Jordan Peterson makes some very good points. "structural racism" is very, very broad and is not useful in a debate. Also, racism is the hatred or intolerance of another race. Also, I have never seen them talk about the racism or problems white people might face if they have then they probably haven't talked about it as much. Anyone can experience racism and anyone can be racist.
Absolutely. The problem is once people have experienced racism they lose the ability to be objective with this issue. It's a bit like putting family members of a murdered man on jury and expecting a fair trial
No he doesn't, he simply wishes to shutdown and label countering opinions as "unproductive" because he seeks to maintain the status quo. Structural racism is a good way of understanding why a man underwent a lot of racial abuse from multiple people and the organisation did absolutely nothing. Saying individuals need to be held accountable and punished is not productive when these individuals were reported and the issue was completely ignored. Almost like there was a structural issue with the organisation.

Nihilism seems to be getting the better of a lot of people these days, because it seems like they're too lazy to think in a more complex way about complicated issues. Of course it's far easier to generalise and look at everything in black-and-white but most of the serious problems we face in western society today require a great deal of effort and attention to detail in order to be solved properly. And that's one big reason problems only seem to be compounding as we deal with them.
@@Miguel-q2c1b I don't get from Dr Peterson that he underestimates integrity in the way you describe it. Many of the most competent people are where they are because they wanted to solve a complex problem with an idea of their own. Your example of the high school teacher is too "low-resolution." Are you talking about someone in particular? And what type of high school teacher are you talking about? Also, competence is a trait that is tried and proven. And the most competent people are the ones who move up certain hierarchical structures most efficiently. So is a someone failing to (or making no effort to) move up from mere teacher up in the educational field more competent than the administrators running the school? About the billionaires you mentioned in your example, that too I would say is too low-resolution a way to look at their policies and beliefs. I actually have to ask, do we know enough about their policies to know what they would do in the hypothetical scenario of running for office? To get a fuller picture of things like that, you'd have to go back and scour hours upon hours, past the snippets you see in the media and internet blurbs, of their public speeches; and they have had to expressed all of their policies in detail in order to get that level of understanding - something I think remains to be seen. And to be clear, I am not giving my position as to whether or not they would make good political figures, but I am saying perhaps we don't know enough because they have yet take that leap (for many of the reasons Dr Peterson pointed out).
@@Miguel-q2c1b Peterson makes the mistake of believing that just because someone excels in one field, for example obtains a PhD in psychology, it means they will have the competence of a PhD in any other field such as philosophy, sociology, or geopolitics. It is a common trait in the IDW. That explains why Peterson routinely injects his shockingly ignorant opinions into the conversation of the moment. Peterson's grift is wearing an aura of elite academic proficiency to give himself license to speak in pure word salad in order to convert the millions of lost individuals, confused by his endless word salads, and turn them into devotees who doggedly defend his heinous conservative world view. Makes him quite rich too.
Hm, I would say nihilism wasn’t always THAT big. Maybe it seems that way because I think the common philosophies are Marx’s social philosophy, Sartre’s existentialism and postmodernism. I’ll specifically focus of Sartre’s existentialism because it is very much akin to nihilism. He would say existence proceeds essence. My truth is proceeding any truth society gives me. My truth is comes before any form of universal truth. There is nihilism there, because to Sartre there is no essence. There is no meaning, but then Sartre says so I just make it up. This still seems to me to be a very popular idea. Life is meaningless, so don’t tread on me. There is no essential identity, so I’ll just make up my own. There are no narratives, so I’ll just make up my own. This existentialism is very different from Kierkegaard; keep that in mind.
@@fancynecrosi1848 I believe Jordan isn’t a fan of Foucault and Chomsky, so I don’t think geopolitical narratives interest him. I’m pretty sure his whole project is about religious narratives. I think Jordan is pretty decent in philosophy. He slapped Sam Harris with pragmatism. I think the Zizek debate was weird since I don’t think there is much distinction between Hegel and Marx. The only Marxist intellectual who wasn’t Hegelian was Althusser, but it’s clear he probably didn’t even read Hegel. I don’t think it’s fair that just because you don’t agree with him you start sticking narratives to him that don’t apply. You marked Jordan as a conservative, but I don’t think this is the case. Peterson has said ideology is a parasite on religious thinking. He doesn’t have a political narrative because he has a religious narrative. The religious narratives are always equal. That’s why he talks about order and chaos, heaven and earth, potency and actuality. To be honest, your misreading of Peterson isn’t really about Peterson. Maybe it’s a misreading of Jung or Nietzsche or Kierkegaard(?) I know it’s hard not to be postmodern but it’s important to remember that Jordan really just stands against it and believes the disintegration of Christian narratives will ruin us all. Jordan is pro-choice, pro-drug, pro-redistribution, against capital punishment and dovish. These are liberal positions. Can I also stick conservative views on him? Sure. But Jordan is not a political thinker. Many people do this with philosophers nowadays. But think of Plato’s cave, something Jordan agrees with; there’s a move from the physical to the mathematical to the metaphysical.
I wish someone people would actually listen to jordan about racism. The psychology on racism is so interesting & it's non-hateful tribal human behaviour.
@@guitar0wnz yeah sometimes people are hateful in a racially tribal context, which is racism but people don't see racism when a racial slur is used if the person using it is the same race as the person being insulted. In other words our tribal minds (me included) separate groups into race when it comes to what's acceptable language or behaviour. Someone who is the same race is socially allowed to racial insult someone of the same race so why not other races? Would that not be equal treatment and therefore not racist because the person insults all races including his own race? Its weird. The one that did me in is when white people say "N-Word" instead of the actual word, now in their minds they think saying the word is racist but 1) they are thinking the real word 2) they automatically assume black people are not intelligent enough to understand the context & intentions of why the person uses the word. Example "the guy said the N-word on TV" that is not racist, saying the word like that is not racist because he is not actively calling anyone it, he is only saying the word to explain. Also tribal behaviour is not just race. Football teams, Olympics, towns, countries; humans identify themselves literally with tribalism "I'm british, black, like football & support man United football team, etc etc which then makes it easier for them to relate with people who have similar interests and find a suitable tribe. Tribalism is also where we get competitive nature's, you want you or your tribe to win or do well, its why USA & Russia had the space race, rallying both countries citizens into supporting their country more. It's literally everywhere because tribalism is human nature, if I can love my "tribe" I can love other people's "tribes"? Yes. So why not hate, I can quite easily hate my "tribe" but I can't actively hate another "tribe" because its racist (if its racial tribes). I'm not saying racism is not real, and I'm not saying I think people should be disrespectful to anyone, everyone deserves respect. I just think people need to understand humanity a bit better before they label people like comedians or normal people as being a Nazi because humanity is not as simple as that and equality among races is more complicated then simply loving everyone surely equality is not just loving other tribes but also hating them just as equally. It's weird to explain so hope that makes sense 🤣🤣

