This is the Solaris Phase 2 of this generation and I LOVE that so much. The fact that kids today are gonna be able to experience all of the fantastical, insanely hype finale style of writing with Frontiers that we used to get back in the day makes me so happy, especially after all of the less-than-stellar writing of the 2010s. THE SHONEN-STYLE THIS SERIES ONCE HAD HAS RETURNED! SONIC THE HEDGEHOG IS BACK!!

I love that from mania to The End here in Frontiers, there's a very small number but slowly growing number of antagonists that are able to bypass and hurt the previously invincible Super Sonic. It's really upping the stakes going forward.
Me too although I noticed it much later when my ring maximum was around a 100(i had no idea how to fight this boss) and exclaimed "what the fuck, how is this possible?"

The fact that it can throw sonic out of BOTH of his super forms in ONE BLOW is wild. Ian Flynn can say all he wants that Solaris is the strongest sonic villain, but it can’t compare to the End
The way my face lit up when it kicked in, and i realised "oh SHIT THEY'VE REMIXED IT FUUCCKK" That put together with how menacing the corrupted supreme titan looks and the impending apocalypse in the background just made this boss feel absolutely massive
As frustrating as this boss was at times, I gotta admit I could certainly feel what I imagine the Ancients felt fighting The End all that time ago. They did an excellent job making this thing feel like a massive threat you have to pull out all the stops to take down. I do wish we got more of an explanation on how The End and Cyber Corruption actually work (making it clearer why The End has to use Supreme instead of just attacking us itself), but as far as giving us a satisfying conclusion, they sure delivered.

And when I heard him starting to sing it, my serotonin went through the roof. (No disrespect to the original vocalist Merry Kirk-Holmes, he's a great singer but I feel like he was straining his voice to hit those high notes and it was perhaps a bit out of his vocal range, whereas for Kellin hitting those notes comes naturally since his voice is in a higher register)

Okay the original base game. While easy, it had puzzles with a base idea of what to do. Giganto just punch it really hard. Wyvern, you need to do parries to reveal the weak spot, knight shield surf and then parry it into him, supreme was destroy his floating adds. It's a kids game I don't expect it to be hard and it was enjoyable with the music and I loved the ending. The dlc ending.... Okay more difficult fine. They listened to fans and made it to how they wanted. The trials were tough. The final boss.... That dang final boss. There's puzzles you need to figure out then there's this. No clues, no hints. One vague one about destroying the cable tether. That's it. That's not a puzzle it's a god damn scavenger hunt. I spent a good hour on it. I knew I had to aim on it. I locked onto it before but it Never Connected. For some reason my moving to aim at it never worked. I did everything, I did the cyloop to get him in the air, nothing. I moved to the side to hit it. Nothing. I looked up needing to do the sidestep. That fight while fun is an insult. "Oh you wanna kill it, here's the one obscure move you learn early on that's only EVER relevant during the map missions to reveal more and (for me) works half the time the way you want and if you don't think of using it in combat when you never had to, I guess you're screwed." The other fights that did use the side step, you had a hint to use it. An idea to go off of. This one.... This one never did and punished you for thinking outside the box. Bosses with a gimmick are fine, but give us a hint at the gimmick!
This update was BLOODY HARD but man, every moment of it was a blast, I hope Sonic Team keeps going forward with the mindset they've had for Frontiers and keeps polishing the formula.

Getting Unleashed / Dark Gaia vibes from everything in this mix and also the final boss with the tentacles and all reminded me of Dark Gaia aswell! Amazing update all around
The dark gaia battle wasn't the first to have an orchestral theme of the original theme. There was Solaris of Sonic 06, Perfect Dark Gaia, Nega Wisp armor of sonic Colors. kinda sucks it took THIS LONG that another orchestral version of the main theme to show up in a boss battle *BUT* at least to me, this boss battle kinda reminds me a LOT of the perfect dark gaia battle. How? the scale the battle bounderies extends beyond the vicinity of the boss.
These new renditions of I'm here deserve to be super sonic 2's theme flat out. they capture the raw power and presence the form carries throughout the fight. especially this one. this theme sounds chilling, like it's striking absolute fear into the end itself, as it has no idea what hell it's just unleashed.
This is when I knew what I was messing with. It's beyond Dark Gaia, Solaris, and the Nega-Wisp Armor. Why? *The main theme was orchestrated for the final boss*

