is what they recommend if you go on holiday - it just keeps it in frost protection mode. Not necessary to go any lower than that.

      2 years ago
      * Basically this is a 24 hour temperature profile system allowing up to 6 programmable time zones set at given temperatures for that period. There is no on or off setting as such as this will depend on the temperature setting. If you want it off during the day, set the desired temperature to zero. Most working people will want a lower setting overnight, say 16C, then up to 20C when they are getting ready for work, then low or off during the day, say 10C, then back up to 20C for when they return from work until going to bed; hence four temperature time zones. The controller, however, doesn't cater for retired or non working people at home 7 days per week, for this you need to program mon-fri and sat-sun the same. The override feature allows you to jump to the next zone if you arrive early from work for example. The Wave allows you to do this remotely via an app. I guess this system is a set and forget controller with holiday override. Alternatively the lower spec unit just gives three on/off daily settings. Only concern is when the battery dies or if this unit malfunctions. This being the issue with complicated controllers is all types. The Wave needs constant wifi for example and access to an iPhone or iPad.

      Hi Berverley, I wondered the same about the hot water, I thought it would be available 24 hours a day. To change temp of hot water just turn the right hand knob down a number. Ours is set on "e" for economy, but you can go up to 6 or down to 1 or min.

    • @WorcesterBoschHeating

      These boilers have a pre-heat function so (in theory) you will get hot water at your taps faster then just heating on demand. In reality it is mostly a gimmick that just wastes gas and you're probably better off just setting it to "off" where it will act like a conventional "on-demand" combi boiler.

    How do I use the controls that are on the boiler itself (not the unit that the video's about)? In particular, I want to know how to turn off the eco setting. (I'm pouring away a lot of water waiting for hot water to come out of the tap.) There's a set of three buttons on the boiler. One of them is the eco button, but it seems to be linked to the other two. Can I just press the eco button to turn of the eco setting, or will that have knock-on effects? I have a Worcester Comfort II RF.

    • @WorcesterBoschHeating
      @WorcesterBoschHeating  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment. The two controls, boiler and Comfort II RF, work in conjunction with each other. For easier control, press the ECO button on the boiler until it shows either 'Preheat' or 'ECO with a clock symbol', then use the hot water settings on the Comfort II RF to control the preheat, either Off (no preheat), Once/Timed (Preheat follows the programme) or On (Preheat on all the time).
      We will be happy to send an instruction manual to you for your Comfort II RF control, please get in touch with our contact centre on 0330 123 9339 or alternatively send an email to service.mailbox@uk.bosch.com and we will just need to take a few details to send the manual out to you. Thanks. So the Comfort II RF is the programming device, not the boiler. And it seems I can't simply turn the Eco setting on and off at the boiler; I have to program it so that the programmer turns it on and off. Similarly it looks as though I can't adjust the temperature of the heating directly; I have to program the programmer to do that. If I want hot water now or a change in temperature now, I first have to have a plan for the whole day - or the whole week. Have I got that right?

    is it better to have the hot water function on permanently or to set times?

    • @WorcesterBoschHeating
      @WorcesterBoschHeating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sarah, The hot water side of the comfort controls range (when fitted to a combination boiler) is to time the pre-heat function of the boiler. This effectively keeps a small volume of water within the heat exchanger hot. This will ensure that hot water is delivered almost instantly to the opened outlet.
      If you are not using preheat, the boiler will be in ECO mode and the hot water will be heated from cold. A slight delay should be expected before the hot water is at full temperature when the boiler is operating in ECO mode. By selecting ECO mode, less gas will be used as energy is used only on demand.
      Regardless of the way the boiler is used (Preheat or ECO) a combi boiler will work when the tap is opened. Hope this helps, EH

    • @djhatstand7312
      @djhatstand7312 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A thermostat will go on room temp, that’s the idea, if the room temp matches or is above what you have set the heating will stay off, if the temp drops below the heating will turn on.
      The RF1 shows the current room temp on it, to adjust just twist it, it will show the new required temp and flash whilst contacting the boiler, if your going hotter then you will see a little flame icon appear, this means your boiler has received the request and is operating
      Don’t forget all the timer does is turn the boiler on and off according to the times you have set, the thermostat still controls what temperature you require, sounds like you need to make sure you are using the timer function and not the always on setting