I don't think his point was that there's no political corruption or incompetence.
@@Scott1433 Very true.

Did it on purpose to convince the viewer that racism is a huge problem, it isn’t but a fake manufactured problem is easier to fix and they can create the demand for the fixing. The whole racism thing is a problem adopted from America, we’ve conflated our problems with americas. If there is racism, it’s from pissed up dickheads with low IQ’s. Dickheads exist, just like murderers, just like rapists and they will never go away. There’s a way to deal with dickheads, a swift head butt or to be stoic and rise above.
@@mariog1490 damn that was a great comment👏
God I hope Jordan decides to go into politics, he would be amazing at it.
I wish someone people would actually listen to jordan about racism. The psychology on racism is so interesting & it's non-hateful tribal human behaviour.
Surely it's not always non hateful
@@guitar0wnz yeah sometimes people are hateful in a racially tribal context, which is racism but people don't see racism when a racial slur is used if the person using it is the same race as the person being insulted.
In other words our tribal minds (me included) separate groups into race when it comes to what's acceptable language or behaviour. Someone who is the same race is socially allowed to racial insult someone of the same race so why not other races? Would that not be equal treatment and therefore not racist because the person insults all races including his own race? Its weird.
The one that did me in is when white people say "N-Word" instead of the actual word, now in their minds they think saying the word is racist but
1) they are thinking the real word
2) they automatically assume black people are not intelligent enough to understand the context & intentions of why the person uses the word.

Bless his heart, he seems to think that everyone is doing their honest best: no political corruption or incompetence, etc. Always entertaining.
I don't think his point was that there's no political corruption or incompetence. He specifically said institutions are ALL partly corrupted because people in general are partly corrupted, and these institutions are run by people. His point was that the idea that these political institutions act as a bug light for the psychopaths of the world is wrong. Generally the people we elect are many times more competent than your average American, so we are literally electing some of the best people for the job. And our political institutions actually work VERY WELL all things considering, you have NO IDEA how much worse it could be. My native country of Dominican republic, is absolutely overwhelmed with political corruption.
oh dear, the SNP mp talking about money hasn't aged well....
The Scottish politician doesn't look nor sound natural.
I only watched this to listen to the wonderful jordan petersen..Rest of them are like cackling geese.
The virtue signaling is strong in this place.
Bald guys reaction to any utterance from Peterson was worth the watch alone.
Yes, he's a clown
@@rv706 he made JP look pretty foolish with the "racism" remark
@@mrwaltermathews quite the opposite
@@nanayawberko3212 when JP sheepishly says "I did it once" to her saying "less hand wavey" I think bald guys point was made and JP acknowledged his foolishness. Which to be fair is a good trait, now we just need to get him to have some more sympathy before telling us how racism isn't a thing.
@@mrwaltermathews All of them were speaking without a script. He clearly did not mean racism doesn’t exist- but that’s how it looked. They all deserve a bit of slack for speaking or hand waving incorrectly during a live taping
Peterson is a king among children.
Horrible the way the 2 scots virtue signallers interrupted him and spoke to him like sh1t. No wonder we have problems in scotland.
Jordan Peterson having to deal with stupid people is hard to watch.
Jordan Peterson had some good points especially on climate change but he also got embarrassed aswell. He seemed out of depth on certain topics, as he wasn't really familiar with contemporary English issues. Maybe he is still recovering from what he was going through earlier this year, it's good to see him actually engaging after a long time regardless.
Hahaha,.let's speed up climate change is a good point? Sheesh
“As a psychologist, I know that an evil person who targets innocent people is malevolent.”
What an insight.
And a ton of, “But why is that?”
Tbh, they should have brought any British psychologist and they would have known so much more about what is actually happening.
@@chelseafan4eva it's easy for you to talk about climate change now you have had your industrial revolution and are now enjoying the stability that it has brought to your country as well as the Innovations it has brought. If you are so concerned about global warming ask your country to give reperations for all the failed states around the world due to British colonialism so they don't need a industrial Revolution to get their country in order. Otherwise shut up. Furthermore Bill Gates has found a actual legitimate way to fix global warming but all the conspiracy theorists claim he is the spawn of Satan so nothing is being done.

The cricketers experience was unacceptable but it was proven that he himself always presented the same type of behaviour. Specifics and agenda often seem to have a sizeable gap in modern media. Patterson makes that point, call those accountable to recompense but dont white wash institutions, this is rarely and unquestionably proven.
