Thanks to this excellent video the old family cuckoo clock is now going again. I have had no experience of fixing clocks and thought that what I had was almost home made (it seems not). I am so pleased I found this video.
A very informative and patient explanation. Thank you. I will see what I can do on one I will buy needing your sort of treatment. This means I will be back. You are generous with your time and experience. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words, this was my first attempt at doing a video and I must say I learned quite a lot in the process. I've gained so much from others on this platform it was time to give back. It's wonderful we can share methods and ideas and now I likely will learn from you as well :-) Time now for part 3, re-leathering the Cuckoo pipes and putting them back in place.
This is a wonderful video and clearly explains how to deal with some very difficult repairs. Thank you! Do you plan to do a video on how to replace bushings in a wood plate movement?
Thank you and sorry for the delayed response! Yes, that is a great idea for a video. I started a video on re-leathering cuckoo bellows only to be foiled with a poor camera angle grrrr! Time for a redo!
Very good quality on the filming and the instructions ! Nice mood throught the whole thing and your care for details are inspireing and also the way you work the clock. Very good presentation and allot to learn here for a beginner. But this clock work is maybe not the first work normal to start with. I guess there are more simple and basic clocks...for a starter he he ! I think it is very healthy and also a way to expand skillfunlnes and consentration and motorik...and broadening the fantasy...when doing work on cockuu clocks and the likes. I guess it is instrument mechanics maybe. Very cool stuff and something of a challange etc etc. Allot of positive moments in such. Thank you for sharing ! :-)
Thanks for the good review! Yes it may behoove one to begin with a single gong or bell strike first, however after a few goes.. you will find it not so difficult. Cheers
This video is very helpful. I've got a black forest wooden movement on it's way to me. I've got a lot of experience with later cuckoos, but this will be my first wooden movement.
Great Curt! I think you will find them easy to do. Bushing work is a bit different and I plan to cover that on another video hopefully soon. Thanks for the comment!
Back then I brought my cuckoo clock with a wooden plate movement to my watchmaker. He's almost desperate about it. "If I had known how difficult it is to set it correctly, I would not have done it". He wanted 130€ for this. It runs, but the striking mechanism makes loud noises.
Hello Jörg, Most watchmakers have a hard time with Cuckoo's because they don't work on them enough... best to find someone who does. It may be you have worn bushings and / or other parts needing attention. I hope to find time for another video on this subject soon.. I do offer repairs at a reasonable rate however, if you are in Europe that already makes it too expensive with shipping. If you have the interest in giving it a go yourself you can also contact me for assistance. Thanks for watching! jim.clockrepair@gmail
@@TheBlackForestClockShop the watchmakers here who specialize in antique clocks are becoming increasingly rare. And they are also expensive. I paid 450 € for a complete cleaning (and replacement of some pivots) of a table clock from 1939 with Bim-Bam. I have a few Black Forest clocks here, Kuckuck only one. Until now I have done cleaning and repairs myself, there is good literature here.
Mr. Stewart, would you send to me your email? I have your clock but mine has a power wheel attached inside the side opposite the main power wheel for an alarm clock. I would like to send a picture and perhaps you could help me figure out how to get it correctly set up. thank you.
Excellent video! I love Cuckoo/Quail clocks. I will look for a wood plate movement to experiment with.
Keep the videos coming..
I think that you did a great job in restoring this movement. Thanks.
