Thanks very much for the upload I remember watching the programme and listening to Zonk. It was a sad day when Southern lost its franchise. TVS was different, and yet that too is no more..
I note that while this programme was only broadcast to the EASTERN half of the Southern TV region, the map behind Veronica shows the ENTIRE region, right over to Dorset.
I think the ‘news’ segment was broadcast from Southampton using the scenery from the magazine in the other half of the Southern region called’Day by Day’. Hence the map but they did change the wording to ‘South East News’.
Keith Martin does not know im going to use his laptop to confirm that he was an interviewer for one of these programmes during 1970. He was a local lad too, from Sandwich!
Yes indeed. They had a tiny studio facility in Russell Street which was inherited by TVS in its first year. The South East edition of Coast to Coast moved to Maidstone when the Vinters Park television centre was built.
I grew up in Thanet and loathed the news coverage. As far as the BBC were concerned Kent was London so we got stories about Hertfordshire and Southern told us all about the New Forest. It must have been worst still for those in Southend because they were served by the Bluebell Hill transmitter so got the New Forest too. I'm not that sure that it's that much better now. Kent's a Godawful place to live. The bit of concrete on the way to Europe.

I remember watching this on holiday in Kent and E Sussex. Such TV memories of a younger time. 🥳
The Sunday it all changed in Poland was also the day I was born. This broadcast was the day before I went home from hospital.
You can tell whoever decorated that tree really didn't care anymore...
😂
I never realised that the theme was the same as HTV's Report West. Nice upload :)
And Border TV!
Gosh, it all looks so ancient.

Brilliant guitar player.
thanks very much for this upload!!!! :)
Lookaround from Border Tv Carlisle used this music on its intro & end mostly late 70s & early 80s.
Mike Field mentions that the show will be ‘warm friendly and informative’ before IMMEDIATELY going to a story about violent deaths in Poland

"One of the raiders spoke with a Scotts accent."
Was Southern the first ITV company to provide split news?
Technically it was the Wales and the West region
The opening theme that is!
I remember the tv studio's in Dover this building is knocked down years now and is going to be part of the St James Redevelopment

So when Scene South East finished, Day by Day became pan regional?
@stupidrubbish Thanks very much for the info. I remember it as a child - I was born in 1966 (the You Tube account's my wife's hence the "72" :) )
All been swept away as Thames and LWT, as no one cared.
Did the presenters get jobs with TVS?

This is an appallingly produced programme. Very amateur. Not surprising the company lost its franchise!
