      At first i didnt like it, but it actually lulls the pass rush and he seems to get at least 1 free play a game, and slows down the rush. Reminds me of Aarons cadence a little bit

      He played great in that primetime shootout this week. While it wasn't a playoff game, it was against a good in conference playoff contender. The Seahawks showed up and Dallas put up 41 points to win that game and at least keep themselves in contention for the conference.

    Uh, this isn't the only season when Dak's been 'elite'. He's been elite for most of the seasons that he has played in, even LAST season when all his receivers caused him to get all those INTs. The offense was STILL ranked number 1 with Dak in there INSPITE it being ranked number 30 with Cooper Rush in there and with Dak only having ONE decent receiver, last season.

    • @mariohernandez231

      Yeah but this is definitely his best year without a doubt this year we can say that Dak is putting the cowboys on his back.

      @phene-449 ปีที่แล้ว

      the overall offense has been elite, but individually dak was never elite. he was a very good but this year he's taken another step. the play calling has also improved a lot which certainly helps. to say that dak is an elite qb is still debatable based on his previous years. this is an elite season and he should win mvp but to be considered an elite qb you need to have a body of work over multiple years. people thought matt ryan was elite with his fluke one off year in 2016.

    • @richardstorm4603
      @richardstorm4603 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phene-449 lol, if Jalen Hurts is elite, Dak is SUPER elite. I dare you to compare Dak's first 7 years of stats to Tom "I Got Caught Cheating" Brady's stats. If you do, you'll see that Dak DESTROYS Tom Brady. Before you start blabbing about those Super Bowls, those do not count since they cheated to get those Super Bowls. Dak doesn't need to cheat. If Tom Brady is elite, so is Dak. Look at Warren Moon. He never won one playoff game. Yet, he is in the Hall of Fame, because he was elite whether you believe it or not. Dak will be in the Hall of Fame, too. And there is not a damn thing you can do to stop it. My Tiger Kung Fu...is better than yours...I don't think you're good enough...to avenge your master...

    • @phene-449
      @phene-449 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardstorm4603 i never said jalen hurts was elite. i consider hurts to be more of a really good game manager. i've also never said anything about playoff success. i'm solely talking individual play. dak has never been elite until this season and anyone that's not biased will tell you this. also, comparing the first 7 years of tom brady's stats isn't even fair when the passing game was completely different. the rules changed to make the game easier on quarterbacks and you started to see record breaking seasons starting from 2008-2009. stats are not even relevant in this argument regardless because this is a film thing. as you said, dak threw a lot of picks last year that were on his receivers, but yet you ignore context for any stat that doesn't favor dak. pff is probably the most accurate stat for qb's because it's not just based on numbers without any context.

  • @je7055

    I appreciate the effort, this is a fantastic breakdown and you certainly earned my sub. Football analysis tends to fall into one of two categories: one, the kind that dumbs itself down for its audience to the point of nonsense like "Team X just wanted it more than Team Y" (*cough* Stephen and Skip *cough*). Two, on the other end of the spectrum, analysis that throws out jargon and coach-speak without making an actual point, just because the creator wants to sound smart. It's always refreshing to find content that does neither of those things.
    Having said that, the reflexive Dak haters have already made up their minds. They're blind to reason, and they'll tell you with a straight face that two plus two makes five if it means they can avoid calling Dak elite, regardless of how objective the analysis is. Same thing Romo had to deal with. One of the things I love about Dak, though, is that he shares Romo's complete lack of fucks given for the haters. Hearing the same nonsense from half the Cowboys fanbase is what really pisses me off though.
    I suppose it just comes with having such a huge fanbase, but the amount of Cowboys fans who think Dak, and Romo before him, are (were, in Romo's case) just average or even worse-it's bizarre. You'd think they'd remember the dark age between Aikman and Romo, when Quincy freakin' Carter was, at one point, the closest thing they had to a QB. But clearly they've forgotten entirely what it's like to not have a quality QB.

    • @chrissizemore8705
      @chrissizemore8705 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fanbase drives me crazy. They can see what he's doing. They can see the numbers and the wins. Yet they still won't admit that he's an elite QB. I have a friend who is a Cowboys fan (I am also) and he only texts me when Dak is having a bad game. He won't answer texts and is nowhere to be found when Dak is carving teams up. But I think he succeeds (the same way Romo did) because he doesn't have any fucks to give about what these analysts say. He literally said he feels the same way about them now as he did when they were calling for his job. He knows they'll turn on him again. And he's ready for it. He's so mentally strong. If you want to succeed as the starting QB of the Dallas Cowboys, you have to have that dog in you where you just don't care what anyone else says or thinks.

    I've always been a Dak fan but consistency has been an issue his whole career. He doesn't go on long stretches of great games without some stinkers mixed in.....until this year post-bye. Im worried he's due for a bad game but I have been saying that for weeks now and he keeps playing great. I'd love to be wrong, I want him to get a ring some day. He's a good dude and deserves it, and has taken a ton of hate that really isn't deserved.
    Dak played great against the Eagles yet the media blamed him for the loss and kept bringing up his one mistake (stepping out) despite several bad mistakes by the team that led to 2 overturned touchdowns that would have won the game (Edoga illegal formation and Schoon shallow goal-line route not to mention critical sacks, drops, penalties at crucial last moments). Josh Allen lost to the Eagles, had worse stats than Dak vs the Eagles, threw a pick (Dak did not) and the media said he played a "spectacular game" and "deserved to win". It was insane.

