As someone originally from the North East of England, this song has always given me a heartfelt spine tingle. And says it all for me. Be it that I’m a Mackem, where my Rivers are both the Wear & the Tyne, rather than a Geordie. So looking forward to learning this Knophler classic.
Love the modal Drop D songs you’ve done from the likes of CSN etc., Does seem to fit the Air and Hills and Coast in this region, of Northumberland in an area that although officially in England, has a cultural connection, that is more akin, to Scotland in its independent attitude, music & folklore.

    D-000230 D/C-x30030 A7sus4-x02030 G-5x0030
    Double-dropped D tuning - DADGBD from string 6 to string 1
    Capo on fret 1
    Intro: 50, 53, 40 [D] 50, 53, 40 [D]
My heart beats [D] for my streets and alleys
Longs to [D/C] dwell in the border [D] lands
The north-east [D] shore and the river valleys
Fare thee [D/C] well, Northumber- [D] land
Although I'll [G] go where the lady [D] takes me
She'll never tell what's in her [A7sus4] hand
I do not [D] know what fate awaits me
Fare thee [D/C] well, Northumber- [D] land
[D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50 hammer-on 53 bend up
    [D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50, 52, 50, 53, 50, 63 bend up, 60
[D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50 hammer-on 53 bend up
    [D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50, 52, 50, 53, 50, 63 bend up, 60
[D] So drive me down to the central station
I hate to [D/C] leave my River [D] Tyne
    For some damn [D] town that's god-forsaken
Fare thee [D/C] well, Northumber- [D] land
Although I'll [G] go where the lady [D] takes me
She'll never tell what's in her [A7sus4] hand
I do not [D] know what fate awaits me
Fare thee [D/C] well, Northumber- [D] land
So [D] roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50 hammer-on 53 bend up
    [D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50, 52, 50, 53, 50, 63 bend up, 60
[D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50 hammer-on 53 bend up
    [D] Roll on, Geordie boy, roll (riff*) 50, 52, 50, 53, 50, 63 bend up, 60
    * - riff nomenclature - first number is string number, second number is fretted note number

One of my favorite Mark Knopfler. And your strumming is right on, plus that guitar is perfect for this song.

Thanks Earl. Knopfler’s voice in the original is hauntingly beautiful, and very Celtic. My version is more Appalachian/Kentucky. It is a great song.

Lovely as usual, Mike. As a polite aside.....Northumberland is all one word no matter how it sounds in the song 😀👍
