    Thank you for leaving the cat in the video. It's nice to know I am not the only one that has to deal with an overly zealous helper constantly demanding to be the center of attention. :)

      Glad this was helpful, keep in mind the same applies to Tyvek if you choose that over leather. Good luck with your project.😉

    Great job. I posted this in both of my groups on Face Book also mentioning the wooden plate movement that you repaired and it is easier to find that if they subscribe to your channel.

    thanks for the informative video! What are your thoughts on leather vs. tyvek or some other material?

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jon, Tyvek works great and will last a lifetime or three, I use leather primarily for antique cuckoos which benefit from originality however the cost is greater as you know. Thanks for bringing up the question, perhaps I should have mentioned Tyvek in my video as an alternate material.

    • @jon_byler
      @jon_byler ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not messed around with tyvek much, but I wonder if it conforms and takes a fold as easily as leather does? I've got a bunch of cuckoo clock bellows to repair, so I guess I'll find out!

      @@jon_byler Yes if you have the proper Tyvek it will crease fine. I have used Tyvek from disposable coveralls and it was way too soft and didn't crease well. I order smaller quantities from eBay and it's work just fine.

      @@TheBlackForestClockShop inside a below I found like some white stones do you know what this is?

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@northover5023 Yes this crushed stone was commonly used through much of the 19th century even a bit after the turn of the century, I have forgotten the name of the actual stone, i'll look back and try to find it, a powdery mess it can be though. Some collectors like to keep it for originality but once loose I just replace the weight by using small pieces of lead.

      Как я понял это кожа ягненка и она не должна тянуться, при этом быть тонкой. Спасибо.

      Yes, just not so thin that it becomes hard to work with.

    Is the marbled paper strictly for aesthetic purposes, or does it also seal the pipe somehow too?

  • @bluebonnetjasmine969

    Do you have a video that shows what to do if the weight is pulled all the way up on the left but it won't tick tock or stay running? I noticed on my cuckoo clock.the left weight is pulled completely up to the hole in the bottom of the wood and it does not seem to move down at all. It was like that when I received the clock.

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      So there could be several issues and I'd be guessing at what's wrong. Could be dirty in need of cleaning and oiling or have something else going on. The left side is the time side, if the weight isn't sufficient it could mean the clock needs bushing work or it's not the original weight for the clock. Typically these need at least 2 to 2.5 lbs. weights.

    • @bluebonnetjasmine969
      @bluebonnetjasmine969 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheBlackForestClockShop the weights sat 1500 et. The seller didn't know if it was 1 day or 8 day cuckoo clock. I'm new at cuckoo clocks I don't know how a person could tell if it is 1 day or 8 day.

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluebonnetjasmine969 So a weight driven wood plate is a 30 hr or one day clock. It must be spring driven to be 50 hr and fusee to be 8 day. You can send pics to my email jim.clockrepair@gmail.com for I.D.

    How much does all the leather costs?

    • @TheBlackForestClockShop
      @TheBlackForestClockShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try going on the website for Columbia Organ Leathers the prices are listed there. About $14 + tax & shipping for a 6" x 12" piece, which will do approx. 3 sets of bellows.