Tomoya Othani really cooked well this time. I was at the edge of rage-quitting after a good 2 hours spent on the master king's trial, but when the final battle started with this banger i was totally refilled with epicness and determination.
When Metal and Symphonic sounds merged with each other, it gives a new MASTERFUL sound experience. This track proves that, and of course, closing the late one with the "Revisited" version, it takes to a heavenly place. Thanks Ohtani and the SEGA sound team.

I was honestly so disappointed the main game not only had an underwhelming final boss fight but I was sad to not see an orchestrated version of I'm Here. I didn't expect them to add it to this update but I'm glad.
The one thing that disappointed me the most about Frontiers's original ending was the lack of the orchestral remix of the main theme. This wasnt something i ever expected to gey, but I'm SO happy we did!
So, this game is the first one to have the main theme completely unchanged AND an orchestral remix playing during the final boss, usually Sonic games do one or the other (and most of what I’m about to list are Super Sonic boss fights) Main theme: Perfect Chaos, Finalhazard, Devil Doom, Alf Layla wa Layla, Supreme Orchestral remix: Solaris, Perfect Dark Gaia, Nega Wisp Armor, Supreme & The End
When I first heard this in the update, I immediately thought The End revived Perfect Dark Gaia and I thought I was gonna fight both The End and Dark Gaia. This is Unleashed flashbacks right there
Considering Light Gaia's ties to the Chaos Emeralds and that they came from space with the Ancients, I wonder if Dark Gaia is somehow tied to The End. That would be really cool especially with Tails saying The End's attack was on par with Dark Gaia. Maybe the Ancients are even the ones who built the Gaia Temples.
@@speedude0164 they aren't since it was said that both gods Light and Dark Gaia have been there since the moment the planet was born, they represent the light and darkness of it, even from the planets beyond it, they are the balance. When Chip uses his powers he does it normally, but when he commanded the gaia temples(which were probably made by the Ancients and that's why they have a connection with the chaos emeralds) he used his necklace, meaning that it probably was a gift from the ancients, maybe they gave it to him in case he needed to use the temples sometime in the future, and since the gaia collosus was destroyed in the core of the planet he didn't need it anymore and gave it to Sonic as a reminder, so probably Sonic has been carrying aroun Ancient techonology since Unleashed

Maybe The End somehow amplified Dark Gaia's power leading the Ancients to construct the Gaia Colossus, but it's possible they just constructed it regardless in case Light Gaia ever needed it like you said and Eggman awakened them at a time where Dark Gaia was further developed than Light Gaia, necessitating the use of the Gaia Colossus so he'd have a chance.

This is good. That being said, I do think Sega's orchestral remix work has gotten a bit rusty. I think the percussion needs to hit harder, and it needs a more dynamic tempo - some parts need to be faster while other parts need to be slower. It also needs more build up and breakdown throughout the song. This sounds good, but it doesn't come close to the level of hype that Super Sonic vs Perfect Dark Gaia had, for example. Another thing I'm noticing is a lack of depth. Past sonic orchestral boss themes have a lot more deep/low sounds, more bass instruments, which played at the same time as higher pitched instruments, resulting in a sound that feels more grand and fills up space better. They also have some quieter parts, and some louder parts, sometimes at the same time, sometimes very clear and other times very subtle. Overall I like this, and I hope they do more of this in future games, and I hope they get even better at making these orchestral remakes. The future is bright.
At first I thought you were exaggerating, but i went through and gave Perfect Dark Gaia a listen again after so many years, and yeah something is off with i’m here, though it’s still great tbh i wouldn’t put it down because of that

I normally use Wild Rush so I figured that part out pretty quickly. I was suprised people didn't know what to do at first.