    @6:07. Other QB specific sites/channels always say it is better to slide the protection so that the free runner IS in the quarterback’s face so he can see him coming and know whether he can avoid him, or at least how much time he has. Also, why are you not using “advanced analytics “ numbers, e.g, EPA or DVOA, to discuss his accomplishments, rather than traditional ones? Love your stuff.

    • @BillyStephens

      This is true if the QB is throwing to a “hot” receiver, but not if the QB needs to wait for a route to develop. Dak forced Dugger to take the longest route to him possible, giving him enough time to target Gallup. I don’t use EPA for a couple of different reasons. 1) it’s sometimes hard to find situational epa stats because PFF and SIS don’t report it and 2) because people tend to be more familiar with the basic stats

Get you right up to the finish line and stop. It's like a quarterback curse. They just can't ever get it done. No matter how great they play, they always come up short. If win/loss records are that important, wouldn't his own W/L record say more about him than his opponents' records? It would be a direct measurement vs. an indirect measurement. He's 71-39 in his career and has never had a losing season. If you are what your record says you are, Dak's elite.
      But besides that, we know how to adjust for strength of schedule and how to compare teams with easy schedules against teams with hard schedules. There are plenty of stats and metrics that adjust for strength of schedule, and they all say Dallas's offense is elite. Take SRS, which is literally just strength of schedule adjusted by margin of victory-it has DAL's offense as 9.9 points above average, a close 2nd league-wide behind Miami's 10.2, well ahead of San Fran at #3 with 8.0. After Miami's bed-shitting tonight Dallas will probably be #1. Again that's specifically a SOS-based metric.

    Dak is mid.. how many wide open Go routes did he underthrow by at least 5-10 yards today? I saw at least 3.. happens every damn week lol and again, it seemed like almost all 3 he was bailed out instantly with a Pass Interference call to reset their downs and get great field position where he would then get a lay up touchdown right after.. same old same old.. it’s old. The dirt stays hidden under the bed then gets exposed come playoff time against the 49ers, Eagles etc.. he’s too inconsistent. You can’t be that inconsistent and be considered Elite, Dak is either Mid or good, he is not Elite.. he got outdueled by Geno Smith for majority of this game as well..if you know anything about the QB position it was clear Geno was the better man, just didnt have as strong of a supporting cast around him like Dak.. if Locket catches that seem route there on the Seahawks last drive the Seahawks likely win as well.. lol

      The few mistakes you're reaching for are but a small fraction compared to the elite plays he makes.
      The first seam to Ferguson last week was as good of a throw as you'll see by anyone all year. He led his team to a score on every possession but one because of a drop.
      Geno threw a pick and couldnt get it done twice on 4th down. He didn't "outduel" Dak as if that is even a thing.
      Dak leads the league in TD passes and hasn't thrown a pick in weeks. His passes rating is Top tier. If that's what you call "mid" then your hate and bias has clouded your perception.
      Watch the QB Schools breakdown of Dak week 12 and feel free to name me 15 other QBs who could do that and have better stats, records, and streaks than Dak since he's "mid".
      I posit its your ability to be objective that is "mid". Your control over your emotions is "mid". You're ability to admit when you're wrong is "mid". Maybe even your eyesight is "mid".

      Oh but Josh Allen and Jalen hurts can throw 20+ interceptions a year and still be “elite”

      Recognizing that their WR has position on his CB and throwing the pass for a DPI call, if not a completion, is a trait of good quarterbacks.
      Most throws won't be perfect, even for elite QBs. A solid completion rate on passes of 20+ air yards is ~35%. Last season, Prescott completed 40% of those passes against an expected completion rate of 29.7%. With an 115.2 passer rating on those throws, he ranked as one of the best deep-ball QBs in 2022. This season, he's obviously improved on that. So far in 2023, his Bad Throw percentage is 12.1%, by far a career low (lowest otherwise is 14.7% in 2021). His On-Target rate is 80.0%, also a career best.
      i'm not sure about the claim that Geno didn't have as much help around him as Dak this week. Dallas's typically-stiff defense got carved up and allowed 35 points to a Seahawks offense that averages a mediocre 22.0 points per game, forcing Dak to put up 41 and lead the 4th-quarter comeback. DaRon Bland had the worst game of his career. Seattle's defense allowed over a full yard per play less than Dallas's, 6.3 to 5.2, forcing Dak's offense to work harder on a yards-per-point basis than Seattle. Dallas's D didn't sack Geno a single time, but Dak was sacked four times, to say nothing of the sacks he escaped from and improvised big plays. Defense, advantage Geno. Pass protection, advantage Geno.
      Metcalf was a stud for Geno all day, 6 catches on 8 targets for 134 and 3 TDs. You can point to Lamb's performance for Dallas and say they offset each other, but Lamb wasn't actually all that efficient. He needed 17 targets to get his 12 catches. Besides Lamb, Ferguson was the only Cowboy with 5+ catches. Seattle got 7 from Smith-Njigba and 5 from Lockett. Receivers, advantage Geno. Wouldn't necessarily say that Geno got loads more help than Dak, but it seems pretty hard to make a serious case that Dak got significantly more help than Geno.
      The Stephen A./Skip Bayless narrative is that Dak can't put his team on his back, ball out and carry them to victory when he has to. The problem with that narrative is that it requires ignoring all the games where he does exactly that, like this week. The goalposts get shifted so much that, for some reason, his occasional bad game like San Fran end up being the only ones that "really count" for some reason.
