Class video I’ve watched this three times.
I admire the snow tarp camping. That looked Baltic, have a look at the hot tent tipis. Awesome like sitting in the front room. Lol😂.
Plus kit drying overnight & cooking.
Already a fan of beluga lagoon. Great tune
    Happy paddling
    🛶🤙

      Thanks for the kind comments.
Yeh a hot tent would be fab. We do have a bell tent but not yet got a stove.
      It’s on the list lol
      Cheers

Enjoyed that a lot. As a fairly new canoest, and living a stones throw from the Dee, I really should get a trip in it! Liked seeing proper fire management by scraping back the ground first! Nice

Thanks, we always leave no trace apart from a few less sticks and flat ground.
We always dig down for a fire pit and pour buckets of water on once finished then bury back over and re turf. We also dig a communal toilet pit at least 100m away from water deep enough to bury toilet waste properly.
All litter is carried out including what we find of others mess and re cycle it after the trip. I have a dedicated dry bag for litter.
Hope you get out on the Dee soon it’s such a great river.
      Thanks

Great video . Thanks. Planning on doing this in April. Cant wait!. Where did you put in exactly? Also are there any decent canoe/kayak shops in Aberdeen to your knowledge? I will be arriving in Aberdeen on public transit and would like to replace a few bits of kit, mainly new bcd and paddle (Im in a packraft) . You guys seem like you might know. Thanks

Hi thanks, sorry there aren’t any canoe or kayak specific shops in Aberdeen apart for Tiso but it’s a more generic outdoor shop and has some water stuff though as I type this I do recall that there may be a Decathlon?? Worth looking into. I definitely wouldn’t travel without having a paddle secures though.
As for the put in it’s above Braemar just below where the Lui joins.
That would be tricky for you as public transport only goes up to Braemar but to be fair you wouldn’t be missing much apart from the first wee technical rapid that in April may be too bony to paddle anyways.
Good luck planning your trip and if you need any more advice just ask.

@andyjamieson OK thanks for that. All the kit I have at present will do. Just had a wild idea about leaving it all at home and doing some upgrades if it was convenient. I don't have the luxury of visiting any good shops where I am in Gibraltar.
Sounds like you know the area really well , the bus from Aberdeen to Braemar is exactly what I was planning on doing after a direct flight from Malaga. Thanks again and happy 2024.