Tomoya Othani really cooked well this time. I was at the edge of rage-quitting after a good 2 hours spent on the master king's trial, but when the final battle started with this banger i was totally refilled with epicness and determination.
At the beginning of the song I was like: “ Oh the new song is just an orchestra..”

When Metal and Symphonic sounds merged with each other, it gives a new MASTERFUL sound experience. This track proves that, and of course, closing the late one with the "Revisited" version, it takes to a heavenly place. Thanks Ohtani and the SEGA sound team.

I was honestly so disappointed the main game not only had an underwhelming final boss fight but I was sad to not see an orchestrated version of I'm Here. I didn't expect them to add it to this update but I'm glad.

The one thing that disappointed me the most about Frontiers's original ending was the lack of the orchestral remix of the main theme. This wasnt something i ever expected to gey, but I'm SO happy we did!
So, this game is the first one to have the main theme completely unchanged AND an orchestral remix playing during the final boss, usually Sonic games do one or the other (and most of what I’m about to list are Super Sonic boss fights)
Main theme: Perfect Chaos, Finalhazard, Devil Doom, Alf Layla wa Layla, Supreme
Orchestral remix: Solaris, Perfect Dark Gaia, Nega Wisp Armor, Supreme & The End

When I first heard this in the update, I immediately thought The End revived Perfect Dark Gaia and I thought I was gonna fight both The End and Dark Gaia. This is Unleashed flashbacks right there
Considering Light Gaia's ties to the Chaos Emeralds and that they came from space with the Ancients, I wonder if Dark Gaia is somehow tied to The End. That would be really cool especially with Tails saying The End's attack was on par with Dark Gaia. Maybe the Ancients are even the ones who built the Gaia Temples.

@@speedude0164 they aren't since it was said that both gods Light and Dark Gaia have been there since the moment the planet was born, they represent the light and darkness of it, even from the planets beyond it, they are the balance.
When Chip uses his powers he does it normally, but when he commanded the gaia temples(which were probably made by the Ancients and that's why they have a connection with the chaos emeralds) he used his necklace, meaning that it probably was a gift from the ancients, maybe they gave it to him in case he needed to use the temples sometime in the future, and since the gaia collosus was destroyed in the core of the planet he didn't need it anymore and gave it to Sonic as a reminder, so probably Sonic has been carrying aroun Ancient techonology since Unleashed

Maybe The End somehow amplified Dark Gaia's power leading the Ancients to construct the Gaia Colossus, but it's possible they just constructed it regardless in case Light Gaia ever needed it like you said and Eggman awakened them at a time where Dark Gaia was further developed than Light Gaia, necessitating the use of the Gaia Colossus so he'd have a chance.
@@speedude0164 exactly, i think my idea could work really well, maybe when dark gaia aweakened when the ancients arrived they tried to use their technology to fight it, but when they realized that light gaia was supposed to do that they just game him control over their creation so he could use it in times of need

This is good. That being said, I do think Sega's orchestral remix work has gotten a bit rusty. I think the percussion needs to hit harder, and it needs a more dynamic tempo - some parts need to be faster while other parts need to be slower. It also needs more build up and breakdown throughout the song. This sounds good, but it doesn't come close to the level of hype that Super Sonic vs Perfect Dark Gaia had, for example.
Another thing I'm noticing is a lack of depth. Past sonic orchestral boss themes have a lot more deep/low sounds, more bass instruments, which played at the same time as higher pitched instruments, resulting in a sound that feels more grand and fills up space better. They also have some quieter parts, and some louder parts, sometimes at the same time, sometimes very clear and other times very subtle.
Overall I like this, and I hope they do more of this in future games, and I hope they get even better at making these orchestral remakes. The future is bright.
At first I thought you were exaggerating, but i went through and gave Perfect Dark Gaia a listen again after so many years, and yeah something is off with i’m here, though it’s still great tbh i wouldn’t put it down because of that

Why? The End wanted to escape from Cyber Space. Doesn't make sense to have the fight there.
