  • Briefly summarizes the history of outdoor lighting and then describes five types of battery-powered lights we pack for our camping trips. These lights are headlights, mini flashlights, hanging dome lights, string lights, and table top lanterns.

Great info as always Frazier! You guys are so organized, and we just use a gas lantern, and a few handheld flashlights. Those, along with a campfire's light, is all we have used for years. Now that so many L.E.D. lights are less expensive and there are many more types and styles to chose from, we may have to upgrade. Looks like Lalo is growing fast. Thanks!

Thanks mrbr for your comment and long -time support. After making this video, I’m thinking about buying an old style hurricane lantern just for nostalgia sake. Yes, those led lights are really impressive. And yes, he is growing up fast and is beginning to act like a moody teenager rather than a sweet little boy. But I love him anyway. Take care.

Great video as always! Awesome information. I use a headlamp almost everyday at work. Rhonda has found some rechargeable ones that only cost about 3 dollars on Amazon. They seem to work well unless they have been on a while and you drop them from 12 feet in the air. The solder joints tend to come undone when that happens but for the price and all of the abuse that I put them through on a daily basis they are pretty good. I really liked the rechargeable rope lights that you have. I will have to look at your Amazon store and see if they are on there. Awesome history as well Frazier.

Thanks Billy. It’s great to hear from you again. Have you posted any videos recently? I haven’t seen them if you have. Hope you are doing well. Regards to Rhonda.

@@moderntentcamping No Sir we haven't. Life just has been busy crazy with us for the last year and a half. Rhonda is doing the Travel Nurse thing and I am still working my 40 plus hour job and taking care of the pups. LOL I doesn't leave a lot of time for recording or editing. Have a trip planed soon to go to Tennessee and are hoping to have some videos of that. Thanks again Frazier and hope you and the family are doing well.

they make nice rechargeable headlamps that are great around the camp and hiking if you are out late. they make great reading light, jog to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and also for cooking.

I have not tried them yet but when I was traveling by motorcycle, I used headlights exclusively. And I know they are a very good all purpose light. Thanks for watching.

Glow sticks are also excellent for marking guy lines so you don't trip on them. I also like to use those outdoor patio solar charged lights you put in the ground for the entrance to the tent and to mark guy lines.

Yes, you are right. Those guylines can be a pain - literally! One of our long-term goals has been to set up our camp so that we are less likely to trip on guylines. Not an easy task but we have made some progress. Thanks for watching and posting this comment. Hope you have many happy camping trips in the future.

White gas Coleman lanterns and stoves , camping have in some ways gotten easier.

@@transmoongoddess I used to use one Coleman propane light but stopped using it after a neighbor complained that my light was too bright and was making it hard for him to enjoy the dark evening sky. Furthermore, we couldn’t bring the propane lamp into our tent. Thanks for watching and posting this note.

    Great video, well done 👏
Loved that you threw In a little history of lighting. All great choices of camp lights. I use a Petzl headlamp, 2 G&E battery powered lanterns (4 or 8 D batteries, that last over 2 years) and a Dewalt work area light that take rechargeable batteries (I bring two 6 amp hr batteries)
I'm doing a giveaway for finally reaching 500 subscribers... the 1st place prize is a Petzl headlamp. Again, great video. Thank you for sharing, hope all is well. Take care Frazier D. Friend... 🇺🇲

Thanks Jason. When I spent many weekends traveling and camping by motorcycle, the petal headlights were the only lights I packed. Your camp lights choices sounds like you have a very comfortable campsite. Best wishes to your family.
