Today 10-22-2024 I just picked up a brand new Sony FX30 at the post office. Prior to receiving the camera I ordered a couple of weeks ago a Smallrig charger that came with two batteries. It sounds like they should be okay. This is my first electronic camera. I still have three 35mm film cameras from the 1980's. Thank you for this video.
From what I've gathered generally 3rd party batteries hold less charge, they don't last as long (in terms of cycles) with the risk of swelling. But they cost 2-3 times less than OEM batteries. The quality control varies a LOT too, some people will have good experience and say it is nearly identical to OEM, but another battery of the same batch may result in swelling after only a year of use or even less. If you are aware of the risks then you can save a lot of money with 3rd party. I like to think of OEM like insurance I guess, cost so much more but more reliable.
That’s a good way of seeing it! Honestly I’ve had my third party batteries for about 3ish years and they’ve worked well still! So knock on wood they stay good 😂
I shoot on Nikon and while I would much rather use Official Nikon Batteries. What I have found is that a lot of the generic batteries function just as well if not better than their branded ones. I will not that not all batteries are created equal so I pay a lot of attention to reviews from verified buyers. Generally speaking you're not going to many issues if any. Some brands might not last nearly as long as a camera's branded batteries in between charges. So far I've had really good luck using 3rd Party batteries. My favorite so far are by Power Extra. I've had them last 12-13 hour long shoots. I live in Arizona and shoot drag races during the spring and summer and those batteries have held up just as long if not longer than my Nikon ones. I'm a multi-media developer for a Diesel Performance shop and so I'm constantly shooting work being done by our techs, the 3rd party batteries have held up and performed. I honestly haven't bought new batteries for my rig going on 4 years now. My opinion is; if you have good branded batteries, use those first and the 3rd party ones in a pinch. Great topic to bring up. New Sub here!
That’s really cool to hear! Glad those third party ones have worked for you! I know some Can be a hit or miss but mine have luckily worked haha and happy to have you here in the community!
I bought what I thought was a genuine battery but when I inserted into my Sony camera it displayed the battery warning message. Thankfully the seller refunded, and even let me keep it but I think I'll only use it when the back ups of my back up batteries have run out and I really need a few more shots.
I've had issues using Magolin batteries. It occasionally causes the camera to lock up. It's only when I'm shooting photos. Haven't had issues when shooting video. I have two different Sony cameras and I've had the same issues with both and it's only with the non-OEM battery.
What batteries do you use for your cameras? Let me know 👇 These are the 3rd party batteries I use: amzn.to/3pMCvk2 And these are the originals: amzn.to/46QKqgX
The only issue I’ve had before was swelling. I had a couple off brand batteries for my 6300 and a couple of them had swelled and almost got stuck in the camera. I probably should’ve been a bit more careful but just something I wanted to mention.
Oh wow! That’s crazy honestly. I haven’t had that happened before on my camera batteries. Only when I had a Samsung phone and that’s why I stopped using them haha
I know this is an old comment but this just happened to me, my off brand battery got stuck in my Sony A7 and I had a mini hard attack. I thankfully was able to get it out but it took me about 10 minutes to do so. I usually have a battery grip on it and this was the first time I took it off in forever so I could have the smaller form factor. I will be really careful with which off brands I buy in the future or may just stick with Sony batteries.
I’m having a problem with the shutter count not resetting on my 3rd party battery which causes my shutter speed to slow down on my camera anything I can do?
my use has been the same with off brands or sony, if you look at the off brand than check the reviews and comments about the brand you are looking at
So damn true!

That’s awesome!! I’m excited for you to use it and create some goodies! Hope you enjoy it 😁
@@EasyTigerCreative Thank you. It will take a little time to get use to the camera.
At least it’ll give you something to just mess around with and have some fun while testing it!
Any suggestions from anyone what brand of third party batteries are available for Godox V1n in the market?
I don’t use Godox so I’m not really sure if I’m of any help on that

Well glad you got a refund though! It’ll always display a warning of the battery when it’s not an original Sony so it’ll be ok usually!

Hmm maybe it’s the brand that it’s the issue. My third party ones haven’t done any of that honestly!

@@Dribin yeah certain brand ones are better than others. I have a different brand now and no issues yet.

3rd Party Batteries today is great, 20 years ago was terrible, buy 3rd party ONLY !!!
Makes a lot sense! My 3rd party batteries have been doing great honestly! Eventually I need to get more!
Do you think that a third party battery could affect the image quality?
I’ve never had an issue so I don’t think so
This video should have been like 2 min
You’re welcome to make it yourself bud. Nobody is stopping you.
